A great pipe organ is just as much about the building it is in as the instrument itself. Put an organ like this or an Allen in a beautiful large church with a sound system to match and it will be pretty good. I would love an instrument of my own but I don’t expect it to sound like one in a church with good acoustics. One small church had have a pipe organ and all they could afford was a 3 rank pipe organ and it didn’t sound much more than a box of whistles. The biggest mistake churches make when the buy these instruments is they cut down on the sound system. Yet if they had invested in a less expensive model and invested in a quality sound system they would have a much better instrument all round.

So I take it you don’t listen to any recordings of any kind because that is not the real thing either. I once tried to play a pipe organ which was barely playable because the church could not afford repairs or tuning and the later gave it away to anyone who would remove it and replaced it with a keyboard. So what do you think was better a dilapidated pipe organ, an affordable computer organ like this or to ditch it altogether. Virtual pipe organs and instruments like are just that a recording of individual pipes stored in computer so when the are played you are hearing a recording of those individual sounds as the notes are pressed. I heard the other day one of the newest and greatest pipe organs of the world . It was not in Europe but here in Taiwan in the new arts center in the southern city of Kaohsiung . No expense was spared as it was made by a famous European builder and it was designed as part of the concert hall with tremendous acoustics to match. Of course it was very controversial because of the cost.

What's the name of the music being played around 1.30-1.50? Sounds lovely. Just bought a Johannus Opus from the eighties to ease practicing, so I can do it at home. I'm well aware it won't sound as nice as these new organs or the organ in the church I play in, but none the less I'm hugely excited. It will make my life much easier.
