DJI MAVIC PRO Extreme Weather Test and Cargo Ship Chase

For the purpose of this test I had the gimbal Dome on and the battery was insulated. Do not attempt flying in such conditions unless you are willing to risk loosing your drone forever. Overall the mavic performed very well with the exception of some gimbal glitches which also occur at normal weather conditions. I removed most of those glitches from the footage but some are still visible. I cons...

    shouldn't be flying over the water in these conditions either anything can happen without notice just a reminder safe flying is the best flying for all

      Barry Graham thanks, I am aware of the risks. It was for the purpose of testing the limits of the drone in the safest way possible for the public. Also some of the best shots I've ever made were over water, so if the weather conditions are ok, it's definitely worth the risk.

    Great vid! The company I work for designed the boom on the Mariner! Do you notice the centre "hot spot" in the video? I've heard of guys complaining about it in RAW photos they've taken but never in video. Maybe it's noticeable because of the pure white backdrop of the snow.

    Can I ask a few things? How many satelites were you connected to in order to get that distance. My mavic gets just over 1km then gets weak signal. No way I can get over 2km. You didn't have any lens jello in those cold conditions. Did you let the drone body adjust to the outside temp before filming? I find when I use it warm from the car in cold temp I get awful lens jello.

    • @SecretFPV
      @SecretFPV Před 7 lety

      Hi digwillhachi, the number of satellites has nothing to with the range you get. Satellites are used for positioning/course hold and for auto return to home. To get good range position the controller antennas correctly and make sure there are no signal obstructions or interference sources near by. To prevent gello I uesd an ND8 filter (on the last flight) which reduces the light entering the lens therefore allowing me to use a lower shutter speed without overexposing the image. As a rule of a thumb the shutter speed should be double of the fps. Example: 4k 30fps = 60 shutter. Hope this helps :)

    Great video! Big balls for flying over a ship like that with all the possible metal interference around. Just curious do you have to get permission from the ship to do this? Not trying to start anything just curious as this would be cool to do and wondered if any rules against it.

    • @SecretFPV
      @SecretFPV Před 7 lety

      Thanks, I did not ask permission. The river is a public domain and I can fly over and film whatever I want as long as it is not a danger to anyone or in violation of anyone's privacy. In Canada you do not need permission to fly as long as the footage is not used commercially. There are some other rules like restricted airspace etc.

    • @ddfwaj
      @ddfwaj Před 7 lety

      Ah OK cool, yeah I will have to look into that here in the US. Really good video though, I have been on these ships before and you really can't appreciate the size until you are on them. I think your video really brought that home especially when you see the captain on the bridge as a size comparison. Crazy to think these ships have sank in bad storms, just doesn't seem possible.

  • @davision_tech

    I think your Mavic is suffering for the gimbal error because the horizon is off in every shot, try gimbal calibration or send it back

    great footage!! Am wondering though why the insulation sticker on the bottom of the battery as that is where I expect most of the much needed heat would come from?

    • @SecretFPV
      @SecretFPV Před 7 lety

      With the big metal heat sink under the drone, the interior must be pretty cold at -12C. I had some insulation left and I thought the battery will only benefit from it.

    DJI go app 4? and if so, at what wind speed do you think you were getting the high wind speed warnings in the app? I've been flying my Mavic as lowas 22degrees F Seem to get the warnings around 20mph wind speed (32km/h). Thanks for the idea on the battery insulation!

    • @SecretFPV
      @SecretFPV Před 7 lety

      as low as 20mph seems right as I haven't had a flight without the wind warning so far. To be honest I don't even pay too much attention to it. Instead I monitor weather forecast and current wind velocity online before flying.
