As an Iranian I am always thankful to Handel for creating such amazing opera about one of our greatest kings (Khashayar Shah). Unfortunately after the brutal rush of Islam in Iran, the glamorous ancient history of Iran went into an everlasting shadow.

After much exploration, I recommend three peerless singers of the aria 'Ombra mai fu' as originally written: Caruso (tenor), Cecilia Bartoli (mezzo soprano), and Andreas Scholl (countertenor). But with any rendition, it's hard not to to experience a shiver of joy!
