HEATSTROKE on the hiking trail! Don't ignore the warning signs!
Watch the North American Half-brained Idiot as she attempts to break herself in her quest for.....something.
Seriously though, altitude sickness is not the only thing to worry about while backpacking in the mountains.
Heatstroke can take you just as fiercely.
After the video cuts, I spent the next 1.5 hours trying to hike just three-quarters of a mile back to the Flats, where I could try to setup camp. The reason it took so long is because I literally kept collapsing on the the trail. I could not keep any water or food in me, vomiting several more times during the hike.
When I finally made it back to the Flats area, I dragged myself to the closest edge of Cascade Creek with shade that I could get to, and proceeded to get sick 2 more times, and over the course of several hours lying still, was finally able to keep water down.
Little sips! Don't gulp it because it WILL come back up.
Eventually, I was able to pitch my tent and hunker down. I couldn't stomach eating anything (which I REALLY needed), but managed to drink more than 2 liters of water that evening, and kept it down.
I spent the rest of that day, and the entirety of the next rehydrating and resting before finally being well enough to make the grueling hike back up on Saturday morning.
I only had 1.5 miles to hike back out. It took me 2 hours due to the utter exhaustion my body was experiencing.
SYMPTOMS OF HEATSTROKE:
The hallmark symptom of heat stroke is a core body temperature above 103° F.
Symptoms include:
☆•Headache
☆•Dizziness and light-headedness
☆•Lack of sweating despite the heat
☆•Red, hot, and dry skin
☆•Muscle weakness or cramps
☆•Nausea and vomiting
☆•Rapid heartbeat, which may be either strong or weak
☆•Rapid, shallow breathing
☆•Confusion, disorientation, or staggering •Seizures
•Unconsciousness
Every symptom with a star next to it is what I experienced.
Please take my idiocy as a lesson.
DON'T IGNORE YOUR BODY!
It may be the last thing you do

    I have watched over a hundred videos of Carlsbad Caverns, and I must say your video is one of the best of them. Beautiful photography, pleasant music and informative. I will point out that the smell at the entrance is bird poop/urine, not bat guano. The bats sleep and do their "business" over a quarter of a mile back in the bat cave section. I'm glad you enjoyed the Caverns. I too was there in Nov 1986, and 2 previous times, and in 2011 ( I wish it was more like 40 times ). What you need to try is to get a reservation for a ranger led tour of Slaughter Canyon Cave, thru the Carlsbad Caverns web site. About 15 miles south of White's City. You hike a 1/4 mile back with a 400 ft gain in altitude to the entance of the cave. Bring hiking boots and a Flashlight and water, and energy snack for when you are on the hiking trail not in the cave. NO lights, no handrails, no paved trails. Just wild caving (although there is no crawling or climbing). You'll see formations which are more beautiful than those in Carlsbad Caverns, especially The Christmas Tree. One formation, The Monarch, is around 90 ft tall. Anyway, if you find the time to take this tour I'm sure you'll love it. Take care.

      What a wonderful compliment! That means quite a lot to me, thank you so very much! Thanks for pointing out my error on the bird poop. Thanks for the tip on Slaughter Canyon Cave! I will certainly add that to my list!

    Were you nervous about it when it followed you through the trees? It was really impressive that it didnt hit any since my understanding is that it didn't have front obstacle avoidance? Impressive!

    • @LifeOfIvyQuinn
      @LifeOfIvyQuinn Před 3 měsíci

      Not at all! You are correct, it does not have any obstacle avoidance to the front, rear, or top. It KINDA does on the bottom. The way it follows, it's almost as if it records the path you make as you move and then follows that same path as best it can. I also tend to guide it with my body when I'm in tighter areas, drawing it past trees before I change direction. I've found that the faster you make it chase you, the greater the chance of actually running it into something. Lol, mine has hit fences, walls, and tree branches. So far, so good!

    • @LifeOfIvyQuinn
      @LifeOfIvyQuinn Před 3 měsíci

      Thank you! This video took 2-3 hours to shoot, and with that comes changing light as the sun rises. I first had to adjust each clip to get white balance/exposure/color/etc. to match as close as possible. I then applied a filter to the entire video, after which I went back into the individual clips for final tweaking of the image. As for manual control, I'm quite used to it. During manual flight, the drone's speed is significantly reduced, from a 15mph top speed (when flying itself) down to about 1.5mph during manually controlled flight, so chances of you losing control of it/running into something or someone are greatly reduced. It's actually pretty relaxed.

    • @LifeOfIvyQuinn
      @LifeOfIvyQuinn Před 4 měsíci

      @ikhsaneddiesaputra5668 That's a difficult question to answer. On one hand, the HOVERAir is EXTREMELY convenient to use. It takes only seconds to turn it on and get flying, and it does what it does very well. On the other hand, a DJI 2SE is only $299 on amazon, it flies farther, it flies faster, it flies higher, and it has better image quality, but it's not as compact or as convenient to fly as the HOVERAir. They both have their pros and cons. It really comes down to what is best for your situation. For me, having both would be the way to go, and is my plan.
