From my experience, any time we use the infrared reflection system of sensor, which is what you have, there will be problems! Not all rolling stock gives a good reflection from the bottom of the cars! That causes a change in the active status of the sensor. A better system is one that BREAKS THE BEAM of the infrared transmitter and receiver. That means mounting the sensors above rail height and at an angle across the track so that the space between cars does cause the beam to be unbroken again. Azatrax has a lot of very good documentation on their website about installing these kinds of interupt sensing. I have used both under track reflection and interupt sensing and the latter is by far more satisfying. Further, I ultimately tried setting up JMRI to use block detection to operate the signals and tortoise motors on the crossings. That was absolutely the best system, but requires JMRI and block detection which is usually quite an additional step for many modelers.

I ordered some crossing signals from WeHonest but have yet to arrive and have ordered their LED's before and generally they are very good to deal with albeit the delivery time is long because of the fact their items come from China. I was giggling about the situation you are facing, not because of the frustrating issue but I'd consider this a real-world copy of crossing gates. How many times have I seen gates go down, up, and back down again on their own.

OK so have you found the source of the problem? Was WeHonest able to help? I am exploring the use of their controllers on my n scale layout and looking for feedback, positive and negative, before I buy.

Learned from this video: in the 'real' world, the outbound loads would have already been switched out & waiting for #40 to arrive. So after grabbing the inbounds from #40, and spotting them in the yard. the outbounds would be placed on #40, and he'd be on his way. Time is money, right? ha ha.
