I can't believe this has zero comments 😭😭😭 This video literally let me hold an actual note within 10 minutes when i spent 2hrs yesterday baffed on how to breath 😅😅😅
Your so beautiful 💖💖💖
Excellent series
gud
Thank you so much
Wow i couldn't hear you drawing a breath. I always pay attention to my breathing between notes or passages. Kind a loud, Not pleasant at all. I need to breath better.
I am a beginner learning to play a 1960s OLDS cornet. OLDS cornet sounds seem more trombone-like sound. Still having difficulty with correct embouchure. I get tired after a little practice and then air sound comes out. Lots of physical on lips, teeth, etc. Does this seem correct? and normal? Thanks, Mr. Angelo
Great question. It's important to slowly build up your chops over time. Our brass instructors typically suggest practicing just 1-2 minutes at first and slowly adding time. Just like weightlifting, it's important to practice regularly to build up the musculature in your mouth. Once you do that, you should have no problem creating a beautiful sound for longer periods of time!
Subtitulos en español por favor. Gracias
Thank you for your feedback. We are working to develop technology that will help provide our content in other languages, and Spanish is at the top of the list :)
Thank you so much this was very helpful!
Where’s the chart?

Excellent description and demonstration of proper breath support!
Thank you!
This has been so helpful!
Not clear where you're holding the ruler by your neck. Covered by your shirt and your hand.
Hold the ruler where the bottom of your neck meets your clavicle bone.
Very nice. Good teacher👍🏼
Bless you ‘-
This is very helpful to me. I thank God there are people out there who have a heart to help others. It would probably be beneficial to watch the whole series. God bless you. 🙂
I'm glad you found this video helpful. Thank you 😊 And yes - watching the whole series will provide a more complete picture about beginning trombone technique.
Why is everyone hating on this? This actually helped me.
We're glad that the lesson helped you :)
Helped me too! Thanks 😊
for real
Thanks I needed this so much
You're welcome :)
I think this video would be ineffective in teaching the embouchure. It just simply doesn't say enough. All I really got was basically a raspberry with tight corners. No offense intended and certainly not saying this guy is a bad teacher, but this video would not really help a beginner.
We appreciate your input. If you're interested in submitting a video with your opinion about how embouchure should be taught, let me know so I can set you up with an Online Learning Project manager.
thanks
You're welcome :)
Thanks, did not know what it was called.
Unfortunately, I never got to choose percussion. I wasn’t given a choice because of my autism and my difficulty to focus in middle school. So I had to go with sax, not that I didn’t enjoy it. But I’m naturally better with drums. I really wish I was able to play percussion.
thanks i needed this info, vs simply buying a celo and then another!
We just want to hear the difference in sound..
This is not a good embochure
If you're interested in submitting a video with your opinion about how embouchure should be taught, I will set you up with an Online Learning Project manager.
This is terrible embouchure advice, don't do it.
Why? Jerome is a highly accomplished trombone performer and educator, so unless you can elaborate on why his embouchure lesson is terrible, I suggest others do not pay attention to this comment. You can view a short list of Jerome's experience here: lessonsinyourhome.net/teacher/jerome-smith/
@@practicingmusician What has Jerome's CV got to do with his knowledge of embouchure? With the exception of "firm corners," every single other piece of advice in this video will set a beginner back by years; Jerome's demonstration of a functioning embouchure is nothing more than a "raspberry," which is not how humans play a brass instrument. No mention of the massive role the lower lip plays when setting an embouchure, either.
@@explodingsausage6576 Jerome is clearly qualified to teach trombone. If you're interested in submitting a video with your opinion about how embouchure should be taught, I will set you up with an Online Learning Project manager.
@@practicingmusician how do you expect someone to learn how to create an embochure by having firm corners
@@munchanitoThis video on embouchure is one in a series on making a sound. The next is articulation, then making a sound. They will play one after another, so feel free to watch the rest. If you press "Show more" in the description, you will see the 13 video playlist that this Embouchure lesson is in. If you're still having trouble, let us know.
Thank u I'm a newbie and rhis helped
Wow man thanks for this lesson! Im currently trying to learn the glockenspiel and this video really helped! thank you again!!!
You're welcome! I'm glad that it helped. Check out www.practicingmusician.com for a completely free glockenspiel curriculum for K-12 music programs. -Jake
I should say, always get the student bell/glock set (the cheaper $200-$300) first. Yamahas, for example, was designed to take a bit more of a beating and Yamaha typically has a full bell percussion kit (including travel backpack) for around $250. If you decide to try for an orchestral or drum corps career, later on, go for a professional glock set. As a former auxiliary member of a drum corps, I can tell you, the bells are fun, but they are heavy to transport (my only con for playing the instrument). I'd really only think about upgrading from a beginner glock when you start to use 4 mallets (expert) and like the more challenging 4-mallet (aka cord) playstyle. Some music programs in grade schools also have partnerships with music instrument companies/stores that have special payment plan options too - though I was not given the option to choose the glock in middle school (else I would have picked it then, rather than high school). Also, having a student bell set of your own, allows you to place note labels on the keys (though many band teachers see that as cheating and will prohibit it). If you have no other type of musical instrument background, using sticker note labels is fine to use on your personal set, until you get more confident of the note locations. But you really should memorize your scales and key locations by the time you move to intermediate level (high school band/orchestra). For those looking to get into this instrument, I'd suggest knowing basic piano/keyboard cord placements first - so that you can navigate the keys on the glock more easily. This is an instrument meant for a more advanced student of concert/marching band music, so having basic piano and/or bass drum mallet rudiment skills will make it much easier for you to master this instrument.
Too bad I found this a week before an intense gig… have to play double time swing and don’t have the chops for it ;-;
ive watched this like 25 times for presentation on the viola😭 your voice is so calming tho, thank you sm

Britains' top trumpet player Kenny Baker used a "smile" embouchure combined with a very wide rim mouthpiece. It works for some people. m.czcams.com/video/k_GY-2T_eQ8/video.html
Vic Firth are 22 bucks! What is an alternative to get a warm quiet sound?
Thanks
It's not back pressure , its resistance.
Ty very much for these instructions, i just got a bass at my school and idk how to open up the case, so ty for the intructions!
