So yes, scrubs brought me here but my faith is what makes this song hit me so hard. I'm a quadriplegic disabled athlete that lost literally half of his family in one day. I have suicidal thoughts on occasion and this song reminds me of why I am here.

It never mattered to me what the original meaning of a song actually was. The beauty of music is that it can have millions of different meanings to different people. I woke up to this song in a ski lodge overlooking a mountain lake with the love of my life. No words spoken, I just held her in my arms until it faded out. And though she's passed since then, hearing this doesn't fill me with grief, but for the briefest moment I'm with her again. Though this means nothing to me in a religious sense as I am an agnostic, the love certainly gets through.

Obviously you're not a Christian and that's fine. The whole purpose of this song is to worship Jesus Christ, which is a love song in of itself. By omitting the name of Jesus would defeat the whole purpose of the song. If you don't like it, there's plenty of good secular love songs.
