I wish things were getting better. Thank you so much for the support all the same.
Sorry to ask for help again but our car broke down and is going to need a few thousand dollars to fix and our credit cards are nearly maxed out. Dad is trying to get work but he is so overwhelmed that he is having memory problems and can't seem to even get an interview. I am trying to get to the point where I can get a work from home job but I am so sick from stress that I keep passing out or being stuck in bed for days. We are trying to get enough money together to at least keep paying rent and afford groceries.
If you could share this with friends or family it would be a huge relief. Even if we could get a few hundred dollars it would help a lot.

    An interesting twist on this was in the 80s cartoon "Inhumanoids" where by the only way to contain the most powerful of the monsters was for his jailers to literally fly circles around him for all time. This effectively meant that his jailers had to abandon their own freedom in order to keep the evil contained.

    Ah. This is Madara vs Shinobi Alliance. And Madara vs 5 Kage. I believe the answer to the conservation of ninjitsu problem is teamwork! Eventually you reach a number where eyes start to glaze over based on the scale of combinations or team-ups. If you bring 7 or 8 members of a team in, then the audience (and writer) literally cannot keep track of them all, and some of the teammates will either be taken out, or vanish from frame like in Avengers Endgame when Dr Strange got relegated to holding up some water. From my general observations, 1 or 3 or 5 is basically the same ballpark. So the question you really need to ask is “do I put more or less than 10 combatants on the same field?” Two teams of 5 clashing is going to necessitate that abilities become much more simple to compensate for scale. Or else require a scaled amount of time to digest every aspect of the abilities on display and their interactions.

    The George Lucas concept is really interesting actually! That's a new perspective I never thought of before. I'm going to try that with my art! Making a piece now and reiterating it later but with a more expanded world view. I feel like that it won't even be a redo at that point, but something more/new that's simply using the old piece as a base/starting point!

    • @TheArtfulNarrator
      @TheArtfulNarrator Před 2 lety

      That is an good point. I originally was looking at the idea of "George Lucasing" as a state of being overly dedicated to perfecting ones existing projects rather then accepting the existence of flaws and instead using ones time to create new things. But if one were to not just go back and re-release the original project with higher production values, but instead take a second pass at the idea behind the project with a new perspective, then the outcome would indeed most likely be very different and worth while. Perhaps I can ease up on my self imposed ban on never taking a second pass at a trope that I have already covered. If nothing else it will make it easier to make more low production quality videos during times like this where my mental, physical, and digital resources are not up to the task of making a super polished video. There is one fanfic written by a professional author Seth Dickenson called "Mission of Honor Retold" that nailed balancing the epic scale of interstellar conflict with the personal and philosophical conflicts and themes. He took the base conflict that transpired between the Solarian League and the Star Empire of Manticore and made both sides and their characters have nuanced, plausible, understandable and sympathetic motives and beliefs that drive them into conflict as events begin to spiral out of control. And with the Solarian's being actually very threatening in this retelling, (having shown themselves more than cannon-fodder like in canon, having killed a number of characters) that alone adds a sense of emotion and tension the later Honorverse books lacked. And when the surprise Mesan orbital relativistic attacks on Manticore and Grayson occur, the details and description of the raw power of the physics and geopolitical thought behind the attacks, combined with character POV's of witnesses and survivors lend it a horror like quality. (he did the research and math behind the destructive physics and that immersion really helps) Every characters decisions and actions and reactions affects and drives the plot, which combined with brilliantly woven in themes and concepts of international relations and power politics reminiscent of current international struggles gives it a verisimilitude that makes the epic and grand, astonishingly relatable. We see both the big picture affects reflected in the characters and can also read and sense how serious things are. An excellent video that describes something I have noted for a while now. Having also completed Halo Infinite, I must admit to being tired of lone hero faces down big, unimaginable danger of epic proportions. Yes I should not expect what I wrote about MoH Retold in a power fantasy FPS game, but from what I have read and seen else where, such big epics get old unless they are done well.

    I remember trying to explain to someone the problem of understanding the social psychology of people regarding the world and the internet. The short of it is, "People are stupid!" The problem stems from not understanding scale. So I attempted to elucidate the scale issue. Home - for a very large part of your life, this is the entirety of the world. This is the summation of our comprehension. Right and wrong only matters in-so-much as your actions don't offend the gawds reigning from on high, their names be mom and dad. Neighborhood - this is not necessarily just your neighbors; the grocery store, the school, the church, etc can be included. These sectors have been pulled into your world for some reason or other, it doesn't matter, these are now things that you comprehend as existing. Town - for the vast majority of your life, this is the world, all of it. Beyond your town are places you visit for some odd reason, they kind of exist, but you have to think on it for a bit. Your country - it's part of your town... you think... but it's out there... somewhere. You're patriotic in that your country's name is on your money, so if you have to take sides, that's the side you choose. The world - it's in a laptop... in your home... and you can dictate to it your demonstrably objective morals and truth, and you can turn it off at night. People are stupid!

I started out only trying to write an introductory story to my fantasy world, but I kept needing to stop to plot out the backstory for the locations the protagonists visited, the lore and culture for the people and nations they visited, and the history of the godlike beings whose designs they meddled in. Cut to 15 years later and I still have not finished the first book because in that time I have written the lore and politics for 9 mortal civilizations, created personality profiles for a handful of gods a few dozen mythical heroes villains and leaders, mapped out the general outline of a few thousand years of history for the fantasy world, and dabbled in an interconnected history of an adjoining dimension with its own politics gods and villains. All because I keep stopping my current attempts to write a full novel every time I encounter the question, “Hmm I wonder what (insert here’s) backstory is?” It is both a problem and a great boon to writing a story with a setting that feels real.

    A rude awakening I got when I self-published my first book was the limitations of ebooks. They don't allow nearly the same freedom with formatting that print books do. As much as I love what Pratchett did in Jingo, it simply isn't replicable in an ebook outside of dry and static PDF documents. I wouldn't recommend copying Jingo unless you never plan to publish an ebook version.

    • @TheArtfulNarrator

    • @MapletreePaper
      @MapletreePaper Před 2 lety

      @@TheArtfulNarrator I hope so too, but at the same time, giving the author more freedom will decrease readers' freedom. While I can't choose what font will appear, it does allow readers to pick whatever font they prefer, which is also important. As far as I can tell, this reader freedom is baked into the .EPUB and .KINDLE formats, so until we get a new standard nothing will change. It's worth noting that the .EPUB format does allow the author to embed a font, but that font must be used for the entire body of text and the reader is still free to choose another font instead. For my book, I was forced to publish the ebook as a "print replica" on Amazon. It's essentially a PDF and incompatible with virtually all ebook readers. The vast majority of ebook fans read on a Kindle, so that's a huge drawback.

      Thank you so much! I am happy that my video was able to offer an insightful perspective. Also the ASMR complement really makes me happy, I am a huge viewer of ASMR and definitely have tossed around the idea of one day making an ASRM secondary channel.

      I am genuinely curious, why did you make this? Given diabetes was essentially a death sentence for most of history this perplexes me.

      @@EmperorZelos This is an excellent comment. Honestly that was my attitude for a long time. I thought how can I even begin to have a character in one of my fantasy stories who is a type one diabetic when there were none of necessary tools around in that era to enable them to survive, surely it would stretch the willing suspension of disbelief to even try. But I have come to realize that while nothing is truly new in storytelling, there are perspectives that have been overlooked and whose inclusion in stories would offer new variations on existing plots and tropes. Fantasy settings ignore historical fact all the time, or create work arounds to allow interesting plots to take place, so instead of trying to figure out how to justify air ships or fire arms in a medieval era fantasy world, why not give some serious time and thought to solving the problem of how to bring a type 1 diabetic into my fantasy setting now? Rather then going with my original plan of waiting to include such a character in a future story set in a more modern time. By added this much needed diversity I could give people like me a chance to see themselves as more then just genetically defective or ill fated, by showing that heroism is not restricted to the hale and hearty but instead resides in all of our hearts. Truly if I had had the privilege of reading such a story with such a rare protagonist when I was 13, I would have grown up with a lot less shame and great deal more pride in myself and belief in my abilities. Its too late to go back and help my younger diabetic self, but if I could offer such a gift to another 13 year old with type 1 diabetes, then that would be a transcendent experience.

      @@TheArtfulNarrator The last part there is a perplexing point of view for me. When I grew up, having autism and still do :), I never felt that need to have a protagonist with it nor ever wished for it. Despite me being bullied (albeit the bullies only knew I was weird not that I had asperger!) I always viewed any protag as just equally me as any other and they never had to have anything in common with me.

    Life has been busy on my end so I have rather slowly been going through your videos, they can be a bit rambly but they are informative. My heart and sympathies go out for you, such stories are sadly all too common these days. I hope things turn around in good time.

      Thank you so much for the constant and amazing support, it means the world. It was wonderful getting to hang out in my impromptu livestream. I apologize for being so bad at replying lately, I want to get back to doing better since getting to connect with people is one of the coolest things about YouTubing.

    Wow! Sorry things have been so horrible for you. I get part of it. After my fiance died I ended up homeless for three months. I was sleeping in the garage of a empty house where I had been working on the property so I had the garage door code but did not have keys to the house.
