Probably the new reference recording of this work. Before I used to love Evgeni Koroliov's version (Gyorgy Ligeti's "desert island recording"), but yours is even superior. I haven't compared the two versions in detail in every fugue, but so far, in the CP in stile francese, this version is much sharper than Koriolov's. And in CP 14, I find your playing of the opening more meditative and more fluid in the first theme.

how can Gershwin become Rachmaninoff? Stick to songwriting dude. But well played piano. Prefer Messiaen no 15 though

  • @AllThisOverASliceOfGabagool

Your Goldberg variation's are like a best friend to me. I know that Glenn Gould is seen as the GOAT of this piece, but I prefer your interpretation over every other one I've heard.

Here I feel that I can appreciate the rhythms, cadence, and phrasing. Much more parlando than many other performances I’ve heard which somehow feel rushed. Beautiful.

I JUST HEARD THIS AGAIN ON KNPR, 89.1 FM RADIO IN LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, USA AT AROUND 5:15 A.M. IT IS REGULARLY FEATURED AS A FILL-IN PIECE BETWEEN LARGER WORKS. OBVIOUSLY SOMEONE CONTROLLING THE PROGRAMMING BROADCASTING CHOICES AT THIS RADIO STATION LOVES YOUR RECORDING, AS DARESAY DO I.😊 I GOOGLED FOR THIS ON THE INTERNET "SEARCH A SONG" FEATURE BY HOLDING MY SMARTPHONE NEAR THE SPEAKER SYSTEM, AND WITHIN A SECOND OR TWO THE INFORMATION AND PHOTO OF YOU APPEARED ON THE SCREEN OF YOUR "SCARLATTI: KEYBOARD SONATAS." THIS PARTICULAR SONATA POSSESSES SUCH A ROLLICKING, CLEVER, RATHER "JAZZY" SPIRIT AND RYTHM, SUCH A REFRESHING DEPARTURE FROM MANY OF THE RATHER STAID, STARCHY, REPETITIVE WORKS OF MANY OF THE COMPOSERS BEFORE AND DURING SCARLATTI'S ERA. HOW THE TECHNOLOGY OF ALGORITHMS, ETC., SO QUICKLY GRABS A TUNE FROM THE UNTOLD MILLIONS OF FILES OF RECORDINGS, OF ALL GENRES OF MUSIC, FASCINATES ME. I HOPE THIS COMMENT COMPENSATES YOU FOR HAVING TO WAIT FOR OVER SEVEN YEARS BEFORE SOMEONE LEFT ONE. I TURNED AGE 78 TODAY. THIS WAS MY "BIRTHDAY PRESENT."😊 I SHALL AVIDLY BE RECOMMENDING THIS SCINTILLATING WORK/PERFORMANCE AND BE LISTENING TO MORE OF YOUR ELITE RECORDINGS.😊 MILTON MOORE 🌠Las Vegas, Nv.🌠

It's amazing how different the Aria sounds after going through all the variations, even though it is the same piece of music as at the start. Your playing inspires me, even though I am not a good pianist 🙂

One of Bach's fugues that when you first hear it, you go "WTH!". But then you listen to it again, and it's "hmmmmm". Then again, and it's "amazing".

It is a pity that more people have not seen this page! Your interpretation of the Goldberg Variations is exquisite, and you do not belt through it like most pianists tend to (Myself included!) I found you because a pal told me that you were performing at my Alma Mater, St Andrews University. I would love to get to that concert, but I live 800 miles away so I will miss it. Good luck with the concert and thank you for some of the most sensitive interpretations of Bach I have come across.

I studied composition with Hugh Wood at Morley College in the early 70s. Melanie Daiken had shown Hugh some of my music and Hugh old Melanie that he thought I was talented and should have lessons with him. Unfortunately, I only had a handful of lessons with Hugh which is sad.

This is a brilliant recording better than that conducted by the composer himself albeit with the same orchestra on Decca. Early work which deserves to be better known with its very flashly ending!

I am melting while listening to this fugue. It touches me deep in my sould. I am spending full time to learn this particular one, first on the harpsichord and then on organ. I know every note, every nuance of this work. It leaves me in awe.

  • @OldPannonian

Lovely, gentle playing. With soul. At this time I am in the process of learning Contrapunctus 13, on of the mirror fugues, both on organ and on harpsichord. What an awesome journey into the spirit of J.S. Bach!

Dreadful. Erroll's Bounce without any bounce, and poorly transcribed to boot. Listen to Barron Ryan's dead-on transcription, or Louis Mazetier's version, which isn't a note-for-note cover per se, but really swings.
