    Great to see how you are getting settled in with the Polycrub and the variety of things you are growing. I got to the construction stage of putting the 2nd sheet (the toughest one) on mine - I'm saving that for a non-windy day - but up in the NE it's not that common! I wonder what temperatures you are getting inside the Polycrub?

    • @polycrubdiaries8969
      @polycrubdiaries8969 Před 2 lety

      Thanks for commenting. Yes i do remember the 2nd sheet being really tricky and requiring a lot of patience to get seated in the H section. If it helps we used a spray bottle of dilute fairy liquid and some plastic car trim removal tools to get it slid in and seated properly. Hope you get a non-windy day soon. On a sunny day with no wind it's easy to reach 30 degrees C even with all of the windows and doors open. On an overcast windy day it will easily reach 25 degrees C with 1 window open. It heats up very quickly and easily even on cloudy days. The watermate pro watering system records the temperature every 30 mins - so when I get a chance I will include a screen grab of the temp graph in one of my vlogs.

    • @psisky
      @psisky Před 2 lety

      Can I give you a tip for getting the 2nd sheet on? Don't gouge that plastic 'H' beam with knives and what-not to open it when trying to push your sheet in. Fairy liquid isn't needed either. Get 2 people to hold your sheet tight in place (opposite sides of crub) and right against the opening of the 'H' beam. Then a third person uses a plastic spatula from the kitchen, starting at one end of the sheet, gently slide that into and along the opening while the other two move the sheet into place as you go. It's a 1cm movement. We learned that with our last 2 sheets. First ones were a nightmare, the spatula made it easy.

      @@polycrubdiaries8969 @psisky Thank you for the tips - I have noted them in readiness for the big day! Good to know how easily the Polycrub warms up. Thank you.

    • @beejud8562
      @beejud8562 Před 2 lety

      My advice is much the same. We thought we would never get the second sheet on but in the end made up one of the forked clamps they talk about in the instruction manual and you can see in one of the photographs. That holds the panel in place while you ease in the edge using a plastic spatula or cake slice and you just work your way up over the rest of the sheet. The remaining sheets are easier but the clamps helped there too. Good luck. My polycrub is still not quite finished at the gable ends but I’m loving it already and so are the tomatoes.

  • @Adam-Minka-Dink
    @Adam-Minka-Dink Před 2 lety

    Thanks for the comprehensive instructions and demo. I'm considering buying this system myself. Is it possible to optimise the water volume at the drippers? I plan to have zones of different plants such as tomatoes, aubergines, melons, peppers, chilli peppers etc and each may require a different amount of water. So I am wondering how it might be possible to regulate the water flow at the drippers or create mini-zones if you like. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Cheers

    • @polycrubdiaries8969
      @polycrubdiaries8969 Před 2 lety

      Hi, thanks for your comments and questions. It is possible to attach the drippers to the LDPE pipe using a twist valve (there are 10 included with the kit). You could have the valves fully open/partially open/closed depending on how much water you want to give each plant. As well as having a 'main' valve attached to the LDPE pipe, you could also have additional valves and t-pieces further downstream to have further control of how much water each plant gets. A bit like what we've done to water the hanging planters. We have a separate dripper coming off a main pipe to serve each hanging planter. We didn't use valves for each individual hanging planter - but you could do this to have further control on watering. Hope this makes sense, and hope this helps.

    Thanks for sharing/showing this. Great job with the installation. Does the solar panel provide enough power for the pump when its not so sunny? ie what happens when it's cloudy/grey - do you need a battery as backup? I've got as far as digging out the holes for my Peerie! Thank you!

    • @polycrubdiaries8969
      @polycrubdiaries8969 Před 2 lety

      That's a good question. So far it's been sunny every day for most of the day and the system has watered up to 5 times a day. The battery has been able to charge enough to keep the system operating. I will need to test it over the next few months to see how it charges on cloudy days. I did see on the harvst website that there is a bigger solar panel that can be bought as an upgrade though.
