Help me decide if I should crack this CGC graded Willie Mays and send it to SGC. Do you think it will keep at least a 5 with SGC or go up one or down one.
My First Vintage baseball card grading submission to SGC Cards stored in a lard container

These cards came out of an old lard container that I bought off of facebook marketplace. The container had well over 700 cards and I picked what I thought was the best 25 to be graded. I have not collected cards since I was a kid so this was a lot of fun

Hi Ryan, My SGC submission has returned and I’m very pleased with the results! The ‘74 Aaron graded a 8.5 and the ‘67 Aaron and ‘71 Aaron both graded a 7.5. Also, my ‘67 McCovey graded a 7, ‘80 McCovey graded a 8, and ‘81 Fleer McCovey graded a 8.5. Can’t wait until your ‘58 Mays returns in its tuxedo! Have a great night!

Hi Ryan, interesting video and beautiful Mays card! I commented on your last video a week or so ago. I just got back into the hobby in May and will be sending a few Hank Aaron and Willie McCovey cards to SGC soon. I would suggest cracking the case and submitting it to SGC especially since it sounds like you want it in a SGC holder anyway. The first card I purchased in May was a 1974 Topps Hank Aaron #1 “New All-Time Home Run King” in a BVG 8.5. Since then I also purchased a 1967 Topps Hank Aaron #250 and 1971 Topps Hank Aaron #400 (both cards were PSA 6s). Recently, I cracked all three cards out of their cases because I want them in SGC slabs (I LOVE the look). I’m hoping the ‘74 will grade at least a 7.5 (or higher if I’m lucky) and the ‘67 and ‘71 will both at least come back as SGC 6.5s (or 7s). Cracking the slabs was a risk I was willing to take to get them in better-looking SGC holders so I could enjoy the cards more. From this point forward I’m only going to purchase SGC slabs (I’m still learning what direction I want to take with collecting cards again). I’d be interested to see your result if you do crack the case and send it to SGC. Have a great weekend!

It does make me a little nervous to crack that Mays but like you say I believe it is worth the risk to get them in the tuxedo case. Take care of your self and happy card hunting.

Thanks for sharing this video Ryan! I really enjoyed it, I love vintage baseball cards! I just recently got back into baseball cards in May after being out of the hobby since 1990. I’ve got a few late 60’s and early 70’s Hank Aaron and Willie McCovey cards I’m going to send to SGC. Like you I love how they look in the SGC holder. Have a great day! I definitely hope you’ll post some more baseball card videos in the future.

Very nice cards brother ! The joy I feel even as a grown man getting back into the hobby the past few years is amazing and it brings back so many great memories from when I was a young kid collecting

Reminder for everyone that says “x person is so lucky they were born talented.” Obviously she sounded good here but nowhere near to where she is today. She is a perfect example of what training your voice and putting in the hard work gets you to.
