International Adoption: the Home Study: What to Expect
Hey everyone, it's MacKenzie!
The home study seems to be the most daunting part of the adoption process, but you don't need to be afraid!
I'll debunk some myths and misconceptions while also sharing helpful information to help ease your mind. Each state and country have different requirements, but this was our experience within the India program.
I hope this helps answer your questions if you're considering adoption, or if you're trying to better understand the adoption process with someone you may know. I hope this information helps your home study go as smoothly as possible!
Please watch our first adoption video if you'd like to hear how God placed adoption on our hearts. Thanks for watching!

@19:36* The training videos need to be completed before home study is completed, not before home study begins. The second portion of videos needed to be completed before adoption was finalized.
*I forgot to mention passports! 3rd party fees also include the price to apply/receive passports. Home study fees do not include this additional cost.
*Biometrics/Fingerprinting costs: $50 per adult
*For our psych evals, we needed them completed by a licensed psychiatrist, not a licensed psychologist. They are different!
And... if you were freaking out while I mentioned the fact that your savings account information needs to be documented, don't be afraid! We did not have a cushioned savings account. We didn't have much funds saved away, and we were still approved!

    This was great. We’re always looking for spelling programs that will work since we have a very struggling speller. Just subscribed. I also have a channel and would love to be friends and connect. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.

    Thank you for this video!!! Another MFW mama here!! This was super helpful. I also have a kiddo flying through the Rod and Staff spelling and will definitely supplement with the Spelling Power when we finish early next week. Are you still enjoying Spelling with Sound and Structure?

    What age/grade do you switch from SBSS to Spelling Power?!

    • @thehenhouse6183
      @thehenhouse6183 Před 2 lety

      Hi Stephanie! Sorry for the very late response. I was not receiving notifications on my channel for some reason. I switched when my daughter was in 5th going into 6th, if I remember. Around middle school was when she wanted just a list. You could switch earlier if you’d like. Thanks for leaving a comment!

    Do you use both curriculum to the same student?

    • @thehenhouse6183
      @thehenhouse6183 Před 2 lety

      Hi Stephanie, No, I do not use both currently. One curriculum is enough unless your child can memorize words quickly. My daughter did, and she used to memorize spelling words from both books, but that was because it interested her! My oldest is now doing Spelling Power on her own, and my second grader is using Spelling by Sound and Structure. Once my Kindergartener is old enough, he will also do SBSS. Hope this review was helpful to you!

    Thank you for this review. I was on the fence for Spelling by Sound and Structure. It was great to hear how you’ve used it, as well as the pros and cons. I think I may try it for next year.

      Good luck with it! I think you will really enjoy it. The workbooks are very gentle, yet comprehensive. I always enjoy hearing the pros and cons of a curriculum. Glad it was useful for you!

    I was looking for reviews of spelling power and found your channel. This was so helpful and now I am looking into spelling with sound and structure. I have a child with learning differences that make memorization slow and painful, so I do not think spelling power is right for her. Someone gifted me spelling with sound and structure grade 6, but my kids aren't there yet so I didn't appreciate how the program works. Now that I understand better I am ordering grade 3, which is very affordable on Thrift Books. Thank you!

      @@thehenhouse6183 Thank you, Yes I agree. The Abeka Academy accredited program moves very quickly. We need more than a week to master 30 words. It's really a challenge. I hope to to get different techniques and concepts this year from Spelling power and stay with the program.

    Thanks for this review. We are new to homeschooling and I purchased Practical Spelling (very similar to the Rod and Staff) but I'm thinking of getting Spelling Power instead.
