There are a big number of dark-skinned people from Africa in the next suburb to where I live in Melbourne. Remember that the indigenous peoples of Australia are dark skinned. The full-blooded ones are actually black skinned. (You look brown to me.) We also have South-Pacific Islander and New Zealand Maoris living near by, too. Look at the skin under your nails, feet and hands. It is white. You've just got a good suntan in my opinion. However, it is your culture that is different and which invites curiosity. If I, as a white Australian, moved to your country, I'd probably have a similar experience as you do here.

I think it would also depend where in Australia you live to the people you see day to day. I'm from the eastern suburbs of Melbourne and it is very multicultural here and I'm super chatty haha so I will talk to anyone and yes I will ask where you are from meaning suburb or country it is actually seen as courteous here to want to know about your fellow Australian. Aussies will even try to guess sometimes based on your accent please don't think this is racism or a game it is us showing interest and being friendly. Also a lot of Aussies have never left the country and probably never will, so different cultures, accents, people are genuinely interesting to us 😄
