Just heard this for the first time (how is that possible?!?) on world cafe and came here to listen a couple more times. What an awesome, powerful, perfect performance!
Not take away anything away from Odetta, who is indeed spectacular, but IMO the guy on the piano is really awesome also. And pretty effortless in the process.

Hello, @Carlybiter, My name is Cale Guillory, and I am a big fan of Carly Simon. I love “I Only Have Eyes for You”. Where did this alternate clip of “I Only Have Eyes for You” come from? Carly’s personal collection? LOL! The title card photo looks to be the one that is used at the beginning of the segment where Carly Simon and Richard Perry discuss the challenges of making Moonlight Serenade as “All the Things You Are” plays in the background.
She's so vain, she probably thinks this show was about her.

There was a telethon/special after Hurricane Katrina that introduced me to Odetta...I think she might have sung Tomorrow Is a Long Time - not sure, but I viscerally remember that performance, and I don't think it's ANYWHERE on YT. If I'm imagining things, I don't mind being corrected; but if I'm remembering correctly, somebody (if you have it) please put it up! Just like this song - I KNOW I came to it listening to Jessye Norman, but now her version is nowhere! Anyway, Thanks, and Cheers!
Just My Opinion, as a Christian - this movie was epic. What killed it to the public and Warner Brothers (and me), (she had big problems with them) was Walter Matthau 's blaspheming of the Lord (GD), over and over in one segment. This brought a curse on the movie and she had big troubles with it after that. There was no reason to do that unless it just pleasured her atheism.
They are incredible, and no profanity. They are truly gifted, simple plots filled with great humor

Soothing song with a surprising twist of humour. I didn't notice any humour in Bessie Smith's version of this song, but that might've just been me not being very observant. Odetta can sing.

Charlie Rose appeared on his program around 2008 with a black eye and cuts and bruises on his face. His producer told the story that he was walking down a NYC street, reading his I-phone and not paying attention, when he tripped on a pothole, and fell on his face. I never bought that explanation, and in retrospect, he likely got punched out by the father, brother, boyfriend or husband of one of those young interns.

Watching this knowing what we know now, it's difficult to believe that Charlie Rose was ever considered a good interviewer. He's terrible.
Disagree. I've watched many of his interviews with some excellent subjects. Hs long interviews drew out information that was rarely heard. Often his interviewees honestly thanked him for taking such an interest. This is after they've had so many 5 min interviews with interviewers who hadnt read the book or heard the music or seen the movie.
No, he was good in the early days, and his interviews with people such as Tom Hanks, Richard Serra and others were quite good. But something happened along the way; he became too intrusive, annoying, not letting the guest speak, etc. I think he fell in love with his own celebrity, I don't know.
He was never good at interviewing women. His (few) good interviews were with artists he seemed to have some respect for, like Scorsese, Coppola, Tarantino.
