This is about my life at sea. I attended Hull Trinity House Navigation School from 1958 to 1961, then followed a month at Aberdovey Outward Bound Sea School before joining my first deepsea ship at Liverpool on 5th May 1961. The British Merchant Navy at that time was probably the largest and best Merchant fleet in the World. After 52 years working on general cargo, bulk carriers, tankers, coasters, tramps, oil rig supply, drillships, container, vehicle carriers, and survey vessels, I finally had to call it a day May 2013 due to the dreaded bowel cancer.

HTHNS was one of the oldest navigation schools in the country in 1787. It prepared boys for a career in the Merchant Navy & Fishing Fleets.
THX for sharing your wonderful at sea.
I enjoyed you video, thanks for posting
Thanks Richard
Ces navires n'ont pas une très bonne réputation car souvent très haut sur l'eau en offrant une prise au vent importante , ils " roulent " bord sur bord ...
That's true Jacques, they roll the most when the sea & swell are on the quarter from aft, like most ships. The wind is definitely a problem sometimes when manoeuvring in port.
@@RayPurdy Merci pour votre réponse ...from France
AH AH SHIP AHOY SEAWARD HO HI MATE DE MOHANMJ EX-MARINER FROM CHENNAI

Brings back memories Where was your favourite place in Brazil for bagging off?
😂 Probably the same as yours.🤣
I enjoyed your documentary of your life at sea very well explained and very honest.
Thanks Gerry.
Thanks for sharing Ray. Brought back many happy memories, apart from running into FOS and getting our arses kicked with the Mistrals, it was a good life for me. Was lucky to see a lot of those real ships still running in 70-80s. Also managed to do a bit of everything, coasting, RFA, UBC, Denholms, Jebsens and CP Ships. The wife enjoyed Norfolk in the 69/70s. Went ashore once too often there and ended up 😂living there going on 37 years. Did 70-84 as an RO/REO and then 33 years as a shore tech in Norfolk. Hope you are getting the treatment you need. Thanks for the memories.
Love this Captain Purdy ❤
Thanks KP
Would like to watch, but i live in a place with very poor signal, so I have to download for watching later. But your video is not allowed for free download, needs paid subscription to CZcams.
Sorry about that Richard, I'm still finding my way around it all at the moment so I cannot help with that. If you were able to download it you would be able to watch it live.
@@RayPurdyThanks for that, I will try to watch live when I have a good connection. Looks interesting. Rgds, Richard (Blue Flue 1970-82, Indo China Steam Nav 1983-97)

Great video. Thank you for your time and for sharing your memories...
Glad you enjoyed it
Always wanted to go to sea, but instead worked all my life in the Nuclear Industry. Luckily lately project managing shipments of materials to and from Japan, the Netherlands, France and the USA, using the PNTL ships and also managing the decommissioning of four of the older vessels in the Netherlands and Belgium. Loved the old shots of Tokyo, visited there many times. Kind regards Chris Purdy
An old friend and one-time shipmate of mine worked for a company (Fishers I think) running nuclear-based cargos to Japan.
@@RayPurdy They ran the PNTL ships up until about 2012 when they lost the contract to Serco, who still have it now I believe.
