The Kingston Red Barons was Kingston's first female hockey team in modern times. (Queen's University fielded a women's hockey team in the 1910s, '20s, and '30s.) This is a brief re-telling of the story of this team of hockey pioneers.

Giant Swallowtail Ovipositing
zhlédnutí 27Před rokem
A female giant swallowtail assaying my prickly ash plants for a location to lay an egg. The butterfly searches for a suitable host plant, first by sight, and then by landing on the plant and assaying its chemistry with receptors on its the tarsi. It is essential for the butterfly to correctly identify a plant before ovipositing. The giant swallowtail apparently has only one host plant in Canada...
Windy Day (1973)

The first fiIm I ever made - in 1973 for Queen's Film Studies 210 Film Production Course. The Music was composed and performed by Philip Beesley, live to the projected film. Unfortunately, the magnetic audio track has lost it's clarity and the Kodachrome reversal film has lost a great deal of it's sharpness and colour.

For a couple of days this year it was perfect for skating on the lake. Queen's students are seen playing hockey in Kingston off Break Water Park, like they have been doing for about 175 years.

I found this to be very interesting. I attended RMC as a cadet for two years and would have benefitted by this knowledge at that time. Thank you Bob Banks (an RMC classmate) and Susan Bazely for a fascinating presentation.
Everytime I watch the end of one specific list I made I always see this video next I really need to watch it full when I have time Butterflies are indeed beautiful, sadly where I live butterflies are almost non-existent..I do miss the old times where I saw one everyday
Absolutely stunning performance of a superb piece. Thank you for sharing!
I have a small butterfly garden. And I think releasing butterflies at a wedding or anything is just bad. You should just let them be free. Don’t bother them!!!
I made this film beginning 35 years ago and finishing 20 years ago, and I have come to agree with you, in regard to wedding releases. I think that was an ill-conceived fad. But, I continue to raise butterflies to study and enjoy. I feel that is beneficial, for myself and for butterflies, at least I don't think it harmful, as there are fewer and fewer butterflies each year. Thank you for your input, from one year ago.
I just came upon this video today, while researching Wolfe Islander IV. What an interesting, informative and sometimes humourous presentation. The little subtle jokes are really good. Thank you Captain. It was really nice to get a glimpse of "Captain Jo" (Joanne Crack) in the audience, Bless her sole, and Captain's mention of her. I really enjoyed this video.
In love with Lepidoptera
That was my moms wedding 🥰
That is an amazing coincidence. You must have been surprised. Best wishes.
Where can the book" Ferry Tales of Wolfe Island be purchased?" Thanks
Really amazing 🦋❤️🙏🏼 Thankful 🦋❤️🙏🏼
It's called faith, because it isn't knowledge.
An excellent video! Would like to see a lot more of this either in Kingston, North Frontenac, or Lanark County.
Oh yes, they are very territorial! I once watched a butterfly chase a hummingbird away from some red pentas.
RIP RSM Pollitt.
That is very sad. Thank you for letting me know.
DJ and Bill ( William) Jeronimus ...great video ..nice job.

Some great shots of the Wolfe Islander that was sunk off Wolfe Island.
This is a great video. Tons of information.
Thank you Captain Brian Johnson!! Your cousin Anne-Marie Doyle - Santa Fe, New Mexico USA
Thanks, Wanda. There are great lectures happening in Kingston which few hear about; thought I'd try to record a few. I'm glad you enjoyed. Dave
First time I have ever heard of the 'comfort of silence', well explained. I appreciate being able to view this lecture on residential schools. Thank you.
Very nice David...thanks for posting.
Well done film, thank you
Thanks very much. Hopefully there'll still be skating after this snow.
Best video- thank you!
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed. :)
miss skating on the lake with you all
Dave did a great job working with us on the video about our apple farm business! He came onsite several times during our annual harvest cycle from spring blossom through fall harvest and into winter pruning...Each time capturing genuine scenes that bring our farm story alive in an informative and entertaining manner. We have incorporated the video into our online and onsite customer experience and are getting great response! Marita Waddell
