    Hey man awesome work, while the house is back to its skeleton try and future proof it as best as you can. Try to move electric sockets, plumbing fixtures and expensive stuff higher in the house. If you have underfloor heating consider a concrete or tile floor and rugs. And talk to your neighbours about localised flooding barriers, or drainage containment. If the next flood is only 1 metre you would face many of the same problems. I wish you no harm and only good luck, we might differ on many things but I think you are a really nice chap. If you need any research or advice on building please ask I am more than happy to help.

    I think you did a very good job finally to get the moisture out, but i do wonder why you have the windows open when you have a dehumidifier going. Even in hot weather you can have high humidity....my opinion is do one or the other cause you are starting from scratch every time you leave the windows open like that....the dehumidifier needs to take the moisture out of the air that you just let in everytime you leave the windows open.

    Hi martyn as far as the insulation being really wet you need to open at least 3bricks wide not just 1 but you must have flow of warm outside air to get in you need to come up 2 or 3 feet above where these bricks are cut out and take out 3 bricks widehigher up so warm air will push in and moisture will escape up higher as the moisture warms it rises so cut holes 3bricks wide round at low level , then repeat 3 feet up above and cut 3more bricks wide so that will cause air to flow much better out off the 3brick wide upper cut outs . Warm air will flow into insulation and as this moisture evaporation will get out higher up as if you only have cut out at bottom air can't get in and out same area we'll. That's why you need to make area wider all round bottom . Then cut same out higher it will really dry out this way when your happy then bricklayer can fit in new bricks and outer wall resealed

    • @RussianTravels
      @RussianTravels Před dnem

    You probably have that house cleaner than it was when it was new. Be careful that you don't take the humidity too low because that can cause a whole set of new problems, shrinkage and cracking. The optimal humidity is 30 to 45% So far, the work you have done, it amazing. The holes on the outside walls are brilliant, I never would have thought of that. 👍

    If you fridge only has 1 compressor and the frezzer itself gets cold, it might be just the fan that distributes cold air from the freezer to the cold compartment. If it doesn't work at all while compressor is pumping, then yeah, it must be the compressor itself, or something might've damaged the condenser or the piping. If the compressor itself doesn't do anything - temperature sensors, relays or the ECU You're doing pretty good with the house, hope it won't take too much time to get it back in shape!

    Here in Nothern Spanish Galicia Humidifiers are a must, one of the reasons is because the liers are made with cement and sand, in Argentine the mixture is 40% lime the rest divided between cement and sand, so mold is in damp winters a damnation that have to be washed with lye and cleaned with an anti-humidity liquid. the primitive way was a bucket a colander and thick salt in the colander, it filles the bucket with water.

    It all looks promising. The big issues of structural problems and health risks seem to be fading. The remaining cloud is the risk of a repetition, so let's hope that this never comes to pass. It might be worth investing in a moisture meter. Getting some quantitative feedback for how the dryout is going could be encouraging and helpful. I believe that you are 'home and dry' once things are under about 20% moisture. Most have quite short prongs, but a meter with prongs that can be deeply embedded into the brickwork or insulation might be more useful if available. If you keep measuring in the same position you won't be putting dents in the plaster everywhere. You can get remote (pinless) ones that claim to measure several centimetres into masonary, but how reliable or consistent they are I am not sure. These devices are not particularly expensive.

    • @RussianTravels

    • @joe_ninety_one5076
      @joe_ninety_one5076 Před 21 hodinou

      @@RussianTravels No problem. As I wrote, there are a few types: 1. The ones with pins are most common. They are also pretty accurate and reliable but probably measure the resistance between the two pins so probably don't measure very deeply. They were originally designed for wood but will read plaster and other construction materials, though how accurately I'm not sure. They are the cheapest at £10 to £20. 2. Pinless ones using a capacitance-induction method come in at £30 to £50. You place these flat on the surface and they are supposed to measure an average to a depth of maybe 18mm. I have seen some information that one doesn't work too well on drywall, but as a relative measuement it might be fine. 3. There are pinless ones that use a dielectric measurement method. You can distinguish them by the metal ball that they use as a probe. These are supposed to penetrate to 40 mm or so, but are the most expensive at £50 upwards. 4. Some companies do combinations of 1 and 2 in one meter (eg Extech, £40 to £50) These prices are all for cheap chinese imports. Professional versions can be a lot more expensive. If you know a friendly surveyor you might get some free advice. Don't measure near metallic objects; you will get a false reading. If you do get one I suggest first establishing what 'dry' looks like by trying it out on your rental home and the walls above the damp level in your recovering home. You could also try wetting some plasterboard and brick/block, if you have any lying around, and measuring that (after waiting for the surface water to evaporate) to see what wet looks like. However you proceed, good luck with everything.

    • @joe_ninety_one5076
      @joe_ninety_one5076 Před 21 hodinou

      @@RussianTravels PS. I like what you have done with the outside bricks. If there is any gap between the insulation and the outside wall the ventilation should dry the insulation pretty well eventually. But what on earth has happened to the mortar round those rather friable looking looking bricks? They look like they need at least repointing. The brown ones are fine. It looks like two different teams did them.

    • @joe_ninety_one5076
      @joe_ninety_one5076 Před 20 hodinami

      @@RussianTravels Another thought. You can also get moisture detectors for garden soil (about £10). They might give a reading for your insulation through a hole drilled in the wall. It might not be an accurate reading, but succesive ones might demonstrate that things are improving. A lot of 'mights' there, though.

      The car was about 1,500,000 rubles to import and register etc. wanted to keep the car as couldn’t get anything similar for cheaper. The soil was a must as needed replacing round the sceptic tank and the soil was at a good price. Everything else has been ordered to restore. Yes a lot of money but we need to be out of rented soon as yes eating money.

      Martin, thank you, very honest open answer, quick calculation and engine size and what you write on your passenger import form when you drove from U.K. , 15k in duties you would not have got a Mercedes for, You paid top dollar as a complete shakeup is going through the State Duma on duty and customs, A Russian dual citizen would be able to temporarily import the car one year and extend another year free of duty.
