The Jubilee Nurse
This short film by Arthur Lynch premiered at the Rathmullan Film Festival in 2024.
The film honors Kate McConalogue from Rathmullan, who, at 27, became a widow with two young daughters. She trained with the Jubilee Nursing scheme in Dublin and was posted to Glencolmcille. Kate immersed herself in her work, but tragedy struck when the Spanish Flu hit Ireland. Despite knowing the risks, she continued to work and ultimately contracted the virus, dying in December 1918. One of her last visits was to a home where the virus claimed a mother and her newborn twins, followed by the father. The family's surviving children included Min, who later moved to America, where her sons became congressmen. Kate was buried in Killygarvan graveyard, and her daughters were raised by local relatives.

My name is Tess Gallagher, nee Tinney, Rosene stayed with my family in Glasgow in the 1960’s , she would have been distantly related to my father John Tinney from Lurganbrack Glenvar. My sister and I loved Rosena, as we called her, she spoke to us often of her sister May and May’s family .
My Uncle James Coyle, great to see him again.

I have never found in the bible that unbaptised children cannot be buried in consecrated ground. Please tell me if you have. Cee💚💚💚🍀🍀🍀
God knew these children, what the cc thought was irrelevant. Jesus gave the criminal next to him when he was dying, the hope of eternal life.
RIP. Unforgettable.
Only in Ireland would they talk about history and then write on the stone in a foreign language
"The old ways are best."
So very sad, but a beautiful tribute to all those little babies. Well done to all those involved.
