Yes confusing to casuals, but as you mentioned they allowed an exemption for the fight to take place. Most people that follow boxing knew that this would happen, yes the IBF said they would honor the champion by considering his request but they only said that out of respect. We knew he was going to get stripped. I personally don't think it diminishes the rematch or Hrgović AJ. It's what makes Undisputed special, it's very hard to accomplish.
