I've seen people drive into a lane like that and not realize until they get up by the corner that it isn't the lane they thought it was. They are tourists who don't know any better. Some do try to back up and get in the correct lane. That kind of thing happens in a tourist town. The citizenry just go 'what do you think you're doing?"

I drive semis and ride bikes long distance. It was getting so dangerous because of 4-wheelers self entitled attitudes and disregard for anyone's safety in 2000s. It has gotten really evil since 2020. Amateur drivers often make mistakes, but I have witnessed this attack to cripple or kill on an impulse, and following the hit, running away. The evil drivers are too stupid to be issued a license in the first place--every other vehicle has a dash cam. But I quit riding because it is crazy murderous out there anymore. People drive like they plan on bouncing off cars and pedestrians too, just a normal day then speed away.

Add to that the fact that it is a cold slushy day, and the officer is likely NOT in a happy mood....
