    Hmmm... this is super helpful... Between this and Blender Sketcher, I'm trying to think why I would still need to learn Freecad when I can just loft things in Blender and control the topology better that way?

      If you need super accurate technical drawings then CAD software but pretty much everything else, Blender does fine 🤌

    How would I control a camera using a controller with this addon ? I'd like to use my controller to live direct shots. I'm trying with a geometry node setup and a transform geometry node in a simulation zone, but the camera doesn't move in local coordinates but in global coordinates. Also, the pivot point of the setup doesn't change, so the rotation of my camera is always around the original pivot point instead of where my camera now is.

      You would need to create a whole object move with forward axis defined and then the camera can hook to one vertex while looking at another. Maybe mix some of the rest of the driving game series with some of the control anything tutorial where I control a camera. Might also be worth looking into some other addons that do things like mapping the camera to your phone in real life so you just move it around like virtual production

    I always thought that Drivers (and maybe even Attributes) nested within Groups were much laggier for Blender to populate than Drivers in the top--most layer of a Node Tree, so you had to pipe them into Groups that use them. Can anybody confirm or correct?

      I wouldn’t expect that but I’ve not tested. One thing that is worth doing (especially in shaders) is using custom properties through an attribute node rather than drivers

      @Erindale Oh... I was putting all my custom properties into a Collection for easy access and control over the whole scene no matter which object is selected. I guess moving them directly to the object would allow me to use the Attribute node? That definitely is more efficient. I'd still need drivers to spread the same value across multiple objects, though. Or to use the same value in geometry nodes and in a material. I'll think about it. I don't like switching between objects and manually setting different Custom Properties to the same value, because it introduces an element of human error. There's nothing more disheartening than waiting for a massive batch render, only to realize you forgot to tweak a W value or something and now this shot doesn't match the rest of the project.

      If you put them on the scene itself you can set the attribute node to view layer and pull the value by writing [“prop name”] in the attribute. Otherwise you can put them on a specific object if they’re only needed for one. You’re right though, for now you’d need drivers to put them into geo nodes

    Hello thanks for the tutorial this is awesome and easy to follow i have some trouble at 34:04 the capture atribute node seems to have changed in blender 4.2 i have trouble understanding what it does and how to make it work any help would be appreciated :)

      The capture node now works a bit easier. Just select the domain you want to capture on and plug in whatever values you want to capture at that point. Now you can capture multiple attributes at the same time as long as you want them on the same geometry domain.

    If you are generating a curve inside of your node tree to use this "Curve Deform" node group on, you have to make sure to place a "Set Curve Radius" between the curve and the node group. Curves built in the modeler seem to have a default radius of 1, while ones built in geometry nodes seem to default to a radius of 0 until you set one. So if you are trying to use this with a curve generated inside of your node tree and not imported from outside of the node group with an Object Info node and aren't seeing anything, that is probably why you aren't getting any output (everything being scaled to 0 based on the radius).

      Yeah this is correct. I think that should be patched to have a default of 1 for radius but I’m not sure if it’s in yet

    Hello, I'm at 18:12 and I have a problem. I've tried to go back and redo the node from 0 but it doesn't work. Instead of hearts I have some kind of sticks arranged in a radial way. And it's the same with the other shapes: each time I get sticks instead of the chosen shape. I'd like a little help, thank you, have a nice day.

      From 18:34 it's worse on my side ahah my features disappear (as in the video) but don't reappear at 18:51 (I suppose there's a manipulation to do but it's not explained in the video). When I change shape( circle, square, triangle and heart) it changes slightly so the knots are well linked I guess. I don't know what to do, I could use a little help, please!

    Super good tutorial! I'm learning a lot about geo nodes from you already. I'm having trouble with having the next object in the collection starting at the end of the previous instance. Currently its just starting at the origin of the previous instance instead and I can't figure out why its doing that.     Hi Erin! 😀 Can you suggest some books to understand advanced 3d vector matrices system or 3d in general for proceduralism, (useful to understand 3d more deeply)?? I come from engineering background so I know the basic vector calculus (people from science/engineering stream can relate, 😅) (I'm already an intermediate Geo Node User). Like in blender itself, we now have the power of manipulating matrices. This reminds me of stuff like Inverse, transpose, determinant, eigenvalues, etc etc learnt during college. It's just that if I can get a good structured textbook kind of reference, to understand all this advanced maths stuff for 3d, so that I can create complex procedural 3d stuffs with the power of 3d maths.     Hey, I checked the documentation and apparently now you need to create a folder called “portable” in the blender zip config, right next to the blender executable and the config will go there (instead of the folder 4.2) and it will work.

    Random Q: Do you know of a way to find the Length or Factor of a spline at it's intersection with a single vector value? ie. I have multiple splines that each cross over x=0 and x=4 plane. I want to trim them perfectly to those X values while maintaining their Y and Z values where crossing those planes. I am stumped.

    I had this weird situation after installing this xinput addon on a alpha 4.3 build. Where all my usb storage devices would turn off and on under certain conditions. But disabling the add-on stopped it
