    I've created the config.json file to includeItems for a couple of my lists and the items were not copied over. There was no error on the get-pnpsitetemplate command. I've examined the output xml and I don't see any reference to the content (what I'm specifically looking for is a complex folder structure). What should I be looking for in the xml so I know it ran and the items were included? my config.json file looks like this { "$schema":"aka.ms/sppnp-extract-configuration-schema", "handlers": [ "Lists", "WebSettings", "Pages", "Fields", "Navigation", "Files", "SiteSettings" ], "pages": { "excludeAuthorInformation": true, "includeAllClientSidePages": true }, "lists": { "lists": [ { "includeItems": true, "title": "Employee Files" }, { "includeItems": true, "title": "TrainingContent" }, { "includeItems": true, "title": "Videos" }, { "includeItems": true, "title": "Employee onBoarding" }, { "includeItems": true, "title": "NewHires" }, { "includeItems": true, "title": "Events" } }, "persistAssetFiles": true, "siteSecurity": {"includeSiteGroups": true} }

    I love the details in this video and definitely has helped me understand those concepts a lot cleaner. I had a question looking at it from the inner department standpoint. Using a scenario such as an Dept: IT Team in a M365 Group, reviewing your video, it mentions it best for collaboration within the department. Looking at it when you get to a larger size and inner departments within IT (IT Support, System Administration, Development, etc.) would you be looking at the security at that level to stay within the Dept: IT Teams and building a Private channel for the inner departments (which in turn creates a separate site) with permissions still managed at the Teams Level or break out into another M365 Teams Group? I could see both ways being tailored to the permissions still staying within their respective M365 Group and easily manageable at the Teams Level with a New Owner and Members for the private channel/site. It's somewhat the question of looking at security best practices as you mentioned in another video, but I have heard sites built within others is not the best approach.

    • @DeShonClark
      @DeShonClark Před 2 měsíci

      great question...for large organziations, i would create a new team per department (regardless of their structure dept within the parent department)...this is so subjective, and it depends on how large is the team. just keep in mind the management of the "team members" at the team level can create a lot of friction and slow down productivity if the structure is too deep....which is why I like to keep the MS Team structure flat (team per department) which possible...so larger orgs, will tend to have a team per department even it that department is 4th or 5th level deep in the org

    • @DeShonClark
      @DeShonClark Před 2 měsíci

      another thing to keep in mind...private channels do not use MS 365 groups...but rather just the SP groups (which cannot be used outside of the SP site collection...so it falls apart when you need a planner or calendar or any other asset that's secured by m365 groups.

    Trying to understand the permission structure. It seems straight forward for the department itself and representation of SharePoint vs Teams (which thank you!). When we do our annual audits for users having access, what would you say is the best practice for using Modern Groups vs the Built-in Teams Group. For example, we have 5 team members, and one was specifically tied to a folder in the general folder files. When they are offboarded, we don't necessarily delete the users right away, but we have no vision that they were manually tied to a folder in our audits. We have been using Azure Security Groups to help provide this vision when we do an audit on someone's account (ex. SG-IT-TEAM-MEMBER). When it comes time, we can pull against the security groups in Azure to quickly determine what roles need to be modified or can be quickly revoked through the removal of the SG. Greatly appreciate some input related to this as I keep learning more on the Strategy behind these approaches. Or should we be looking at it from the Department controlling their narrative of the sites and auditing their own respective areas?

    • @DeShonClark
      @DeShonClark Před 3 měsíci

      I love the annual audit idea, speed would be the most important thing for most clients. An annual audit to clean up security groups is a must, just to kind of get rid of the dead weight. In Azure (Entra ID) AD you can see all the groups a user is tied to... So as part of my offboarding process, I will be looking at the groups from a user level. And tackle it that way. Then I will also ensure that if I remove that user from the group, the group is not empty. I'm not sure how you guys do it there, but for some clients when a user gets off-boarded, the manager takes over the OneDrive and their access for a period of time. Once that grace period elapsed then IT jumps in and starts removing the user from the respective groups . I think you're spot-on to put the responsibility on the department, to ensure that they are replacing the offboarded user with a new user within their area. We see this a lot with power apps and power automates created by the off-boarded user. This becomes an exponential problem when you have citizen development going within the organization. So I think the role from IT, security, is providing the manager of that department the information or tool, which enables them to easily identify the assets that need to be updated
