The story behind the song is from an anonymous person who had faced a lot of negativity from the girlfriend's side(soon to be his wife). But despite the hate and hurtful words that were thrown at him, the girlfriend sticked with him through the good and bad times till they were married and had two kids. The fisherman also managed to build a home for them and also paid the wife's bride price.
