I have seen both Greatest Days and the previous musical The Band and compared to the latter, I have to say this, to me was nowhere near as good. Yes, the sound quality, orchestra and lighting was great, as was the storyline but what really let it down for me was the set. It did nothing to tell the story and was, in my opinion, a waste of a stage. It felt like something out of an amateur production, a characterless grey wall with some steps that moved around every now and again to make bricks, seats etc. Thankfully the music, sound and lighting went some way to improve what would have otherwise been a very mediocre show. As I left that night, I remembered wanting to go and see the Band again, whereas with this, once was enough. I’ve even seen trailers for the shortened version on P&O Arvia and it looks better on the ships than this did at the theatre. Having said all of that, it’s a show with take that music so this would have been better as a concert version, without the set in my opinion, I probably would have enjoyed it more. That’s just my opinion though but for those who are still yet to see it, enjoy. The music is fab and despite all I’ve said, let’s be honest, the songs is the real reason why any of us are going to see this show.
