Being practical (camper with bump tops) carries more stuff , especially the taller items , need to double stack..vs the flat tops

Alway buy a camper top with the front window can be removed to clean the outside camper windows and rear of outside cap windows of pickup.. Mid rise create lots more room then the flat roof camper tops…I use my wind-door alot while camping! Leer camper parts are available.. The bump top …it has more carrying space inside …you will find this out why the flat tops ..does not make sense ?

All camper top companies are now own by one person. All made in Mexico. Parts are hard to find..I broke my passenger side wing window..18 months later replaced, two times wrong size, 2 nd time wrong side was sent. SAD this person has a poor quality Leer camper top. I found my wing window was a great thing for my purpose,especially loading and unloading from the sides ..the front window that drop down makes cleaning truck rear outside windows and camper outside cleaning WORTH the PRICE!

I went to the ATC website to find the cap you have. But the site only lists a "Stepside" and also only a regular or access cab config. Not the double cab that you have. I also have a double cab and would like cap. Can you share what config you used?

Some WD40 'Specialist' Silicone spray in those sliding window tracks/seals will likely make the windows move much easier.

I'm usually not one to want to hear a lot of complaining but as much as they charge for these they had better be flawless. That's pretty raggedy, looking at the sum of all of those issues.

Has anyone put a roof top tent on a 180? I am soon pulling the trigger on a brand new 180XL for my 5.8’ Silverado bed. The salesman told me to think hard if I want a rack system as it’ll have to be ordered with that upgrade because they reinforce the top to support the weight. I’m curious if it would be computable with an RTT. I see cab height caps with the racks and RTT. But mid-high rise on a short bed? Not sure if it’ll work. Great video! My dad has a ‘17 Tacoma TRD pro crew cab with the leer cab height cap. Fits his dogs, their beds, rods, cooler, his trapping, gear and a stack of furs during trapping/hunting season.

I have Leer 180 cab height with windoors, looks great but need more head room especially with Decked system. A roof rack in front like Prinsu rack etc makes difference in how the mid rise looks.

Just test drove a beautiful used 2022 Tacoma, really liked it. Came home and called a local truck topper dealership to get some ballpark pricing. He tells me among other things that the Tacoma truck is notorious for leaking with camper shells. That they try to fix it but they can’t guarantee it will still not leek. So l do some research and sure enough everybody has problems with the Tacoma leaking in the front corners (right where l would put my head when sleeping). Now l learn that Leer is selling a lemon like this. So now unfortunately I’m rethinking it all. Funny 35 years ago l put a cap that wasn’t even a good fit on a Isuzu P’up, never had one drop of water come in, and l drilled hole in the roof for a roof rack also.

The mid rise has always been the way to go for me. Can’t imagine the extra few inches would make any difference in MPG, still looks good, and the extra head room will make livability a lot nicer. The taller ones for me, for some reason just look butt ugly. Got to have windows with screens unless you never are out in 70+ temperatures.

I’m glad I was able to see how wimpy those rear leaf springs are. I’ll have to find some aftermarket ones that can haul more. Perhaps I’ll look into the “ballon’s “ . I had adjustable rear air shocks on my old pickup and they were awesome. My old truck was a Ford Ranger and before I had the rear air shocks installed, I could only haul a 1/2 a yard of Topsoil, but after the air shocks were installed I could put 75 psi (the max capacity was 100 psi) and I could haul over a full yard. I know it would have been able to haul more, but I would have had to build walls past the bed height. I don’t want to change the shocks on my 23 Tacoma, so I’ll have to figure something else out. During the winter months I put 260# of sand bags over the rear axle for better traction on our snow covered roads.

I would have preferred buying an Access Cab over the Double Cab, but our parents are getting to the age that they can’t drive anymore, so we’ve now become our parents’ taxis. Nonetheless my Tacoma will outlive me.

What is the LARGEST tire size that you can put on your Tacoma without having to shave any body parts on a 16” wheel?

When I started looking for a 23 Tacoma. I was very specific on what I wanted. I was looking for either a Barcelona Red (I LOVE Red vehicles), White or Lunar Rock. It had to be a Double Cab, 6’ bed and a TRD Off Road. I never found exactly what I was looking for in 23, but on 2/29/24 I found my White TRD. It was a loaner truck from the dealership and had only 6K miles. It booked for $51,844 and I bought it for $48K. The dealership had already installed a Tri-Fold hard tonneau cover and running boards. The first week of ownership I installed a K&N cold air intake, mud flaps, window vents. Next was a Flowmaster FlowFX turn down exhaust system so the engine can breathe easier giving it a Deep, Throaty sound without the drone at highway speeds. I’ve installed a few TRD Red trim pieces in the interior. I had Katzkin make TRD Red Leather seat covers with black trim and stitching (to match the black interior). After they removed the factory black leather seat covers and replaced them with the TRD Red Leather, I sold the black leather to a friend who owns a 23 Tacoma with grey cloth interior. Next I had my truck 2 toned in Barcelona Red metallic, following the body lines of the exterior sheet metal. I’m thinking of buying a set of Bronze colored wheels for my Tacoma. I think it’ll really set it off up against the Barcelona Red and White. I’m Love the Overland Torque Tune (OTT), as it allows the torque to kick in at just 2K RPM instead of the factory setting of 3,600 RPMs. The OTT also STOPS the transmission from “hunting” for the right gears. I’ll keep driving on the factory tires until they need replacement and then I’ll buy a set of Faulken Wildpeaks, as I / we do some off roading on Forest and Logging roads. We live in a very mountainous area of north central Washington state, 5 miles from town on a private road that we have to plow and maintain ourselves. We get 5-7 feet of snow every winter so I need a great A/T tire that is snow peak rated. If you have any suggestions about any mods you did with your Tacoma, please let me know. Cheers !

I found an absolute gem. this exact truck, one owner, 50,000 miles. This is my dream truck and I am so thankful. Curious if anyone has ever done a pass-through window in these trucks since that back window rolls down. I'm going to live in my truck for a good bit of time and I'm looking into it but can't find anyone that's done it before.
