I lived near Alton as a young girl, and visiting Robert's grave I THINK I even sat in the chair In any case I enjoyed your documentary, especially when he had his little brother on his lap. Very sweet.

What a lovely warm person he was. He died in the year my parents got married❤

His family did a great job bringing him up as a balanced and outward-looking young man. He was a credit to them and to himself, of course.

Why come the whole family was freemasons though?

To demonstrate how quickly time flies, there were 35 years between the time of Robert's death in 1940 to the time the original documentary was made in 1975. Between the date of the original documentary in 1975 to the present (2024), it has been nearly 50 years. So there has been more time that has passed since the original documentary, than between his death and the documentary, when they probably thought at that time that a lot of time had passed. It really blows the mind when you think about time moving so quickly.

The cause of death seems like it could have, or should have been noticed earlier. I wonder if it could have been cured today.

I don’t see anything funny about Mr. Wadlow’s condition. Making fun of him and laughing at him just shows how cold your heart is.

Imagine dying from a foot infection. My grandfather dies when my father was 7 years old. He died of sepsis from an abscess on his nose. The area is called the triangle of danger because venous blood mixes with intracranial blood. What would today be a few days of antibiotics was throughout history a death sentence. As I watch this movie I am reminded of all the wonderful people I have met through the years. Perhaps not as tall but in the presence of greatness there is hope.

I'm just so impressed with the love and acceptance of his community. You would think that, listening to the way revisionists would have us believe how intolerant things were early last century, that Robert would have been locked away. Not so! We are probably far less loving and tolerant than previous generations.

What a wonderful movie. I’m thankful for what we have today but I also miss when life was simple. Always nice to hear a story of righteous people.

People were so kind and considerate back then compared to people today section as when they put the silver Dollar on Roberts head & even when people couldn't reach it they still gave it to him cuz they didn't want to embarrass other people. I wish the majority of people would be like that today. This was a breath of fresh air compared to everything else on the internet 😊

There's a magnificent LIFE-SIZE bronze statue of Mr. Wadlow (portrayed sitting in that specially-made easy chair shown in this documentary) in a small park situated about a mile southeast of downtown Alton. I was wondering why it isn't shown in here...and then it dawned on me--the statue is a rather recent tribute that the town fathers commissioned and installed, quite a few years after this film was produced and directed during by a St. Louis-based documentarian during the 1970s (and then in 1991 marketed on DVD). Next time you're visiting The Gateway City--I was raised in its southwest suburb known as Concord Village--by all means do what pretty much ALL the tourists do--i.e., taking the obligatory ride up The Arch in either of those two custom-engineered trains--they're the only such trains anywhere on earth--that trundle you up to the tiny viewing room inside the top of The Gateway Arch...but ALSO then be sure to sequester a few hours for your family to drive over the Mississippi (there are four bridges you can traverse in the St. Louis metro area, and the one furthest north takes you right into Alton) and visit Alton for yourself to see the statue and his gravesite. Once you reach Alton, I expect you react like I did--finding it to be a humbling experience, to just tour the very places he lived and haunted in his earlier years, contemplating how this sensitive man was able to so cheerfully deal with his unfortunate fate from birth. (Now, if it would have been me instead of him struggling to just walk in those outsized custom-crafted shoes, I'm quite certain I would have been pretty much perpetually angry at G-d and/or Mother Nature ever since childhood at my fate.) Yet as this touching documentary documents, Wadlow by all accounts was a seriously-afflicted young man who nonetheless somehow never allowed his unique circumstance to afflict--or even taint!--his sterling character. There's a serious lesson about life in general in his story we ALL can benefit from, and I thank my fellow St. Louisan for crafting this film so well. The St. Louis suburb of Alton, Illinois is also, by the way, the town where MLK's confessed assassin James Earl Ray was raised. BRYAN STYBLE/Florida

If I could get to his grave I would put flowers on it. Robert was a real hero and should never be forgotten but he is for the most part but I will never forget him. This video really got to me. Thanks for posting it! 🌝🌈🌼🇺🇸
