Another version of this musical piece goes by the title "Sacerdos alter Christus" . The late Mro. Giuseppe hailed the newly ordained priest on his First Solemn High Mass with this hymn or with 'Tu es sacerdos". That was in the late fifties and early sixties, as our recordings clearly show.

The Bass-Baritone solo is Jackie Aloisio and the tenor solo is Angelo Cefai - two valid voices of the Camilleri Cappella in my youthful days.

If you would like to listen to the original 'Sanctus', I mean that in use before the reform brought by the Vat. II, you cn go to my first High Mass in 1961 on this same link, EBP482. Then the Sanctus and the Benedictus were separated by the Consecration of the Body and Blood. Mro Camilleri made the necessary arrangements required by the reformed Liturgy.

This recording dates back to 1976, a few weeks before Mro. Giuseppe Camilleri passed away on Aug 26. Accompanied by the organ, the choir alternates with the orchestra. I can distinguish the voices of Jackie Aloisio, Guzeppi Farrugia, Angelo Cefai and Pio Zammit. What memories! Thank you Fr. Sandro.

This was in 1976, a few weeks before The Mro. passed away (mid May in fact and he passed away 26 Aug.).It was the wish of the Parish-Priest and Giuseppe was only too glad to oblige. He was sensitive to liturgy and welcomed Maltese in solemn liturgy. I can distinguish voices: Jackie Aloisio, Guzeppi Farrugia, Angelo Cefai as soloists.

Once more the choir of 'voci bianche' as female voices were not permitted. Besides Debattista the solo of the Offertory another solo voice was Victor Cauchi of the Cappella Camilleri. Happy memories evoked of 54 years ago. Thank you Fr. Sandro.

The tenor solo in the Offertory was J. Debattista who soon after emigrated to Australia. The Sanctus is sung as it used before Vat.II, with a break between the first and second part allowing the words of Consecration be said. The solo in Benedictus is Angelo Cefai. Later Mro Giuseppe ably arranged it to suit the liturgical requisits. (This is interesting to listen to as it is no more possible to listen to in this form). The Pater Noster as well was sung by the celebrant only. Again in the Agnus Dei the bass/baritone solo is Pio Zammit, a geat friend.. RIP to the Mro., orchestra and choir who rest with the Lord. (the recording dates back to 1961. excuse the quality but it's historic, I think)

The orchestra and choir of Cappella Camilleri plus the boy's choir of Mr Amante Attard conducted by Mro Giuseppe himself. The solo baritone of the Introit is Jackie Aloisio while the bass solo of the Gloria is Pio Zammit.

This is one of the two Antophonies dedicated to St. George by the Cappella, original of Mo. Giuseppe. The orchestra is directed by Fr. Jos Cachia and the soloists are Carmel Cassar (Baritone) and J. Lopez (tenor)

This hymn was composed by Mro Giuseppe Camilleri (Born 1903) to the words of the latinist Rev. Jos Zammit Brighella, in 1923 when he was invited to take over the Cappella at St. George - Qormi. The orchestra is directed by Fr. Jos Cachia and the soloists are Andrew Sapiano (Tenor) and Jackie aloisio (Bass/Baritone).

There was a time when no female voices were allowed on the choir loft (il-gallerija tal-orgni). So the first verse was sung by a 'voce bianca' and the second by a choir of voci bianche' I would like to listen to it so executed, please.

This Requiem was recorded on a battery driven recorder held on hand by an admirer of Mro. Giuseppe and passed to me and I passed it recently to his daughter. Fr. Jos Cachia brought together his cappella to pay the last tribute to a most worthy gentleman and director. I can distinguish the voices of Andrew Sapiano, Angelo Cefai, Jackie Aloisio, Jos Farrugia, Pio Zammit, Carmelo Cassar and George Ellul Mercer.

The solist tenor for the Benedictus is Angelo Cefai (late in his career in 1964)

A really devout piece of music! I remember the devout Tantum Ergo pieces which in the words of a friend and admirer used to tell me: "Igeghluk tinzel gharkupptejk u tadura!"

The Camilleris were by nature violonists and one can tell that it is Camilleri composition by noticing the unique handling of the cord instruments. This was indicated to me by a musician priest who was a contemporary and friend of Ferdinando and Agostino, a violinist virtuoso and teacher.

Mro Camilleri composed this Sanctus inspired by the fanfare of trumpets which was played from st. Peter's loft during the incoronation of the Pope: Pope Paul VI was the last to be crowned. If the Pope was hailed by trumpets, Why not Our Lord, he told me, when He is now present on the altar Body, soul, God and Man.

A big thank you to the Minister Provincial Fr. Overend for offering us such beautiful music executed by the Malta Philharmonic, a good choir and choice voices under the able conductor Farrugia Frantz. Pity the conductor does not remember Giuseppe alive as I and others do and could be able to learn a few tricks in conducting. Myself have some recordings and could offer them.

It was a revelation for me and many. This music was composed before the Motu Proprio of Pius X. I admire its beauty and art and not less the capacity of his son Giuseppe in composing simpler and equally beautiful music for Church services in which I was present as an altar boy and later as a priest. Giuseppe was a wonderful: with as many as four voices and him on the organ could create something beautiful and devout, liturgical and artistic. Pity we could not record it then.

Well done to Franciscan Community for the tribute given to the two great composers of Church music, Ferdinando and Giuseppe Camilleri. I was around Giuseppe from the age of 7, soon after the war years and used to find great pleasure in his services, whether with full orchestra and him on the organ and tenors and basses.
