The actual Michael Scofield would have used a microwave or just smashed the hard disk before throwing it at the river. Simply taking it out of the computer and throwing it at a river was a director mistake. Actually I believe throwing it in water is actually even worse than throwing it at the road or pavement. The files on the hard disk will remain in perfect condition. You won't be able to just connect the hard drive and get them because the chip will be damaged by the water, but the disk inside will probably not have a drop of water on it and a specialist can recover the files. I have noticed many similar mistakes in the show that someone with the inteligence and knowlege of Michael would never make, so I blame it on the directors. Some are excusable because Michael is not All-knowing and his specialty is stractural engineering. In the case of the drive maybe you can say that he didn't know much about computers, but considering he knows so many mind blowing things, it's unlikely he didnt know something as simple as how to effectively destroy the data from a hard drive.

This show was one in the world, I kept searching for years to find a show like this one, but I failed.

Season 2 is my favorite just for Mahone alone. His character development is just brilliant. Yes the character is written but William Fichtner brings him alive in way I bet the writers didn’t even think possible.
