    Why do you hold thing up to show how big they are... when there's a ruler on your mat? I know how big an inch is, but i have no idea how big your hand is.

    • @whitetailsurvival2430
      @whitetailsurvival2430 Před 3 dny

      I literally only do it to break the singular view up plus some people don’t know how to accurately decipher an inch out by seeing it plus there are some ways that showing it in your hand makes a huge difference. I could tell everyone that a Medford praetorian T is a 8 15/16 inch knife and a benchmade crooked river is alittle over a 9 3/8 inches. Judging just by the tape it seems like the benchmade is way bigger but in fact the Medford is a giant compared to it. There are multiple ways to look at things. I’m in the construction field so I agree measuring is ultimately the best way to see a size but some people want to see how big it is in hand even though that ruler is right in front of me!

    @JohnH-rd3xy Před 4 dny

    @JohnH-rd3xy 0 seconds ago I've actually bought that same kit over the past couple of years as gifts to the boys in the family. Three, maybe four times. Serious on this....five/six at a time. I always liked that kit. Still do! OK, critique: it has the basics knife, fire, and cordage. If you wanted to change or upgrade, work on those three first! Nice items, though. Next step is water purification and a container to use for water. Tablets, powders, or even iodine/betadine prep pads and a ziplock bag. Next step is coverage, nutrition, and signaling. The missing part in that is you putting a survival blanket on the back of the tin with rubber bands and adding a whistle. Nutrition wise, add a single packet of salt and one of sugar. Great vid, Brent! Enjoyed it!

      Thanks you I appreciate it and it’s good to see you back again watching and another comment! All the additional items you mentioned are excellent choices and that’s awesome you picked these up for family gifts. Esee makes good knives and this kit is all quality stuff. A survival blanket is always easy to add I always use two ranger bands. One on each end so it doesn’t snag going in my pack or pocket. They are hard to get on because of how sticky they are to the packaging but it also keeps them from slipping off. Thanks again see you on the next one!

      @@whitetailsurvival2430 Lol should be interesting I think the worst I've seen so far is the shade pocket capsule or the one that came in the handle of a Rambo #1 copy. It's cut down to only 13 inches and the kit came in a capsule. A mom bought for her son who was going to a survival school. I tried to convince her to get a real knife but no. Despite having to regrind it, the nut holding the blade to the handle kept coming loose. And you could see light through where it joined. I epoxied it in place then poured epoxy around it. The kit had three matches a strike pad so tiny it was useless the cut off ends of four matches that made me think. They were floats for the one fishing rig which had six feet of line. Not much else. I made a bag to fit on the handle and loaded it up with stuff proven to work plus medical. Then sealed it. I'd hate to be lost or hurt with just the gear they gave

      I put temporary hair dye in my daughters hair with no gloves on and it dyed my fingers and nails for about a week now it’s just the nails left pink now waiting for the rest of the dye to go away. I keep my nails short because nails are the dirtiest nastiest thing on the humans body. I work with my hands in all different situations in the construction industry so my fingers get dry and hooked on pointy stuff all the time I can’t handle the skin hanging so I pull it off. I don’t wear gloves or use lotion so it is what it is brother. I’m not a pampered dimepiece I don’t like girly long nails and I don’t work in an office so that doesn’t work for me. Wipe your ass in a portapotty one time and tell me you wanna keep your nails long. Work on one greasy project like an engine or tractor PTO and you would be disgusted seeing that grease for a month. It doesn’t matter what you do it doesn’t come out. Beyond that I see the wire saw becoming a problem in these kits half the people love them half the people hate them. That’s a great idea!

    Stop buying Chinese junk. Leatherman is a tried and true tool, which can be relied upon. Quantity never matches Quality and Craftsmanship. Industry has gone ‘ overseas’, but their quality has been shite. They would rather do more for the economy than make things that last. If you want to risk your life and survival on a knock off, go right ahead. I will pay for the quality and craftsmanship that gives me the reliability on which I can stake my life.

      For one, leatherman bit kits are not even made in the USA!!! Secondly, I have every single leatherman made except for about 15 of them. I have more leatherman products than everyone I know. I do not need schooled on American goods I buy a lot of American made gear. It’s impossible to buy everything made in the USA. If you’re that hardcore you better take all your clothes and throw them right in the garbage because they definitely are not made here. If you have a thermos or vacuum insulated cup just throw it away too definitely China. On another note these bits are harder than leatherman bits. Leatherman bit kit is honestly not that good quality but the tools require those specific bits. Also at this point in time they are very hard to find I have 3 bit sets, 1 partial and two full kits so I don’t need a set. This is a good option to replace your already overseas leatherman bit kit if you needed to in a pinch. If you haven’t watched any of my other videos my leatherman wave+ is my multitool I carry at work everyday. It’s nice to see pride about buying American and frustration about things going over seas and becoming cheap but there’s nothing you or I could single handedly do to stop people from buying the cheapest thing made. It’s also impossible for the USA to make products cheaper with our minimum wage and supporting all the bums the country that do nothing except collect money. If USA corporations were not so greedy we could make a lot of product here and sell it for a regular price but that’s not what happens!

      @@whitetailsurvival2430 Nextool is good, or at least good enough in my purview. I've had the pocket knife for almost 2 years now and the tension on the scissors are not only better than Victorinox's, but it still feels brand new. I also own the box multitool thingamajig and that's still in pretty decent shape after 6 months. Plus, I've heard nothing but good things about the Mini Sailor (though I've never really felt the need to get one). The E1 looks tempting, however. Even though half of Nextool's designs are iterative or stolen, I don't doubt these bits will last for a long time -- despite being made in China or wherever. They clearly got the manufacturing aspect right.

    Whenever I see one of these kits, I always do the Rulon-Gardner-test in my mind. Would Rulon still have all of his toes, if had one of those on his belt? I'd say yes to this kit. Add some of the items mentioned here (water bag, coffee filter, filter straw or purifier, ...) and with your regular EDC like a BIC lighter, a small flashlight, and a SAK you are good to go, without packing a ton of stuff. Don't need the fishing gear, but it's nice to have.

    One thing I’m a little surprised by in the kits that are including pencils (and especially decent sized stubs of pencils) is the lack of inclusion of a handheld/pocket pencil sharpener. Pencil shavings are a great readymade tinder and why a kit creator wouldn’t avail themselves of granting the customer that opportunity with a pocket sharpener when they’re already including a pencil stub is actually a little confusing to me. Also, if you score the pencil sharpener (the plasticized bit feeding up to the blade of the sharpener) with a blade and slightly loosen a screw on the blade of the sharpener, you also can make a diy cordage cutter if you should happen to find a plastic bottle or something that you can slice up for cordage.

    • @whitetailsurvival2430
      @whitetailsurvival2430 Před 7 dny

      A pencil sharpener is a good idea making tinder with one is awesome. I don’t necessarily need a pencil sharpener to sharpen a pencil though. I don’t keep a sharpener at work with me while cutting lumber and whatnot, if my pencil gets dull I simply sharpen it with my knife. I do think it would be a cool addition to the kit though! I do like the idea of using it as a cordage cutter! Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching I appreciate that a lot!
