Should This Bruce Lee Film Have Remained Unfinished?
The Game of Death is an incomplete Hong Kong martial arts film, of which portions were filmed between September and October 1972, directed, written, produced by and starring Bruce Lee. The project was paused to film and produce Enter the Dragon. For The Game of Death, over 120 minutes of footage was shot, which was later misplaced in the Golden Harvest archives. The remaining footage has since been released with Lee's original Cantonese and English dialogue, with John Little dubbing Lee's Hai Tien character as part of the documentary titled Bruce Lee: A Warrior's Journey. Much of the footage that was shot is from what was to be the climax of the film.

I think the whole subject of finished films after an actor, specifically the main actor, has passed is really interesting to me. I wonder if there’s any more you could investigate for videos like this. I knew of the Game of Death “situation” from a young age and remember that one really bad shot with Lee’s head stuck on the actor’s shoulder. But I don’t recall ever watching it. I presume there’s been fan edits since that do a much better job, what with modern technology. Flat out refuse to watch the Pink Panther films after the death of Sellers; though I did see the first Steve Martin film and I didn’t hate it as much as the critics. I’ve been told to avoid the sequel at all costs though.

I didn't mind either the Steven Martin Pink Panther or the Alan Arkin inspector clouseau film, though I agree Sellers is the GOAT in those film. I am sure there lots of other films that finished after the lead actors death, imaginarium of doctor parnassus was pretty good. Heath Ledger died during that.

Orson Welles also wrote The Other Side of the Wind with his lover/mistress Oja Kodar, it has some great writing and dialogue. The movie is IMO very good Welles movie, maybe not his absolute best but pretty high up there. I'll have to disagree with Simon Callow on Mr. Arkadin, it's not one of this stronger movies but it is not disaster or complete failure as he claims, there is some great ideas on it and the longest version of it is pretty good movie. It's just a shame that Welles never got to finish editing it before the producers took it from his hands. Not sure how reliable Callow really is when it comes to Welles, IIRC he for example said during some interview on Criterion's Othello blu-ray that Filming Othello was never finished, when in fact it was and it was shown in 1978 Berlin Film Festival and aired on West German TV who produced it.

Cheaply made horror films but I want to say they were at least trying when compared to Asylum. There's that age around 10-13 where these kinds of movies are cool. 9:20 I'd also say that crossing the line is less disorientating when the scene has clear geography. Jack is nearer to the stalls, the attendant is nearer to the sinks. They also have clear eyelines, which don't change between cuts. So the audience won't get confused when the camera jumps around. I often don't notice when Kubrick jumps the line, because his composition is so clean.

Unfortunately streaming is anything but magical because like you said movies or shows get removed because of licensing issues or movies and certain episodes of TV shows get heavily edited to the point where it ruins the movie or TV episode. Physical media will always have a special place in my heart and is the format I will always prefer since it was what I grew up with and I like the idea of having a collection.

I used to have a lot of time for Kermode. I first discovered him through The Fear of God documentary... God, he seemed so young in retrospect! I always enjoyed watching the various docs he did for the BBC and Channel 4 and thought of him as an authority on film, who could talk about genre cinema in a more thoughtful way than usual. Kermode and Mayo on FiveLive were a good "oil and water" double act at first, but they lost me when they went from trying to scrape a few minutes of coverage away from the likes of Wimbledon, to having a show in their own right. Maybe it was all down to the maxim "you can have too much of a good thing", but after a while the constant nods to Jason Isaacs and people emailing in to boast about their qualifications, gave the show a middle class, elitist attitude that didn't sit well with me and in retrospect, seems a tad hypocritical given Mark's obvious communist leanings... though to be fair, it was Mayo that really pushed that side of the show... Like I said, I haven't really been following Kermode & Mayo for a long time, but the former's more political leanings have always been there... they are just more pronounced than they were. I will admit to listening to those Sound of Freedom comments (the first time in a long time when I was genuinely interested in Mark's opinion) and found both of them smug and pathetic and lacking real substance as far as film criticism is concerned. As you said, they weren't reviews, just soap boxy political screeds the left usually accuses the right of doing.
