United States
Registrace 8. 09. 2016
I’m Chrissy from Southern IL and I’m a food grower, flower enthusiast, and farm owner at Up the Windy Lane nestled on a hill out in the country. I’ve been on this garden and farming journey for a long time it seems. I finished my architectural studies degree but didn’t do much with it after college. I now use it to create beauty in my garden and on the farm with flowers and food!
I remember gardening with my mother when I was little and canning with my grandmother. I love the memories I have of my grandmother, who has passed away, helping me can tomato juice and can blackberry jam as I started my own garden for my family
I want to live an intentional life. Showing my family where our food comes from has been a blessing! I hope to inspire you to grow more food and to try new things in the garden. Don’t forget to also be lovely lights today, wherever you are!

How long do flare ups last
@@billhollywood3809 it really depends on the person. 1-3 days is usually how long mine lasts.
How long should this last in fridge?
@@jennybaker5713 well…I would say a couple weeks but it’s been in ours longer 😬
Lassi!
@@learningto-cook thanks for watching!
@@chrissyholmes-upthewindyla8343 I was watching lassi recipes yesterday and today I found you. The jam in the bottom was what brought me here. It's a good idea for a fresh summer dessert
@@learningto-cook yes!! They are a hit so far.
Hi. What are the leaves good for?
@@Misty-nd4dp I’ve found that the leaf has a numbing effect as well as the flower. This is what google says though. I don’t think I would add them to my salad 😬 Leaves The leaves of the spilanthes plant are rich in minerals, vitamin C, and folic acid. They can be used for culinary purposes, such as adding shredded fresh leaves to salads in northern Brazil. Flowers The flowers of the spilanthes plant are pungent and contain spilanthol, which has antibacterial and antifungal properties. They can be chewed to numb the mouth, which can help relieve pain from gum and throat infections. The flowers can also be crushed and applied to toothaches. Other uses for the flowers include disinfecting wounds, treating canker sores, and treating ringworm
In all honesty with diverticulitis surgery is really the only option to have a decent life. The problem is they take out the affected area of the colon which is usually around 8 inches long they resect it. And sometimes you need a bag and then when the bag is taken away you need a second operation to do that
@@DaveOriginallyfromBrooklyn I would much prefer to eat healthy and keep my digestion flowing right than to have surgery.
Doctors will say that diet does not matter and it only matters during a flareup we were told by several doctors to eat nuts and seeds in abundance for the fiber that new evidence shows it doesn’t lead to diverticulitis well I disagree just like your trail mix activated everything I think nuts and seeds for years have been suspected and they have been right I don’t know where this new evidence is coming from I’d love to read the study because one study does not make a change in my opinion
I agree! I do eat nuts and seeds but not in great quantities. I try to space it out with other good fiber foods. I think it also depends on each person. Thanks for watching!
What is the shake your holding! The glare kept me from seeing it.

Best thing to take for a uti while pregnant?
I’m not sure about that. Do you have a health care practitioner you can ask? Or maybe a midwife that is local?
Yeah a no go on that. D-mannose was recommended
This was the best video I have watched and I hsve watched a FEW!
Thank you so much! And thanks for watching!!
So what you basically did was a healthy liquid diet. Ok. I can see that. Avoid red meat, and it will be good, thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching!! Working with your food is so much better than the antibiotics if possible.
Finally, half video, and you started with the meal replacement drinks, that’s what I was thinking to do.
The liquid diet and good nutrition usually helps me a lot. I haven’t had one in quite a while 🙌🏼
Get to the point what did you do?
I tell you in the video. Keep in mind this was a few years ago and a video from Facebook
Weren’t the antibiotics in a pill or capsules form so how could they be nasty, you swallow them whole .
I can still taste them sometimes and they make me feel bad.
The trouble it the gut and brain work in tandem, so stress is manifested in the brain, which needs to calm, so the gut gives the brain what it needs…..in a more complicated way than just that of course, but diets can affect how this exchange is carried out. (If you don’t have a gallbladder you need to eat (saturated) fats, in small quantities. Keep a food dairy and if something troubles you, remove it from your diet (how ever you love it, it’s got to go whilst you heal the gut). My Achilles heel is carbs, usually bread, which I don’t have often, but when I do know I’ve had it as my body screams at me and my intestines go on strike or overdrive. (I don’t eat pasta or rice anyway). Antibiotics are awful, and kill the good (as well as the bad) bacteria, so any natural alternatives are better, but it’s preventing rather than curing. Tinctures are good to help sooth the liver, kidneys and fermented foods help with dosing good bacteria after an AB treatment. I find 3 -6 types of fruit per day, 6-9 vegs (on cooked meals days which we have 4 -5 times a week, with a protein, salads (with fruit are amazing), plus Brie and other soft cheeses sooth the intestinal tract, and fish 2 times a week, plus a seafood lunch with salad twice a week, honey and limited caffeine, all help. Water (with or without lemon) is the best in any flare up days as it washes the tract, and cleanses it. Then gentle introduction of bland foods. Yogurt with live cultures and kefir are also useful. Keep away from any refined sugars, or food containing them and massage your stomach and intestinal area with lemon balm. All these can help keep IBS, diverticulitis, bloating and even crohn’s quiet. Home grown produce is best as it doesn’t contain any nasty chemicals and grass fed proteins…. But If you cant afford much, lamb is a sure thing as most sheep graze and don’t have any additional feed in their diet.
I too steep all my balm leaves (or flowers depending on what I’m making) in olive oil and place in a glass jar, pop the lid on, label it and sit it on sunny windowsill for a month. I then use a muslin cloth, to strain the oil into a glass jug sitting in hot water (not boiling water). After 5 mins add the beeswax-broken up into small pieces (smaller pieces allow the beeswax to melt asap as too much heating can affect the properties of the steeped plant oil), stir all the time, once melted I leave it for a few minutes, add any essential oils, stir and pour , stir and pour etc all it into small glass jars. It’s good to see how other do it, thank you.
I hope to do more this year! Thanks for sharing and watching!
Red light therapy 660/850, on the gut, Lactobicillus Casei (game changer), DMSO put on your stomach right on the location where the pain is, when you feel a twinge, amazing stuff. No carbonated anything, Some can't do seeds and nuts but some can, I personally stay away from them, why risk it?
Agreed. I think each persona is different and has different triggers. I didn’t think about red light. Good one! I do love a good probiotic for sure! I’ve not heard of using DMSO like that. Interesting! Do you have a study or link for that? Thanks for watching!
@@chrissyholmes-upthewindyla8343 no study and no link, you can Google the research yourself or do nothing and just suffer lol 😂
What is the shelf life of the oregano oil? Do you have to keep it refrigerated after straining?
Thanks for watching!! They usually last about 1 year on the shelf and 2-3 refrigerated. Always check the smell and make sure the oil hasn’t went rancid.
Hay que tener toda oa actitud
I drink a gallon of water a day, occasionally I’ll take a deep breath for a snack.
I've been suffering for years just had a colonoscopy and told I have diverticulitis. I just had a flare up such horrible pain left side pain and dead center near belly button. Feels like my stomach going to explode. Good idea about drinking a protein type shake I will try that for lunch I'm so terrified of getting that pain again every time it happens it's so horrible.thanks for the inflammation.
I imagine diverticulitis is very similar to pregnancy symptoms... but 10x severe. Hence, if I ever become pregnant (the first indictions will be nausea, headaches, fatigue, and cravings). If I have a flare-up; then, I'll know that the symptoms aren't pregnancy. Recently, I had a flare-up. And I'm now suffering from severe fatigue and these awful headaches. I had been diagnosed w/ diverticulitis when I was an undergraduate. I'm considered below my BMI... though, if I try to gain weight then I have flare- ups. When I stick to a primarily liquid diet (that usually helps to sustain my current weight); then, no flare-ups. So, being skinny is by choice but not entirely.... my flare-ups occur when I try to gain weight. I'm trying to gain 5-7 lbs as my partner thinks my weight is the reason for why we've not had a positive pregnancy test yet.... though, my body just won't allow for me to gain weight w/o horrible flare-ups. How does an underweight woman w/ diverticulitis naturally conceive? I know that even once I became pregnant; my diverticulitis will "kick my tush" throughout the pregnancy due to food cravings and GI, bowel complexities w/ the baby. So, adoption is sounding more realistic right now. Any advice is much appreciated! And thank you for the informative insight.
Thanks for watching! I’m not qualified to give advice for that for sure. I would definitely seek a qualified health provider to see if it’s a weight issue that is causing the not conceiving.
@jovabarris8789 Hi! I’m not at all qualified to diagnose anything. I’m not sure if you know this or not, but gut health can play a role in conception. It might be helpful to CZcams search conception and gut health or fertility and gut health… along with seeing a great doctor. Good luck!
@@GlamourGirl1045 Great reply! Thank you!

I thought comfrey multiply by having a bit of its root left behind. Most comfrey sold are sterile so the seeds won't germinate.

What does the comfrey and dandelion oil used for, I know you said as a salve, but for what ailment? Great video 👍 I learned a great amount of information!
Comfrey is good for the skin and helps with bruises, pulled muscles, sprains, strains. Dandelion is also great for the skin. It’s soothing and moisturizing.

Hi Chrissy, just found your channel. Your fig should come up from the ground as long as it was more than a year or two old. That's been our experience. We would cover our new fig trees the first winter to keep them alive in the very cold. (Even if it was young hopefully it will still come up) And for your allergies my husband has been taking fire cider every day and it has helped his allergies tremendously. Hope that helps.
They did come back last year so I’m guessing it’s going to be that they die off and come back each year. I love fire cider but it doesn’t help me with the polyps unfortunately.
And thanks for watching!! ❤️
Back in the day, lets say in my late teens and my twenties, every month just to announce to the world that it was my time of the month, ha, ha, I would get a wopper of a pimple on my face so I would take some broad leaf plantain score it on the back and place it on the pimple at night with a band aid and by morning it was gone. I mean gone. It worked gteat!!!😂😂😂😂
Wow! Thats awesome!! Thanks for the tip and for watching!!
I believe the USDA revised their hardiness zone map in 2023
I will have to look! I don’t feel like I’m in a warmer zone 😂
I had a mess when I got a perforated colon from diverticulitis and was in the hospital for 9 days in guarded condition. The IV antibiotics caused me to get C. diff. My gastroenterologist told me that whenever I need to take antibiotics for any reason to take 250 mg of saccaromyces twice a day. It's OTC where they sell the probiotics and it's a fungus. The antibiotics don't kill this fungus so it competes with the C.diff bacteria so I don't get a deadly growth of C.diff. The second time I had diverticulitis I was in the hospital for 5 days on IV antibiotics and I took the saccaromyces; no C.diff! My gastro also said that when the pain starts coming I should go on a colon rest; no food and only water. I've done this many times for 24 hours and it works! Best of everything to anyone that's ever been through this!
Actually u can damp the herbs first with vodka enough to get moist and soak overnight. Then u can add ur oil. That way u can save oil and ur In fuze will last longer bc0z of the vodka.
