    My cucumbers are being attacked. By what is unknown. I’ve searched for cucumber beetles and loop worms and haven’t found one. I have my cucumbers trellised and whatever is eating leaves and flowers is mostly attacking the leaves and flowers at the top of the 6 foot trellis. I am at a complete loss. Any clues what else it might be? Thanks. Also, they only seem to be attacking the Armenian cucumbers only

  • @gefluzafix

    according to my research on xylem an phloem of plants, the fact about the plants needing "rest" is a myth, what you should really focus on are three main aspects:: thermal output revelant to distance of plant to bulb - u can feel this out using your hand as all plants prefer tepid temperatures they amount of zylem and phoem(read as plant blood) in the plant body relative to the amount of nutrients and moistures drawable in the soil relative the to plants size of leaf - and what your adjusting here is the amount of time to put the plant to full intenstity grow light to dimmed grow light in alternation - a automatic slow phase medium swap time dimmer switch with adjustable variable nobs would be extremely usefull here and finally the loam soil and saturation of the soil itself, since 100% of plants are nitrate based youll want something thats rich in protean nitrogen and calcium to automatically balance as well as natural earth minerals, if u want to go ultra extreme i recommend fermented hotdogs, egg shells, and diatamaceous earth as very fine blended earth mix, but an approximation for far cheaper would be red indian clay, shell powder, and very expired meat such as very expired chicken liver{make sure to dry the liver or it will grow mold} and you can mix in normal fine soil

    • @gefluzafix
      @gefluzafix Před 14 dny

      this is because the pulling and pushing of the plants blood as the xylem moves towards the interactions is the actual source of the growth of the plants

    • @geekygreenhouse
      @geekygreenhouse Před 14 dny

      They do spread quickly in the right environment! You can also dig them up, store the bulbs, and then plant them in large pots next season to contain them.

  • @badassmother1426
    @badassmother1426 Před 14 dny

    I had them for 30 yrs, starting out w 1 bulb. After yrs of digging up 1000's of bulbs I got rid of every single one of them. Mine multiplied prolifically. I'm in Lincoln NE. These things look cool, but they took up more and more of my yard every yr, and then in the fall I had to make room for them to over winter. Definitely a good plant for someone w brown thumbs. The last year that I planted them, I had probably about 20 bulbs left not know where to put in my yard, I dug around the base of mature pine tree in heavy clay/packed limestone gravel, that use to be a gravel driveway. I didn't think they'd do well there because it's high + dry area, I ended up with 100 new bulbs from that one spot in the fall.

    • @geekygreenhouse
      @geekygreenhouse Před 14 dny

      Oh wow! Some varieties (including C.esculenta is considered invasive in certain areas), so growing them in pots will help contain them. Sounds like they do well in your climate!

    I'm not personally fond of cucumbers but I love butternut squash, which seems to have many of the same appearance and characteristics. I've so far used direct sow or just gotten volunteers (which have done better yet -- because they grew out of old compost and seem to love very rich soil). The only real problem I've had has been powdery mildew in late summer. Do you expect most cucumber tips carry over to squashes?

    I'm in zone 8b in east Texas and it's HOT. Been mid 90's to 100 every day. My cucumbers in large pots were dying and horribly wilting. The absolute easiest crop I've grown yet has to be green onions, just regrown from the cut off ends of store bought ones. After regrowing them in a jar of water for a bit and then planting them in ground, they took off! It's been a couple of years now and they're still going strong, reseeding themselves and even giving me a small harvest of little white onion bulbs this summer! I disagree with peppers being one of the easiest crops to grow, at least they haven't been for me 😅 I think the main reason is how easily they are damaged by too much direct sun. Maybe it's easier after a few years of fine tuning, or depending on your climate, but not really the most fool proof for a beginner in harsher summer zones.
