A Night at a Traditional Yakitori Joint in Tokyo
Tokyo, a city that pulses with energy, where every alleyway tells a story, and every meal is an experience. Tucked away in the neon-lit labyrinth of this sprawling metropolis lies a culinary tradition that’s as simple as it is profound-Yakitori.
In this video, I dive deep into the heart of Tokyo's food culture at a traditional Yakitori restaurant, where every skewer is a testament to the art of grilling. Forget the sushi and ramen for a moment-this is where the locals go when they crave something real, something with history.
Yakitori, literally translating to “grilled chicken,” is a time-honored tradition that dates back centuries, originally born out of the need to use every part of the bird. It’s a humble dish, but don’t be fooled-what you’ll find here is nothing short of extraordinary.
I start with the chicken heart-chewy, earthy, and full of flavor that hits you right in the soul. Then, the chicken skin-crispy, golden, a perfect balance of fat and salt that’s pure indulgence. The chicken liver is rich, creamy, with a slight bitterness that’s beautifully offset by the smoky char of the grill. And finally, the pork belly-fatty, juicy, and utterly irresistible.
Each bite is a journey, a direct connection to the roots of Japanese cuisine. The grill masters here are artisans, treating each skewer with the reverence it deserves. This isn’t fast food-it’s a ritual, a celebration of simplicity and flavor, and an absolute must-visit when you come to Japan.
So, if you’re looking to experience Tokyo beyond the tourist spots, pull up a stool at a Yakitori joint. Order a cold beer, sit back, and let the smoke and sizzle of the grill take you on a journey through Japan’s culinary history.

Im that generation you skipped...gen X We got a few ppl that hilariously point out the facts of us growing up, and we may be that link to connect your answer.... IMO: We got beat for being dumb, yet we can't even ground our kids for being DUMER-ER! We weren't allowed to come home until the street lights came on, if you did, you better have a good reason, (or else...) yet "our kids" never ever go outside. "We" hand them our phone or tablet [not to deal with their dumb a$$es] (since we can't beat them) Now, us, gen X...cannot go to our parents for advice, cause they'll just look at us (like: don't be dumb, figure it out) and we nod and run home, still filled with trauma from getting beat...so we have no one older than us to get advice from...no one to "help us" and im an only child with no children who was never close to my (immediate) family, never even knowing my g-ma or g-pa due to them passing before I was born, so I may be way off here, but this is my guess. "We" [gen x] cannot ask anyone for help. If we get together for holidays, we are judged, with one eyebrow raised as our parents observe us pampering junior, who's glued to a tablet, thinking he's something he's not (gender, species, what have you...) So we don't. We just don't. We don't want that feeling of bring judged from our over-judging parents... Am I wrong? I am not trying to upset anyone, like I said, this is my OPINION...but it makes the most sense to me......

ALL THE TIME! I've been travelling solo around the globe as a female for 18 years and that is still an issue to this day, wherever I go. "Where is your husband? Why don't you have kids? You should be home with your family! I'll accompany you, it's not safe for you without a man!" Added to that the number of marriage proposals and constant harrassing. I even had to wear a fake wedding ring in some places. Hell, my father told me to accept at one point so he could fullfill his dream of having a farm of 120 cows somewhere in South Africa 😅 (it was supposedly my worth as a big white canadian woman according to a guy I worked with there at the time). Well, I now know my worth in cows, goats, camels and of course money in different countries in Africa and Asia 😂

Yeah, in the modern era, we've completely dismantled communities because "rules" and "expectations" are considered bad things nowadays and so no one is growing up with rules, standards and expectations. It's all "do what you want, live how you want, be whatever you want" even if what you want is bad for you and therefore your surroundings and society at large. Growing up without community means no stability, no structure, no guard rails, discipline, mentorship, guidance, support, backing, community investment into you and no one pushing you and helping you grow as a person and catching you when you fall/helping you back up. Which is why young people now are less cognitively developed and have barely started climbing through the levels of consciousness. Most people now are habitually stuck on the "me" stage of consciousness because they lack the tools and societal norms and communities their ancestors had to develop and mature as people, meaning young people are stuck with developmental arrest. Which is why society is collapsing.

In '71, Nixon took the gold standard away from the American dollar. Besides this, Conservative values became corrupted by the ultra-religious and the greedy. Liberal politics had similar issues, but more in line with social issues. That pattern kept on into the 80s with Trickle Down economics/Reaganomics(The trickle down only happened for the wealthy). The Middle Class were little by little, shut out until Democrat policies hit. But they BOTH had corruption. The 80s era of excess, Greed Is Good philosophy harmed many of us. It turned many people's families into selfish people. Who used retail therapy, tech, drugs and other things as coping mechanisms. My family were/are semi-super close only because my mom's job afforded us less expensive plane tickets to see family. But we're nowadays all spread out. I left Georgia for Oregon 10 yrs ago, but keep in touch with family and friends online or through phone calls. Money culture and tech advancement has always had a hand in these changes, historically. The only way to change it is to lessen dependency on tech versus more social outings and touching grass. Moderation and communication is key!

Some were, sure. But I guarantee you, most just wore the uniform and badge to impress others. The politics and socioeconomics have shown we'd rather be godless and selfish rather than actually help fellow human beings and live the word. We keep going to war. We keep people poor and hungry. We allow some children to flourish and others to die. We stop educating and start indoctrinating them as well. We brutalize women. Still dictate the pace of success for minorities. We're not humane. If there's a God, we've strayed away in some ways. Sure. But there are those of us who see what's been happening for decades and a century or more. Until we try harder to actualize being humane, this stuff will repeat.

I don't know what the silent generation is like I didn't have much contact with my grandparents. I really don't know but all I know is that I see a lot of families where their children moved away after college. People move to where the jobs are. And families have long distance relationships over zoom. Will they see each other once or twice a year during a vacation if their wealthier. In America many families don't live close to each other anymore.

Grew up in great times that turned into new age, selfish, unsocial times😒....i sould like a 80 yr old woman talking to my daughter about "back in the day" 😂 never thought id sound like that, but im constantly saying, "well when we were young we used to..", or "when we were growing up...", or "back in the good days...." 🤦🏼‍♀️😆 But i also explain to her how the world is today and how much different it is with phones n interent and the political world, she hates when i bring up politics constantly, but its so scary out there right now, you truly do have to really keep an eye on you're kids when they leave the house! Its terrifying letting a 13yr old go with their friends, with all these illegals here, graping n murdering kids, taking over entire parts of cities! I mean, its nothing like it used to be, and its true! Nobody sticks up for others when they're being attacked on the streets, they just stand there n pull out their phones n record it! The way people think these days is horrifying! I also think a lot of it had to do with what we watched as kids! I watch 90s cartoonz n was raised on All in the Family n Little House on The Prairie, etc, FAMILY SHOWS! Taught you how to be a decent mother n father n the kids were way more mature, even myself growing up, at 8yrs old than most of these 20 year olds!! It absolutley does have to do with programming, shows they put out there now, certain narratives, lgbtq bs, everything is sexualized to extremes, anti social, awkwardness, selfishness, the govt hating us and teaching kids to hate eachother and family and their own country! Poisoning us with foods and water, air....times have changed! But i do see many many ppl waking up! Waking up that the media lies everyday to your face, that the govt hates us, they dont want us to reporduce and have family, globalists want straight up depopulation down to 1 billion ppl, or less! We have terrible ppl running the world right now, wanting a 1 world govt, seeing us as ants below them theat they want to enslave and make them money n give them power and thats it! Govt became too many ppls daddy! This has all been slowly happening since like 1913 and up, but really took a change in the 60s n then jusy exploded within the past 30-25 years! Definiteky since Obama took office...2008 everything became completely backwards, and continues to! But like i said, a movement is happening to get back to family and get our country back! Hopefully we can...or this country is done for and we will turn into a 3rd world country that we never knew America would become...🥺

Europe has the most amazing seafood. I grew up on North coast of a peninsula in Europe. We have a microclimate due to the passage of the gulf stream current crossing at the end of the peninsula. The mix of very warm and very cold water is what creates this unique environment . There are species that are unique in the world there due to the microclimate. Seafood, plancton etc, unique and the most refined and delicious tasting. Also very expensive......

Your talk about family dynamics changing really spoke to me, you are so right. Ive noticed it in my family and observed it in other families too. You are exactly right, so now how does one go about changing this back into the old style supportive family. Obviously you can shout it from the hill tops but at the end of the day its going to take time and alot of attention
