Finally Visiting One Of The Most Iconic Ghost Towns | Ruby, Arizona
This one has been on my list for a longtime. Located just five miles north of the US-Mexico border, this historic boom town has a lot to offer. Worked from the 1870s to 1941, Ruby was once called home by 1200 residents who lived and worked in the hills surrounding town. Today, the well preserved town has 25 buildings to check out and is frequently ranked among the best remaining ghost towns in Arizona and the Southwest.

    Cool video. I grew up on our family ranch just a few miles from the North east end of the White Tanks, between Greenway and Bell Roads.. Those mountains were my play ground for a couple decades before the put in the park and all the growth closed much of the mountains down. I used to know them like the back of my hand, as well as dozens of old mine shafts. Great memories. Thank you for the video.

    Didn’t you watch the video at the prison? The legislature didn’t think Yuma was where it should build the prison instead they wanted it in phoenix. They retired for lunch and the representative from Yuma penciled in Yuma. When they came back, they approved it without reviewing it.

    Riding my ATV along these canyons after a storm & flash floods I have found MANY destroyed campsites with sleeping bags and tents 10' up in trees, lots of coolers and gear scattered everywhere. I can only hope the people got out ok and just lost all their gear. Costly lesson. I can't stress this enough people....IF THERE IS ANY, ANY, ANY CHANCE OF RAIN DO NOT CAMP ALONG CREEKS OR IN DRAINAGE'S. AND IT MAY BE NOT RAINING WHERE YOU ARE BUT CAN BE MILES AWAY UP HILL FROM YOU!

    I'm glad I live in Gila county and don't have to mess with that again. I lived in Phoenix in the late 80's and had to deal with it. I had a car that failed twice (was really close though) at different testing stations, for the third time I went to a new testing station and made sure to run the fuel level down to a few gallons of gas (very low) and added around 10 bottles of HEET Gas-Line Antifreeze and Water remover which is pretty much pure alcohol which burns EXTREMELY clean. The guy ran the test and although it was a 1972 Duster with a 318 he said it had numbers better than a lot of new cars. NOT that I would condone such behavior but I was young, poor and needed a car! I would hate to think how my ride now would fare through a emissions test. It a 1993 K2500 Suburban with a 454 engine...Runs gresat so it may do ok.

    This is a very well done video and documentary. My father was a water well driller from the 1940's-1970's. I can remember that he took myself and two brothers with him when he went to visit someone who lived in Ruby. The man and my father talked for many hours about a possible well drilling job somewhere in the area. My older brother was allowed in the house for the meeting but myself and younger brother had hours to roam around while we were waiting. The potential client lived in an adobe building and came outside when we left. He walked with a cane and had a white beard with a cowboy type hat. At that time that type of visit was very normal for us so I didn't think it was anything unusual. Again great video.

    Don't wear warm clothes because it is a hard hike underground, and you will quickly overheat. Needing extra lights is no joke. It is pitch black in there, and it takes a long time to hike over the uneven floor. You will need your hands from time to time, so multiple headlamps is a really good idea. Make sure all your lights have fresh batteries before you start.

  • @cq7415
    @cq7415 Před 3 měsíci

    Scotty…..another fantastic video. I grew up in Prescott in the 1950’s & mid 1960’s and love northern Arizona. All your series of this area are fantastic. The forests are so unique and beautiful. The last time I was on this road was 1984 and you did not show this but maybe 40 years later it has changed. Then….you could still see the actual Crook road on the inside curves of the forest road with the wagon ruts… in many places. I think the Boy Scouts sorta maintained the original segments at that time. I have the original 1800’s first printing books written by the soldier officers who were actually in the Apache wars such as Lt Bourke, etc. He tells that on a march across the Crook trail back then there was four feet of snow on the rim trail. Can you imagine crossing that with horses and some wagons in snow that deep! Also, if you would have gone down the tunnel trail a little lower you could have seen the original military trail where they built up the trail sides with rock to make the trail wider and smoother. I have photos of that with photos of the original military road that I described earlier. I love reading the firsthand accounts of the Apache wars written by the soldiers that fought and traveled fighting in the Apaches. I do not go for the rewritten accounts as they are not accurate. Maybe things have changed in 40 years about this area. Your videos are superb! Thanks for sharing.
