    I've had the katana 50 for over 3 years now, but never upgraded it. Finally ordered the cable needed and did it tonight. Tone Studio and all. It's really made it a better sounding amp. I can't wait to crank it up tomorrow. It's 11 at night here. That four button pedal looks interesting and the speaker change as well. Thank you for your insight. It was super helpful.

      The Katana MKI's are a great overall amp, Boss hit it out of the park with it! the MKII's are nice, and I scored one for a crazy price last summer, but the MKI's are certainly not slumming it in any way, and are still a simply perfect all in one amp as well as a pedal platform. The footswitch does make a difference tho, allowing for better access for all of your saved tones. Thanks for watching!!!

    Thanks for the kind words! This guitar was wonderful to work on, it was fantastic right out of the box. We dialed in the bridge and nut perfectly. Chris is a great customer because he understands the relationship between low action and potential buzzzzz, so he'll take the action where it needs to be that minimizes interference...especially here in New England where the humidity levels vary wildly from month-to-month. The mods Chris has added to this guitar has made it something special. Like he said the pickups are excellent as is, but I love fishing through the bridge pickup hole and the f-hole...bring it on! This guitar is only going to get better and better with age. Cheers -AF

    Little bit late to the party, just stumbled across your channel. Have you found yourself the appropriate 375 yet? If so disregard this post. If not, I just so happen to have the very 375 color/config you seek, red w/maple fretboard, body is 99.9% perfect with literally 1 small ding, no cracks in the neck pocket, no chips or dings in neck or head, with a probably 60 out of 100 condition monogramed Charvel factory hard case. The only down sides are these, 1 missing the original tremolo BAR, but the bridge is complete otherwise. 2 it is missing the plastic back plate that would cover the tremelo tension springs, but most of the tiny screws are present, 3 there is minor wear on the fretboard, the clear coat between frets shows that it has been loved, has no effect on comfort or playability. and 4 lastly the humbucker is not original yrs ago i swapped it for a more aggressive Seymour/Duncan. The guitar is a plug in and play immediately piece, I have had it many years but did not aquire it new from the store, as in your story I still have my 88-3DR that worked for months to afford. I love the 375 but after hearing your tale which closely mirrors my 3DR tale i thought hard about possibly selling or trading it, to YOU only, if anyone else reads this, it is a singular offer to the namesake of this channel only so please do not attempt to convince me I should extend this offer to anyone other. 15:50 - Locking tuners? I’ve had my 620 JG for many years now and I still love it. Except for when it comes time to change strings. But it’s nothing to do with the tuners: The Rickenbacker “R” tailpiece has no holes to pass the strings through, it just sort of grips the bobbins. Meaning the strings can pop off very easily until there’s some tension on them. It’s a design flaw, but you get used to it. Cheers.

    Nice. I love Rickenbackers, the look, the sound and craft. They Are just great guitars. I just recently bougth a 660-12 Blue metallic from Thunder road Guitars in Portland. Expectations were High, and when i got it it exceeded my expectations. What a beauty of a guitar. It sounds incredible and the craftmanship is outstanding. I have Fender strat, and Tele, and a Rick 330 6 Black jetglo. The 660-12 is just my favorite. Its just a piece of art for me. I know some people dont like Ricks, and thats ok. For me its fantastic. Ricks are just so spesial and the sound is so special. I am so happy and satisfied with my 660-12. yes they Are expensive, but worth it. I was searching the web for a 660-12 for a year and could not find any for sale Except for the 660-12 Petty signature model, but that is too expensive for me Even though inwould not mind having one😊 dont think Ricks Are suitable for a heavier Kind of music, but for anything else it works great. Just find the right settings and sound and it fits just perfect. Thor from Norway.

    Do you have problems getting the board to fit in the case with the Lift?

    • @6stringworld
      @6stringworld Před 5 měsíci

      With pedals on the lift, it's a super tight squeeze in the gig bag. I used to have a hard case for previous Pedaltrain boards, and I know it would not fit in their hard cases. I usually bring the extra pedals to the gig in a separate bag, and wire them up at the gig/practice. I use the lift as an extra optional location to add pedals per gig, so it does work in that sense. Regarding the new PRS satin sku - It has a full size alpha pot as the volume pot, and a quality dual pot for the push pull, also a full size trem block, which is molded steel. The pups are great, but I swapped out the cheaper, though full size Trem block for a solid brass one I snagged on Amazon for $30. I warmed up the tone to vintage area. The guitar with the thin finish is more resonant than my American HSS strat with a poly finish. Some people like the bing of the expensive PRS finishes, but this guitar is better in some aspects. The fretwork on mine was excellent. You could add a plek job from sweetwater for $299 and have a guitar that plays like a $5k guitar, just with a satin finish, which I personally like better than the gloss fancy finishes

    Just yesterday I spent some time with one the new SE CE24 Standards (red). Gotta say, it is the best $500 expenditure a person can make! Last year I cut my collection back to two guitars-- one of them is a 2022 USA made CE24 that has been a pure joy to play. This new SE captures a bit of that vibe, but honestly it's its own thing (in a good way). Purely from a playing standpoint, this new SE is a better buy than any of the overseas guitars (and frankly some US made). Nothing on this guitar 'needs' to be swapped out, and on the specific one I played there's no need to pay for a setup. That right there saves you a good bit of money over the competition. Compared to the Epiphone "Greeny", the PRS kills it in terms of sound, feel and quality (and at 1/3 the price). If your kids want to start playing, this SE and a 50W Boss Katana will keep them happily playing for years to come. Sure wish this was available when I was starting out 40-years ago! For the rest of us, it's the perfect guitar for the rehearsal space, the couch, as a backup to your #1... it can do it all-- and for $500, yep-- it's a no-brainer! BTW, the bird inlays on the SE are fancier than those on the US version-- bonus!! :D

    • @monahantp3767
      @monahantp3767 Před 5 měsíci

      @@cross-hairz800 The nut was cut very nicely, no tuning issues at the first fret, intonation was spot on and the tuning stability was fine-- though I use the trem for subtle changes to pitch and didn't try dive bombs, so... The tuning keys felt just like those on the SE Custom 24; solid, non locking. As a side note, I have my Core DGT & CE24 strung with 8s... so 9s wouldn't give you any trouble (so long as it's strung properly).

    Glad to see Alex with another signature model, but that price is way too much. For that kind of dough I'd rather have a PRS Studio which hits all the right notes ;) for me: 25" scale, HSS pickup config (mostly), thicker than "C-shape" neck, fantastic trem, and excellent build quality. Plus, the PRS is far more beautiful :D Though if I had to stay within the "bolt-on" recipe, I'd go PRS CE24: humbuckers with coil splits, super slick neck, light weight, rosewood fingerboard, with the PRS build... See-- I keep talking myself out of a new guitar LOL! Sure doubt Godin will be producing many of these, but I'd love to see one in person~

    • @6stringworld
      @6stringworld Před 6 měsíci

      I'm right there with ya, A $4k budget opens up alot of nice guitars to choose from, but a bolt on parts caster (for what it is) doesnt make sense. Your CE24 concept makes sense, as alex playted CE's for a few years and you could easily get a PRS S2 Standard 22 satin and mod it to "hentor" SSH specs for less. If you really wanted something close to the strat scale, modding a SE Silversky to the SSH hentor configuration, you'd be in the ballpark for way less..As you mentioned, I too would like to see one of the Godin's out in the wild and see what the dealio is. It was an easy build with parts, and up until the introduction of the Vega trem, I had a fender stock bridge on it. So I spent the 250 bucks, dropped the Vega trem in and it kicks ass for far far less then what Godin is trying to squeeze out of you. January 2024 has just given way to February as I comment. Since last summer, I’ve been meditating on purchasing a GT-1000 Core as my next amp-modeling device. Since September 2018, my principal modeler has been a different Boss unit, the ME-80, and my compacted multi-effects generator is Zoom B1X-4. The appeal of getting this unit would be not only that it can provide me with every single amp and effect that I might possibly want in my arsenal but also potentially help me overcome my dependence on my current stomp box distortion (the Goat Generator from a Japanese manufacturer called Rancher). That pedal is meant to emulate the Boston electric guitar sound, something which I might have achieved with my ME-80 if I had more access to different parameters in a couple of the stump features. What would be neat is if Boss created a rendition of their expression pedals that paired two of them together in the same unit as with the PS-7. That would make a great expansion without having to use external MIDI controllers for the same purpose.

    • @6stringworld
      @6stringworld Před 6 měsíci

      It certainly is a powerhouse unit, but with the release of the IR-2 and IR-200, those units open up some more options without having to commit to a complete all in one box.. since you’re after the Boston sound, have you tried the GOAT pedal?

    • @Shred_The_Weapon
      @Shred_The_Weapon Před 6 měsíci

      I have it, @@6stringworld, and it’s awesome. The goal would be to be able to at least approximate if not duplicate it sound inside the main frame of this unit without needing to place the pedal the effects send, but I would be willing to do that if necessary.

    Great video! Hep-- another life-long Rush fan here. My favorite era? The early stuff; everything up till the Exit Stage Left album. REALLY enjoy the 80s-90s era, and I'm only now getting familiar with the 2000s stuff (life kind of got in the way of "new" music there for a while). Signature brand guitars: yep, remember those too. Had a chance to buy one, but I didn't like the unique body shape, so I didn't pursue it. Artist signature guitars: Not really a fan. I wouldn't buy one just because of the association with an artist (though, in years past I did fall into a Van Halen rabbit hole, but that's another story). However, my #1 guitar today is a US made PRS DGT. Mainly because it has the features I was looking for-- chunky, but not huge neck shape, twin humbuckers, coil splits that sound good, volume control for each pickup, and I really like that the unique control wiring. There are a few tweaks I'm going to make to it, and swap the truss rod cover for something else (maybe the PRS "Custom" version) to disassociate the guitar from its artist namesake. Dave is a great player and all, but I'd just rather not have a signature guitar. I know, I'm not normal :) BTW, LOVE that your videos are very down to earth, without all the high gloss, over polished presentation that tends to be the norm. Just a regular guy who loves guitars-- brilliant! :D Oh, almost forgot; I got to see Rush live only once back in 1991 or 1992 (I think) during the Roll The Bones tour in St. Louis, MO. What I remember: had a great time, it was in the old "barn" (St. Louis Arena built in 1929) traffic was terrible, ears still ringing the next day, the songs were mostly the 80s/90s stuff, and they did an encore melody with 2112 and some of the old tunes, the t-shirt I wanted was sold out, the beer was great (loved that old arena), my friends teased me for liking the band, the general vibe of the audience was just fantastic... That's what comes to mind ;)

    Installing a system like I described is pretty easy even if you have to enlarge the endpin hole. Most often you don’t need to do it since there’s already a hole large enough for the jack. Just use a step drill bit to make an existing hole bigger. And you should find a better store that is more accommodating to your instrument needs. If I was a store owner I would take care of my customers regardless of where your instrument came from.

    Just picked one of these up super cheap. I’ve also owned a couple Enya instruments and liked them ok, but for whatever reason I just didn’t connect with them well enough to keep them long term. We’ll have to see about this one. Great in-depth review and heads’ up about the action and relief!

      @@6stringworld yeah it’s due to be here in a couple days, kinda excited and kinda nervous lol. Read that some folks have had issues with the top deflecting quite a bit tuned to standard. Apparently the bracing is questionable for some. We shall see…I will report back. Oh yea-new sub! I dig your channel so far. Thanks again!

      @@6stringworld it came tonight! Before tuning it up since the strings were already loose I removed the one shim under the bridge, no buzzing and no neck adjustments needed. Action is beautiful, the guitar is pretty well built but did you notice yours makes some creaking noises? Mine does but no biggie as they aren’t audible when playing. I love the stock strings, the soft case is much more a case than a standard gigbag, and I love the lightweight. It plays and sounds like a dream, I noticed very bassy when not using a pick but it brightens up with pick. Either way. I am extremely impressed and feel lucky I got it for about $400 off! It’s probably one of my favorites now. Only one complaint is the tuners…even after tightening them up, they made me lol. It was your video that helped shed some light on what to expect, so thank you again!! New sub. Please keep up the good work.

      Very detailed review on this Donner. Thank you for sharing your experience. The truss rod adjustment and removing the saddle shims are both easy and quick to do so that doesn’t alarm me. I would definitely upgrade the tuners though. LR Baggs is releasing a new HiFi Duet preamp at the winter NAAM show next week. It would be great to install it in the Donner. It doesn’t use a piezo so it won’t have any annoying quack sound. I don’t know what the cost is going to be yet. 👍

    I bought one on impulse a few weeks ago because I got an unheard of deal on it, and I can't decide if I like it or not. It's very well made and the action is crazy low, but I just can't get used to the thick honking neck on it.

      necks are subjective items, certainly a your mileage may vary situation,. dig the neck on the SE Silversky, but I can see it not getting along with some players. if you decide to return it, or sell it, I hope you dont take a big loss on it. Good luck, and thanks for watching.

    Great review and been playing mine 3 hours/day since I got it. I was cautiously optimistic since I committed to wider-at-nut necks since '09 as I played just Strats thru the '90s and most of 2000 thru '08. I found myslef struggling more and more to where even my SRV Strat left me fighting the guitar more than playing it! This SE Silver Sjy is a happy massive surprise.....I bonded immediately. The "C" shape w/ a 8.5" radius vs. the "U" shape of the SRV at 12.5" may be part of it. The other is that the thickness is really comfortable at around .850" thick at the 1st fret and 1.00" thick at the 12th...... really close to my '14 Gibson LP. Great tone and awesome build quality. It really works well w/ my playing and my fingers don't feel cramped.

    Most of the time the core models are better for investment but the se will play better cause it’s basically the core striped down core are usually too heavy from all the lacquer but you my friend forgot like others doing reviews you didn’t mention the thick block on the bridge that is one reason this guitar is so solid but good review I agree with your assessments. If it’s not overly mass produced they will go fast. They are that good.

      @6stringworld From what I read he got the black ce 24 right away that was his first one I think. I guess his guitar tech had to make some changes to it. They took the bridge pickup out and put a single coil and sustainer in I think. Then he pretty much got into the whole line of them. Prs really took off seem like around that time I think. Santans was playing one. Seemed like everybody was getting one. Paul was pretty busy around that time but he and Alex did do some work together. It was a interview with him and Paul couple of years ago and Paul told Alex he wanted to thank him for helping him get started back in the day, he had never thanked him before as always Alex was very gracious in him acknowledging him. First PRS I seen and it looked like the CE style was Ted Nugent. I think he had one made up like Zack Wilds Gibson with the Target. I've owned a CE 24. Maaaaan, it's hard to think that a guitar would feel that much better then there SE models, but they do!! Nicest guitar I've had in my hands. I'm getting old and my memory doesn't serve me as we as it use to but I think everything I've put down here is accurate but to be 100% don't quote me for sure. Better proof. My mind slips sometimes.

      @6stringworld 2018 whale blue. You might be interested have you haven't seen it already. Lifeson sold all his guitars at auction for a charity. The white Gibson brought the high dollar, I think it was over 300 thousand but they all brought in big bucks. The black PRS, the crimson Gibson. All his stage guitar from the rush days he let go. There's a program online that list the items and a book as well that showed what everything brought. If you haven't already. Check it out. It was just guitars, loads of rush stuff!!

    from all the reviews i watched. Its got a lot of pros. The cons are it gets out of tune easily without locking tuners, the single coil switches breakdown, if you plan on getting a heavier gauge string it will require some nut and tension setup. im am in a santana tribute but actually prefer the playability and tone of this over the santana se. i may buy 9.5 or 10 guage to thicken the sound more.

    • @6stringworld
      @6stringworld Před 10 měsíci

      The SE models are always a good starting point for players that are experienced (like you apparently are) to tweak and adjust to their tastes. I put locking tuners on my SE277 Baritone as an upgrade. You're correct in changing string gauges means things like adjusting the relief, the nut and the trem springs, but thankfully these changes as well as the ones you mentioned, can help hone a great instrument into being a better one. The Cons are there, but they can be worked out, and the cost to do so, is still far cheaper than a USA core model. Thanks for watching!

      Yeah there were a few bad reviews here and there on the alex lifeson epiphones, especially the early ones it seems. However If a customer played one before purchasing, they would notice any issues when trying it out. Customers that purchased ones from on-line retailers, should have at least had a 30 day return policy to turn to and send the instrument back to them with no problems. I have yet to meet a casual Rush fan myself, so you're in good company there as well..Thanks for the kind words, and thanks for watching!

    To me the trick of getting a good slightly breaking clean tone is using the boost just a little. I use it as a one channel amp with pedals and for me it works fantastic. Also another option for a good clean sound is using the crunch channel with very low gain. It's ok for singles coils, but for humbuckers it's too much (in my opinion)

    • @6stringworld
      @6stringworld Před 10 měsíci

      Those are some pretty cool paths to use this amp! I'm finding talking to players that use a Katana there are alot more options of how to get great tones in way I wouldn't have thought of. for example; I found using the clean tone with the gain cranked with a boost is a great dirty rhythm tone that still has articulation and cleans up by rolling back the guitar's volume control! Thanks for the suggestion and thanks for watching!
