Not sure what you pay for kerosene over there , but here where I live, 20litres costs $98-$99.00+/- diesel costs $1.70-$1.98/litre which equates to around $39-$40 AUD. I'd love to run my diesel heater on kerosene but as you can see it doesn't work out so good if what you save on fuel economy is lost on fuel expense. Since the Covid#19 Virus prices have seriously gone through the roof. Cheers Mate

I got a short wheelbase peugeot expert nice size van no side windows, i often park in side roads nobody takes any notice of it without windows, also a good place to park are outside car dealerships, lots of them on industrial estates you just blend in even better if their are truckers parked up for the night.

For sound proofing and isulation i used 3mm under floor insulation the type you put under wood flooring, used spray glue to stick it to the walls and roof it makes a real difference, also got a small portable power bank, charge it before i leave home or from the fag lighter socket, it provides light charges my tablet and phone and powers a 12volt electric blanket nice and warm on cold nights. 😊

I'm trekking in the Himalayas at the moment.. every place I stop they boil their water using the exhaust from fire unit they use to heat the room

put the tube in the top, make a coiled tube inside that spirals down to the bottom. add a nice big chunk of zinc into the tube to catch the corrosion. The coil starting at the top and going down will let the moisture have a path to exit the tank. Then when you have the air tight spiral coil inside the tank all set up, fill the tank with water and another chunk of zinc to stop corrosion. Water has a much higher specific heat than sand does.

May I ask, wouldn't a heat shield be easy to put in. Like even a tinfoil container from your local chinese and a small bit of fibre glass from your attic insulation. Duck tape it and call it a day.

ALWAYS plug those heaters on a battery - the board will sense when the battery become low and will initiate cool down before battery is completely dead - and prevent overheating the heater and the fuel tank

put a few lines of painters tape on the gas bottle so your laser thermometer can get a reading. the surface of the gas bottle is to shiny and your thermometer needs a non reflective surface to get an accurate reading. also if you put a sheet of copper all the way to the bottom of the sand and to the top. you can get a thermo electric fan used for fireplaces to help circulate the heat might take a few days to heat that amount of sand.

If you want to boost the storage capacity, could pour water or melted wax into the sand. More mass is more heat stored of course, but at a lower temp so even more heat extracted from the exhaust. Wax is especially nice since it should be capable of storing a big amount of phase change heat; keeping the wall of the exhaust colder for a longer time, and releasing the heat at a nice even temperature so it will also output a relatively equal amount of power over time.

Why do i enjoy more lolking at these nice older cars ? Then all the new shit Electric out there ? 🙄🙄.. Because older cars arr much more SIMPLE to repair and not full of all this tech crap! Would love to go back to the 80's and 90's again.. so many nice cars from that era.

Best solution I have seen for this is to put a stainless steel radiator into a box of sand and have the exhaust run through that. You are going to get corrosion issues using a gas bottle as it is made from steel and the condensate in the exhaust is quite corrosive.

You could probably take tis a major step forward and use a radiant heater , the type you normally use with a pumped hot water system but without any water in it, and just pump the exhaust in the bottom and out of the top as the heating panel area in tis heaters is quite large........with that you could use a number of panels in series and vent the final fumes outside.

23 degrees is well below body temperature. There is either something wrong with your temperature gun, or, in the words of Steve Jobs, "You're holding it wrong." Try holding the gun up close to the thing you are measuring. The laser doesn't measure the temperature, it just shows you what you're pointing at. It's not a spot measure, it's an area measure. The further you are from the target, the bigger the area it's measuring.

Now gas is down at 4p/unit not sure why you’d do this really? Makes sense for a garage tho.

I like the idea of using a sand battery. You can also run in through a water chamber that is at an angle. Connect the upper pipe of the chamber to the lower pipe of a verticle flow radiator, and connect the upper pipe of the radiator to the lower pipe of the chamber. Use a radiator that has a port for a thermal switch, and wire a fan through the thermal switch. The exhaust will heat the water, the water will flow via convection to the radiator, and when the radiator is hot, the fan will turn on. Use a pressure cap and an overflow bottle on the radiator. You can use multiple loops of exhaust pipe through the water chamber in order to capture the most heat from the exhaust. Have fun and keep tinkering. Great video.

Try the original milliput. Can be used on anything radiators car radiators boats, can be drilled sanded planed. And like you said, set like Stone. I think you get a little more for your money with milliput. Comes in two long sausages, one grey one yellow.

Good idea, A better one would be to run it through an old radiator, or cut the top of the bottle, make a coil of some kind and fill it with sand. Water is better, but only good to 100c, sand is fine for anything that will put out. I agree it would be a lot more work, but you would be amazed how much heat it can store, My best guess is the bottle you are using could store 10 to 20 kwhs depending on the temp, at the bottom end that's £3500 worth of batteries. However you can't plug the telly into it.

This would likely work better if the inlet pipe came into the gas bottle at the bottom and exited at the top as heat rises. If you heat from the top it stays at the top and will struggle to heat all the way to the bottom. If the outlet pipe is cold so is the water at the bottom of the tank. So if you take water from your tap it to will still likely be cold. if you reverse the in and out then the tap is located where the water is hottest and the water at the top will be the coldest. You will have hot water at your tap much quicker.

Interesting experiment.. Thanks for sharing. My thoughts are that it may be more effective if you have a larger exit pipe than the inlet on the gas bottle. This might help with the turbulence which may be effecting the out flow of gasses from the heater. Also you could use a bent pipe for the inlet so it focus the gasses up to the top and the outlet takes it out at the bottom. A grub screw on the bottom could be handy for removing any liquids that may build up from condensation like in air compressors. Filling it with sand could make a very effective heat battery but you would want a coil pipe like in distillation so the flow of gasses has no way of being blocked and causing a possible explosion.

I wonder if maybe you should put the muffler on the inboard side of the Sandbox. as the condensation builds up on the outboard side it may settle in the low points of the muffler and cause pre-mature rusting. So the order could be Heater to muffler to sandbox battery to external exhaust. Great experiment you have here!
