He certainly won well enough, these three horse fields are dodgy, surprised Cauthen didn't make much more use of him earlier on in the race.

Went to that years Galway Festival for a stag do , a week of racing and golf, Barney Curley had 3 runners that week and all 3 won. Backed all 3 , 2 on the track and Magic Combination with a local bookie who bless him took a bit of a hiding. I believe Jamie Spencer was an amateur rider then and the audacity he showed looking between his legs 🤣

Quirky but talented Maylane was at the start that day and backed him

I'd just received my Timeform Annual and after reading the write up on it I had an ante post bet on her to win the Oaks, I got 20/1 - she wasn't that price after this. I think she ended up going off at around even money. The book had paid for itself after the first bet. At a later date she got disqualified and the race given to Snow Bride but that was one of the best bets I've ever had.
