This has the same feel of dreaminess skirting right on the edge of nightmare as in some of his _Twenty-four Preludes in All the Tones of the Chromatic Scale Diatonicized with Thirteen Sounds_ -- especially VII. Having said what I said above, the different pieces are definitely not the same: This one is the industrial-strength version.

Wow, impressive. I'm loving this piece. Crumb's music continues to grow on me. This is the first use of non-keyboard inside-the-piano techniques I've heard that really appeals to me, that feels musical and creatively done. The techniques add to the keyboarding so many fascinating drone, harp, autoharp, percussion, and other sounds, making the piano into a whole new instrument. Well done!

It is nice to see the virtue signaling by those who pretend that they enjoy out of tune instruments. ;)

I have recorded myself (2 recordings put together, one of them at speed 2^(-1/24)) playing the 18th prelude at home (it is on my channel), i will like to do the others when i have more time! I have also improvised a piece with 8th tones (4 recordings at speeds 1, 2^(-1/48), 2^(-1/24) and 2^(-1/16))

im not sure the added notes really worked in the cosmic canons finale. it's supposed to be very sparse and timeless yet peaceful, and the added notes and less soundboard hits make it feel more uneasy than peaceful. it's not a bad idea on its own, but as an ending to the entire makrokosmos series it feels less satisfying

found this song in 2017 my junior year in high school and then rewatched beautiful boy when I realized the memories made me who I am

Great minimalist interpretation with a "meditative" timing. Very balanced in colours and dynamics. Love it!
