This is Spartanburg County Siren number 5 in the system, an original late 80's Whelen WPS-4000-4. This unit is the only Whelen 4000 in the Spartanburg system that wasn't re-rigged with Vortex Type 1 controls, thus it retains its original ESC-864 controller. Hey I like trains/Fire Alarms too my favorite trains are the Alco 4990 shunter locomotives and the big boy steam engine's but let me tell you my 2 favorite fire alarms the Faraday 320 Wheelock and space age horns/mechanical bells OK 👍 😂

These were part of Wheelock's VL series: VL-24 = Light VL1-24 = Single Gang Light VLP-24 = Light Plate VLPS-24 = Strobe Plate, 1.5 Cd VLPH-24 = Strobe Plate, 15 Cd VLPH-115 = Strobe Plate, 15 Cd, 120 VAC VLPM-24 = Strobe Plate, 117 Cd I also own a VLPS-24. So even though this is a 12v detector, it still works with 24v panels?
I've seen those used to replace older hardwired Simplex panels. The YMCA Youth Center in my hometown gutted their 2001-8001 panel and installed a Simplex 4006 system inside the cabinet. And I saw a small medical center replace their Simplex 4001 panel with a 4006.
