Why tamper with the headstock like this. Just play it all your life and then it will look great before you die. Relic schmellic. Just impress people with your playing skills not your sculpting. Relicing is faking it and there’s nothing worse than pretending.
You'd probably have to live a couple of lifetimes to relic a poly coated guitar (ie most guitars nowadays). And if like most guitar players, you own multiple guitars, you probably aren't going to wear-in even the nitro coated ones. It's a preference. Everyone has different preferences. Yours isn't better or worse than mine. To each his own. ✌
Winner has been picked! Check your inbox for an email from me (nathansinkcontact@gmail.com). 🤘
Both sound great TBH. I think the Tex Mex T PUPs are a little warmer than the Keystones, and not in a bad way. I think the Keystones would be an excellent choice for a T guitar with a rosewood fingerboard. Great demonstration, thanks for posting.

The Keystone for more modern clean tone, maybe also for jazz or funk.
Hey Nathan, I recently asked you a question regarding all of this but I have one more. How well did your guitar stay in tune after you installed the Klusons? I’ve been hearing from people that it can be an issue & one person said that his guitar didn’t stay in tune at all after he made the switch. So I’m very curious as to what your experience was. Also, even if your guitar did stay in tune, would you say it was better/worse/equal in comparison with the Grovers? Thanks again!
@@GuitarManDan89 I probably don’t have the best data to answer your question because I pretty much immediately changed the tuners when I got the guitar. I also put a Bigsby on shortly after getting the guitar, which can effect tuning. Wish I could be more help.
@@NathanSink It’s fine dude! Does it stay in tune now with the Bigsby on? I promise I’ll stop bothering you after this lol
@@GuitarManDan89 no worries! It stays in tune pretty good now, considering the Bigsby. My biggest issue seemed to be the corian nut. I switched to Graphtech & tuning is much better.

@@marcospintor1333 I with ya! 👍🏻
I know what I won't be trying to do now. :-) I was going to pull mine out if I could before I refinished the headstock. They do sell soldering irons with all kinds of attachments including ones like a hobby knife. They are in the hobby section of big box stores and usually part of something like a wood burning kit. I've used those when I had to cut nylon and wanted to make it clean and sealed as I went. Thanks for sharing your experiences--it really does help to know the scale of effort for something like this.
@@jimmcclanahan glad it helped somewhat. 🙂 Yeah, if I would have thought about burning the wood I would have been more careful on the front end. It was a good learning experience. Someone mentioned putting a maple veneer on it, which might be interesting. 🤔
I hate the plastic plug on the MIM Fenders. The Squier Classic vibe doesn’t have one. It looks more like the American Fender. Monday Fender doesn’t do away with it. That was a LOT of work man. Good job though

I had the opposite problem! I bought a recently made replacement RW neck for my 2009 RW Tele. It was not a tight fit at all. I could slide a piece of paper or thin cardboard in between the neck and body. Very annoying. Why couldn't Fender make a replacement neck that actually fits?
@@anotherheadlessdemo yeah, the beauty of Fender’s “bolt on” neck design is that changing the neck is really easy. The downside is getting the fit just right. Hope you get it sorted out.
Its fine to not like the Epi headstock . But to forge the Gibson name logo ! SMH
@@donniebaytz1934 and to think, after all these years I’m about to do it again: czcams.com/video/ft6Y21mfJOk/video.htmlsi=h0kIlAfV8yZkOWzL
3 things: 1. Fiebing's WILL COLOR your plastic - however, it's easy to remove and in case you're going for a vintage look, slight discoloration is rather a feature, than a bug!🐛 2. Below, someone says to dampen your fretboard - NEITHER necessary (even on old rosewood), NOR recommended! Just think: What kind of wood is used to build instruments? Correct: DRIED wood... and what happens to wet wood? Yup, it swells... if overdone, water may impair the wood's rigidity, which, in the worst of casers, can lead to frets working loose, or even your fretboard separating from the rest of the neck (Hide-glue anyone? That is hot in th eguitar world, bcs it's water-soluble); minimum, you'll have to sand after dampening the wood, as the water causes the fibers to rise. Rather, be sure to degrease your board thoroughly before applying dye (any fat-residue, even through touchung the fretboard after degreasing, where result in the word not taking the dye well, leading to stains brighter than the surrounding wood. 3. FIEBING'S Pro Leather Dye is great stuff. However, a word of caution regarding BLACK: That formula includes some blue-ish stuff (and, according to StewMac, has for a while). Not what I would want my fretboard to look like🥴... Then again, the Pro-dyes are mixable (YAY!), so you can come up with your own favourite hue. All of that stuff may sound like a lot of work (and rtisk!) - be assured: It isn't. Just take your time (don't rush), use your head (thinking never hurts), and if in doubt, ask on one of the many guitar forums. Sure enough, someone will help you - the first fretboard I died - was positively died with sweat, tears and fear (and took me 2 weeks... slowly, remember?). Now, I can do two in one afternoon...
@@junehabsen6368 thanks for the info! Good stuff. 👍🏻
er...why? Why should one want to WIDEN their binding? Especially since Gibson's binding is way to wide anyway (on non-RI, that is). Thus, a vid on how to make it NARROWER would be much appreciated...
@@junehabsen6368 different strokes for different folks. To narrow you’d have to paint (or sand evenly somehow for an optical illusion). It would be a much different & more difficult process.
sure, I regularly rest the side of my hand on the bridge as well. in fact, it's mostly the main position for my hand, as I really never used picks much in 40something yrs, and have made this an ideal position for my picking/strumming hand. @@ios6605 I’m actually in the process of stripping an Epiphone ES-335. Here’s the playlist: czcams.com/play/PLT0llhi52k8qIcU-bX-sRQsJo6K1Yz_ev.html&si=8WQJBNvFzFh5PgeM. From my experience I would recommend sanding because it gives the most control. Other options are paint stripper (which is pretty messy/toxic & with Epiphone as least takes industrial strength stuff), or a heat gun. I tried all of those with my Epiphone & found sanding to be the best. If you have a maple fretboard, it’s gonna be pretty tricky regardless, but best of luck if you give it a shot!

@@michael_caz_nyc hadn’t considered that one. Thanks for sharing!
It sounded before as if it didn’t have proper grounding. Like a wire or a solder point went bad. Been there, didn’t use foil. I agree with you man, asthetically the truss rod hole on a headstock looks crap, i don't like them either. That was some effort you put in there! Wow! lol...i was thinking sbout doing that on an old japanese squire neck i have, but I think I'll pass after watching your vid and the nightmare you had trying to sort it lol ...A++++ for effort and determination though 👍 😎 pity these heel spoke wheek adjusters weren't around back in years gone by like they are starting to come through now. that way everyone is potentialky happy 👍 people can adjust the neck st the heel without having to take the neck off and the headstock avoids an ugly looking hole. Fender need to get with the program and start using these spoke wheel adjusters themselves. My two main strats sre partcasters. The rosewood necks are from elsewhere, not fender, because at the time of writing this post, they don't do any necks with spoke wheel at the heel. For me personally they are coolio, i get the classic 60's strat look i like the best on the headstock but i can easily sort out a truss rod adjust if i need too 👍
