I set up my gmrs and did a radio check. Home Depot around the block told me to get off because they own the channel. I told them right over the air that it's a public frequency and they need to look into quiet/privacy tones 🤦‍♂️

Let’s see, I go off-roading and in groups of 5+ where repeater covers 100+ miles and we are always connected! Im not just sitting on a truck driving all bored! I also have a home base in case of real emergencies I have a plan b and plan c! If anything, why would I need ham license when Im using radios as intended and not just for cussing and yapping?!

If their radios have an antenna on them, this means they are Not FRS radios, and this is where the FCC is getting much of their revenue. FRS can be used by businesses, but GMRS cannot. Businesses need to learn this right away. We had a few businesses in my area using GMRS frequencies, with one business even being leased a GMRS repeater and frequency. None of their useres were using GMRS call signs. We got them out by warning them, recording them, and reporting them. The owner of that repeater sold it, and we now have another usable GMRS repeater in our area.

From my novice view, I only learned 50% of the way a Simplex Node works. Please explain the internet aspect. I listen to GMRS live and guys are constantly testing their SN's. I assumed these connected to the internet but I don't understand how.

If your using a repeater then a business using any of the FRS channels aren't interfering with you. If you choose to leave tones off then that's your fault. You don't own the frequency just like they don't own it. Turn on your tones if you don't want interference; don't be a dick to try to run someone else off the channel by using the tones they were using. You sound like a whiny jerk who thinks you're the boss of the radio waves.

Where can I find the code that you changed? I was able to change frequency using the program the manufacturer recommended but I can’t get the ctcss tones to work properly

First off I’m not some kid under 30 years old. I’ve traveled coast to coast for 38 years (retiring in 2015) as an OTR truck driver and three time owner operator, [and an 8 year Air Force veteran], so, you’ve already derived I’m an old fart! I’m certainly not afraid to say something, the owner of MyGMRS is a douche, he will not help you in anyway, and if you push to get answer he will ban you. I am currently on GMRS live, the freedom there is not so free. Yes you can ask questions and you will get a reply, but not the reply you’re looking for. Mr. T has a temper problem. I know a few people he has banned. Both of them are prime examples of ham snobbery. Now that I know how to do everything, I don’t need either one and will be getting off GmrsLive.

I built 2 nodes using the 2 Aursinc devices described in the howto videos. I thought GMRS Linked was that other site you are talking about. I was looking to get on GMRS Linked. I thought the name had changed. The nodes I built work great on the site you have an issue with. I have a 3rd unconfigured Aursinc/Pi 4 node I want to use on GMRS Linked.

I have both. They both work good.

Is there a way to link this up with GMRS live on one pi with one radio or would I need separate rigs for each?

I got some repeaters around me. I am a ham operator. I got the gmrs license cause the nice folks around me who put up their own repeaters with their own money prefer you have a license. My daughter who likes talking on the radio to me isnt really ready to read a tech class ham book just to talk to dad on the other side of the park when i wander off. So for us i go gmrs. In all honesty i hate giving callsigns on simplex gmrs or amature. At least on gmrs your talking to someone you know personally. But on ham its usually another hobbyist and the call signs are part of the deal. When im telling my daughter its time to come back to the car a call sign at the end of my conversation is the last thing on my mind.

I don’t understand. I have a simplex frequency near me. How do I use it to communicate to another radio near me but out of radio to radio range? Is it not meant for that?

Jason, i finally got my simplex node in service on 462.550 here in my small town.. it's putting out around 40 watts but i have my radio set up for low power (aka...25 watts) if need be... works great for me in my area on simplex.. getting 12 miles on simplex now.. Todd WRKH774 im on GMRS LIVE network with a node number of 1930...

I have tons of clients I could set up for this. Just need to know the process. I am an IT guy so it wouldn't be difficult for me to learn. Wouldn't mind setting up a node or two.
