I ask concerning the eighth notes played; the rhythm sounds to me like quarter beats instead of the half beat I would have expected. Why is that?

The move to D above middle C in the third to last measure and then to G in the next sounds horrible and ugly to me.

My grandmother used to sing this to me all the time when I was a young child. She refuses to sing now because she thinks she sounds bad, even though she still sings beautifully, I really miss hearing her sing this.

I was playing it like this while I practiced, but when I performed it for my Piano Teacher, he encouraged me to think of it as a lullaby and go much slower, and play with more soul.

why does the dotted quarter note seem longer than the half notes in this song? I just cant get the timing right since it alternated between 2/4 and 4/4.

Hi, I just wanna pop in to say that if you're learning how to play this song from this video, this is not how swing rhythm is supposed to sound at all. I hope this doesn't come across as mean but I know a lot of beginner students are working off of examples like this and this is completely improper eighth note swing. (I'm a piano teach with a music degree). Please find another example or consult a teacher if you're attempting to learn this.

Do i need to memorise the piece before moving on? I always rely on reading. Is it bad? Should i really memorise the piece even tho I do good but rely on reading then move on to another lesson

are you supposed to hold the chords down that long? in the book the chords are only quarter notes, but hes holding down the chords pretty much for the whole measure

I am really not a fan of this song but I WILL NOT GIVE UP! i have to get this one down before I can move on to more music that might be more interesting to me. The cleaner I get at it, the more I like it but it really is not a song im interested in. Im excited to play the next couple though, they seem more musically fun.

I know it sounds dumb to say this, but the way to be successful at this song, or any song, is to play it CORRECTLY from the very beginning. Which means just go as slowly as you have to! I play it at about 20 beats per minute I swear. haha. But the reason this is so important is because of muscle memory. If you do it wrong, and don't immediately start that section over and fix it, you will learn it that way, and it will take 10x as much effort to learn the song because you have to unlearn the wrong way first. And you'll just get frustrated and give up or blame the song, etc. Just slow it down to a crawl so everything is working together. And then very gradually increase the speed. 1 BPM per practice hour if you need to, who cares? You have the patience for it, or else you wouldn't have started learning one of the hardest instruments to learn as an adult!
