I've loved regency fashion since the 2005 adaptation of Pride & Prejudice. I think it is so fun that Bridgerton has re-ignited a love for this fashion, and I'm going to see if I can knit a regency gown today! I'm working with some original gown example that were knit, my own knitting machine and seeing what we can do with it all!

Everyone seems so drawn to regency lately! I'm suprised there are examples of entire knit dresses from the time. I was always under the impression that knitting was almost never used as fashionable outerwear until the 20s. Anyway its really cool to me that such examples exist.

Just discovered you and was excited to see the same Japanese knitting machine books I have in my own collection! I have made a few things from them back in the day and loved the challenge of interpreting the symbols. I also have learned enough Norwegian to read knitting patterns and have knit Norwegian patterns doing that so I can really relate to so much! Haha, even with the challenge of not having space to set up all my things, loom, knitting machines, spinning wheels in one room at one time. But after many many years of wishing, by the end of summer, at last I will have the space. I have subscribed and look forward to following your journey.

Your videos are always interesting and your vintage knitting always takes me back on my 70 year knitting journey. This particular knit was revealed to me from the first decrease. It was one of those patterns that one person would find in a book and teach to every other knitter in their circle, well into the third quarter of the last century, when modern pattern books became available even in the remotest places. So here I am, using a pair of my vintage needle and yarn from my enormous stash, knitting this cape for next winter’s Netflix and Chilly nights., in a stitch pattern that my aunt taught me in the 1950s. A few observations: you have proved that so-called continental knitting, which is not used in most of the European continent, can be totally useless in certain situations. You can be forgiven for using it because of your German origins 😊. However, you have proved here that you are a true knitter and can do whatever is necessary to get the results you need. Kudos. There are different methods of doing the loop stitch that secures the loops as you knit each stitch, but you managed quite well with the standard way. Two observations about those old pattern terms: knitting plain means working all knit stitches. Purl is always instructed explicitly. Knit even means knit in pattern without increasing or decreasing. Keep up the good work.

It turned out pretty. I find a lot of croched garments to be kinda clunky.. which is one reason I've longed to learn to knit for decades. I finally started taking knitting classes this year and am loving knitting. Will be finishing my first cocoknits sweater in the nexxt week or so, I'm on the sleeves. I also have a large collection of crochet and knitting books as I am an avid secondhand shopper. As my skillset shifts from accessories to wearables, I'm looking forward to exploring some if the vintage clothing patterns to see how they turn out 40-50 years post publishing. Good times!

As a fellow knitter and engineer, I drool over all the machines, ancient, old and new. Putting cost and availablity aside, what would be your dream knitting machines, one for each category: 1- old no longer in production and 2- currently in production.
