Enigma Machine and arrangement of the drum solo tonthe middle of the track was great. Loved it. Should have been just a biiit longer though.

I personally like Train of Thought best of all Dream Theater albums, mainly because I like the heavier side of DT but that album was still very progressive and never got boring.

James talks for 5 secs and then JP talks for hours... Just like their songs..

Octavarium has magical parts but there are some drawn out moments that aren't that good. And if you talk about the whole album well this is certainly not their best album only the SONG octavarium is a masterpieces true but the whole album isn't as good or doesn't have the consistence of Train of thoughts (or awake/I&W etc). That is what I mean. In train of thoughts, pretty much every song is a VERY good song and it's very consistent just like this last album.

Train of Thought, psh Octavarium dwarfs that, at the time it was their best work<Petrucci even said this in the Score vid

Man I tell you. This is the best album since Train of Thought. At least this is an Album I wouldn't change a single note and there is only a very few albums I can vouch for like that. Seriously I was disapointed by the last 3 albums even though it had great moments but this one is beyond any expectations I had. (sry for my english I am a frenchy ;p) but I tell you BUY THIS ALBUM I haven't loved an album that much since Train of Thought

I agree I don't like their new stuff as much as their earlier songs. They started sounding alot more "radio friendly" and poppy since octavarium (especially coming from Labrie). The lyrics have really went down in quality since Portnoy's departure especially on this album. Nevertheless, these guys are great musicians and every album has great moments that remind me of the old DT I love. You should definitely get this album, Enigma Machine and Illumination Theory are awesome.

I used to be a huge Dream Theater fan (around Metropolis pt 2), and I still buy their albums, but I'm not sure why because I don't really like them anymore. Their music is so emotional, and sappy. There's always good proggy instrumental parts and that's probably what keeps me buying their albums, but I find pretty much each song is ruined by a cringe-worthy chorus. I'm sure I'll get this new one eventually (due to my completist nature), hopefully I will enjoy it. But I doubt it.

I like Jordan better than K Moore, just my opinion.

Honestly, I can't believe they wrote THIS caliber of an album in year what...27? This album really is "Dream Theater"...I totally get it.

...and then they found a literal Man-Genie.

The key to this new THIRD best (I&W then Awake) Dream Theater album is that Jordan feels like he can relax after establishing himself as the best keyboardist ever and start playing like Kevin Moore did back in DREAM THEATER (hence the self-titled), and it's just amazing...then the solo sections and tech-parts come, and in comes Jordan R. Oh and John Myung and John Petrucci is the best riff writing combination ever...and more of one of the most consistent awesome vocalists ever. It's a classic.

Someone who is famous and has video blogs and facebook page updates about which metal band is the best i.e. "Dream Theater vs Opeth"... idk seems somewhat hypocritical. That said, they definitely earned their fame. The songs seems to be musically and lyrically influence by Rush's "Limelight."
