Bus Driving POV High School Prom Convoy (and some bus troubles)
High school prom season means a lot of business for charter bus companies! We were part of a large bus move for a high school's prom that took up almost the entire Chicago-based fleet. Unfortunately for me on this trip, my bus developed some issues that required me to switch buses.

I know EXACTLY where this starts On the right at 0:39 is where the Hyatt Regency is, I did work on their west tower when they renovated the whole thing, and just finished in the east tower renovations! We parked in the garage to the right at the start of the video, and it always smelled like weed and piss.
Does the mothering public disrespect you bus drivers? Cutting off and break checking as much as they do truck drivers?
They sure do! My biggest gripes are when cars pass the white line at intersections and speeding up to pass you after you’ve passed them.
Awesome views from Downtown…. I’ve always dreamt of driving a Bus, 29 years in an 18 wheeler has gotten old.
That’s a lot of years behind the wheel! I really enjoy driving a bus, it’s a great break from sitting in an office
You are kinda getting close to hit 2k subs just 160 more to go keep on posting vids!
Almost there! I got plenty more videos on the way 💪
Can’t wait what you recorded :)
I’m gonna going to Mexico on bus and the bus is kinda like this but the headlights in the back is different I think it’s like an Mci E4500
Nice! Yes, the E4500 has a similar design, but the back is different
Also the bus in Chicago and it takes 2 days to go to Mexico and by the time I go to the border of Mexico my eyes are gonna be red because we always get there at 11pm or 12am lol
Your videos are great! I admire your passion and professionalism. Keep it up!
Thank you! 😊
It'd make sense that Chicago is busy at this time of day...
It wasn't too bad
Why do you wear gloves when you are driving
It's my signature characteristic here; driving with white gloves is common in Asia
@@alblua oh okay. I noticed sometimes you wear them and sometimes you don’t. Sometimes just one glove. I don’t even know how I picked up on that!
Has your company purchased any of these or plans to?
Yes, we have three already
One of the most difficult decisions to make as a driver or passenger: Air Conditioning….or a Suspension
It's a difficult decision indeed 🥲
At least the VanHool you drove is white instead of black.
Is the Chicago bus fleet is continue to grow?
Yes, it's slowly growing!
Hi Albert, so quick question. When you switched buses, did another driver bring the bus to you and bring the other bus back, or did you swap with another driver, and the other driver use the bus you had for the return trip?
Never mind, I might have answered my own question, lol! Guessing you went back to the Chicago facility and swapped buses.
You got it! We don't assign buses to drivers here. I went back to Chicago facility since I knew there was a spare bus that was already done for the day.
Why is the prom so late in the year?
This was filmed several weeks ago! I intentionally avoid posting videos close to the date it occurred and keep them out of chronological order.
If you look at the sequence of 4 cameras at about 13:49 in the video, you can see the date as 2024-04-20, so he probably recorded this back in April but didn’t upload it until today
Welp I missed hiding that! Oh well 🤣
✌🏾
Love the video keep them coming 😊
Thanks! I got a pretty big video backlog I'm still working on
Oh ok nice can’t wait to see it
I love your videos ❤
Thank you! 🙏
What's this Chicago operation? Is it new? Temporary?
Not new! It's here to stay and we're growing :)
@@alblua Cool! Do you plan on getting a garage? I'd imagine it's tough to operate in the winter!
Yes! Winters are difficult for sure and the buses always become blocks of ice.
Why do most people drive with gloves on and some don't and why don't you talk on here but when James is filming you talk
It's personal preference. James and I are two different people with different video styles.
Great video of Lower Wacker, and Lower Lower Wacker! Did you hear if Van Galder / FlexBus is going out of business?
Coach USA is still running but they have filed for bankruptcy. Flix is a different entity, I haven't heard any such news for them.
I pretty much grew up in Chicago and I didn't know there were streets below other streets
Now you know!
✌🏾
I was staying on Wacker and riding a shuttle to McCormack Place. When the driver made a right and went into what I thought was an under ground parking lot all I could do was look ip.I knew the roof was coming off. Then we came into daylight and followed a blacktop to McCormack place. What a ride. What model of Tourrider does PCC have. Nice video for drivers who have never been to Chicago.
Sounds like you went on the busway! We have the Business version of the Tourrider.
WOW, Sure are a lot of lights down there Alblua💡💡💡Must cost a fortune to keep them all illuminated day and night. And looks like your big bus just barely fits the clearance must be only a few inches to spare😮 I think many years ago Greyhound had a fairly large terminal down in there somewhere off of Wacker. I always liked to see all those dogs with the red and blue paint schemes parked at an angle at those big city bus stations way back in the 70's and 80's. Nowadays they just stop at a gas station or a bus stop sign by the side of the road🚏🚌 My How times have changed. Good Video my friend👍
There are definitely a lot of lights for sure! 💡
This is super cool! One of the most exciting opportunities of the job. One of the highlights of my driving is driving a congressional group from the Capitol to Andrews AFB as they were flying out to Harry Reid’s funeral. After dropping them at the door of their 737-BBJ (C-40B?) thing, I got to drive alongside AF2 taxiing (the 757), with VP onboard. I hope secret service does not hound me for this comment. We will sit back and see lol
Wow! Now THAT is pretty cool! The avgeek in me would be freaking out 🤣
Man your announcement is so concise…mine takes a full 5 minutes and with a sprinkle of assertive east coast attitude 😂
Hahaha, I don't want to bore the passengers!
This bus sounds like it have a Detroit engine.
Good ear! Yes, it has a Detroit DD13
I have been on upper wacker. Never been down on lower wacker and basement wacker. Those amber lights do give off eerie feeling! Gotten used to new led streets lights and not used to amber lights anymore!
Eery for sure, but easier on the eyes!
Would a Prevost H3-45 fit in the underground levels? Also, which motorcoach is the tallest of them all? H3-45 or Tourrider?
Yes, the Prevost will fit in most areas! In fact, the north end of the Chicago Busway is accessed on the third lower level as well. Prevost H3-45 is 12' 4", Tourrider Business is 12' 1", and the Tourrider Premium is 12' 3".
@alblua Oh nice. What is the height the lower levels, the roads themselves from ground to ceiling?
It varies depending on where you are, but the entrance ramps to the lower levels are all 12' 6". There's a document published online from the City of Chicago with all the posted clearances throughout the city that is a must have for all bus drivers in Chicago. www.chicago.gov/content/dam/city/depts/cdot/bridge/general/PostedClearances072312.pdf
Nice Bus! Have you ever driven a 2009 VanHool Double Decker?
No, I haven't had the opportunity to yet!
вентиляция шумная, шторки тарахтят , все впечатление портит , сиденья хилые а так автобус вроде норм
??
Oh my my favorite brand and brand new also it won my heart Great job you really made some great photos and a great short
A Brand New Bus WOW!!😍 Looking Very Cool with those tires and rims all shined up Super Spectacular🚌✨✨🎈🎈😎 Nice 👌
Your little guy that sets up in the front of the bus with you that little car that came around he said oh my he said they think there's something. You know if you're going from that cold to that hot in one day you're going to catch cold. My preference was always Prevost and the Carpenter school bus and since there was only one carpenter that they ever carried it was a International engine because it was only diesel that district ever had it had air brakes and air everything and that was before they ever dreamed of it. But it had a standard transmission air brakes air door and an air stop sign. My grandmother always had the preference for a superior coach with a Chevrolet engine. And I can't blame her it drove the easiest of any school bus I ever seen. a nice ride again you did a real nice job. Enjoyed every second of it
PS when James gets back he got a gift but I told him he has to give you a small taste of it. I don't want you have too much because it might start growth 😂
Thanks for the kind words! I'll check out what you sent James when he gets back in town 😮
beautiful
Hybrid bus?
Nope, this has a Detroit DD13 with an Allison transmission. There isn't a hybrid motorcoach that exists as far as I know in the US.
My alma mater, Boiler Up!! Thanks for this trip down memory lane, so much had changed. And it’s great to see the campus “out of construction” for once.
I found it to be a very nice campus! Everything seems to be very new
THAT'S where you change the colors?!
Haha, yeah it's a little strange 😅
@@alblua I just thought our unit didn't have that feature. This is what happens when you don't read the manual.
Go find that button and change the colors!
I miss seeing the road... but I like the sound from the back better. This was a great video!
This was sort of an experiment! I may try placing a mic instead and record video from the front another time
Does this bus have 290,000 miles on it at 1:57?
Close, ~250k miles on the odometer
On Van Hool CX-45, you can put a camera on the window if you can change views, can you do it in your next video?
I'm not sure what you mean, but this was a one time experiment recording from the back.
@@alblua I was thinking rear facing camera as the front part facing the traffic
I'll give it a shot!
@@alblua OK
I like the camera placement in the front. Do the same drivers drive the same line schedule every day or does different drivers drive every day?
Our schedule runs have dedicated drivers that drive a designated route. During capacity increases, charter drivers will drive additional buses to boost capacity.
Very Cool ride through the town on the J4500 Alblua👌 I really like the looks of this bus especially the camera angle on the rear wheels the rims are so super shiny clean and so is the body Super Spectacular to admire fancy bus! Do those monitors play movies and if so does the signal come from satellite or how does it work? Hope your scheduled run went smooth and had some time to stop for a good meal at the city diner🍔🍟🥤😋 Thanks for sharing such a wonderful video😊
Kudos to our wash crew and maintenance team that keep our buses looking good! The monitors are connected to a DVD player or HDMI input, no satellite connection.
I like your videos but I do not like this camera placement. I would prefer if you returned to your old camera placement. I like seeing the road, not the back of seats.
Noted! This was a one time experiment, don't worry the videos that come later go back to regular POV views :)
@@albluado both!
Hi! I love your attention to detail!
Thank you!
Hi Albert, Canadian articulated city bus operator here! I've never used rain X on the wind shield before, do you find it very effective? You've made me consider buying a bottle and try it out. Thanks for the idea!
Yes! It definitely helps. I always used Rain X on my own car, but this was my first time using it on a bus. There is a visible difference of water beading up and being easier to wipe off by the wipers where I applied Rain X.
