GUNNER CHANNEL V PLINTH: a tribute to James Jamerson & Dimension 20
I started by seeing how close I could get to Jamerson’s tone, the breakthrough was putting the harder Brillo side against the strings…but my right hand starts moving around and I did part with a pick.

Special thanks to @Rylee_G for doing the hard part! I literally put a mic up to the Bluetooth with their video on my phone so I could record to the tablet.

133 click, couple passes with bass, couple passes with Japanese percussion and synth pads on the drum pad and a couple overdriven bass solo-ish-es. Cut out a third to post and quick photo shot with Alfred in his new bed.

Headphones are good, car with bass boost is alright too. There’s one or two places with three bass parts over lapping. This one definitely shows more of a Watt influence then original demo but came out of seeing him again in February with Porno for Pyros. There’s an isolated bass video on here for God God’s//Urge that just guts me every time. Getting it live and seeing Watt and Perkins together...

i cannot believe how precisely i am the target audience for this video what the actual hell
@@chickenbobby666 make sure you find The Fall Guy is Really Good!!! That’s my other personal favorite. Honestly I thought it’d be cool to grab a couple funny Lou Wilson quotes and this just kind of fell together. I had to play another minute or so of bass to make it fit but editing it together was like the hardest part.
Great video just want to say and I really like those type of Hardware bag with the Tama classic Hardware it's much lighter and great for gigging I should have went with that instead of the heavier Hardware
@@user-vm9hy7qx7c they’ve held up good so far. I will say- I’d like to put some isolation thingies under the high hat stand. The way it sits flat on the floor, there’s plenty of ?sonic transference? into the floor. Jamming/Gigging would be fine but if you where REALLY mic-ing everything to record, it’d take a few bars before someone asked, “what’s going on with the drums?”
I have a new project bass. I just got a 1972 precision neck, that some flattened the fingerboard, and glued on a slab of ebony, and gave it a 9.5 to 12" compound radius, fretless. So far, I have dressed the fingerboard to a full 9.5 radius. Next step is fret slots and frets. The body is a 77 or 78 precision in original three tone sunburst. There was routing done for a jazz pickup near the neck, and a monster route near the bridge. I plugged the monster route with a pine plug which was sanded and given three coats of amber shellac. I am a busy boy.
@@telecasterbear hmm…have you considered Mandolin fret wire? Leland Sklar has it on everything and now that I tried it once-I want it on something. You’re keeping the Ebony, is it a good piece of wood? Had an Ebony-ed neck on the Fenderstein at one point with the bridge moved up like 2/3” and I want one! Gonna feel bad if you’ve been making videos and I’m missing them but are you gonna do some videos?
@Redbeard4321 I only have two bass repair videos on my CZcams channel. It's just a slide show of pictures in each. I have not used mandolin wire. The piece of ebony is very black. There is no visible grain.
@@telecasterbear if they’re more then a year old then that’s what I’ve seen. I don’t have enough patience and barely pulled off a couple fretless conversions…I’m the guy you station at the chop saw and yell measurements too. Hope you put something together for CZcams with this next project.
When I started you could not go into a guitar center without at least 2 people playing Higher Ground on bass. Flea was everything and for my friend’s dads it was Jaco. Jameson, flatwounds and foam mutes just sounded better to me. 2 B Clear-I love Flea (Claypool, Graham, Mark King) but in 98/99, that’s what “everyone was doing!”
Agreed. Flats for me as well. There was no guitar center back when I started. You were not born yet. It was 1975. Only mom and pop shops. Such a great time. Looking at great used gear that I could not afford. I was only 15 then.
@@telecasterbear just getting back a 5 string that was with a friend for soldering pre-Covid. Teetering between trying Half Wounds or these new Low Tension LaBella’s. Look up Dogal Hellborgs on CZcams but a 5 string set is $100+! Now that Hellborg’s have been around a while I should try to find out how they’re aging…
@@Redbeard4321 I love Gregor, and Lars, and Frank.
@@telecasterbear Gregor Fris? Lars Lehman? Frank Itt? The bald guy on BassTheWorld?
@Redbeard4321 Yes indeed. I miss seeing reviews by Ove Bosch. He died so young at age 51. He did reviews for warwick gear. A great bass player.
Father James.
Kong is a winner here with our terrier, Oscar.
He chewed a hole in the Chicago Bears bed so that’s getting handed down to the kitty. If he manages to get through the Kong bed, honestly I’ll be impressed!
Nice one, Red.
I knew I liked you alot.
Except for the ones consisting of capital letters--some with numbers--those were words.
Thanks Red.

Ahoy matey. I see your Reverend back there. Always good to see you.
Poor guy he did 😹❤😘❤️🐾
Look like you’re toy hungry 😂❤🐾😘
Real talk: for years I’ve been mildly judging my sister. Then we get Alfred and now I’m looking at dog toys everywhere and getting a couple. (if he’s with me in a store, then you have to, right) In our defense- a lot of it is hand me downs from my sister!
…and I just put a Capt. America squeaky shield in the cart. The struggle is real.
The Cubs, and the Bears.
You know it!
Is Reverend a Catholic bass ?
Short answer: Catholic means universal sooo sure! Could be Lutheran or Methodist…Priest, Father, Clergy…do the Catholics use ‘Reverend’? She’s played 1 or 2 Sundays a month at an Evangelical Free and we just have pastors. When I move down to TN am interested in getting on like a freelance thing and playing some where different every couple weeks. Assume there’s enough money in it to cover gas and maybe add a couple pieces of gear a year.
@@Redbeard4321 Okay, good luck with the playing ,would be an amazing Bass I think, I live in the Netherlands, not much churchmusic here.
@ultrasignificantfootnote3378 Have been very happy with the Reverend and it’s a very respected brand. Hope you get to try one out. Am planning to test out a Lakland 5 string 35” with ebony fret board. What’s your current bass?
Good one, Red.
Seriously it’s worth catching on the big screen!
You left out Roadhouse. We just watched it, but I could see how Fall Guy would make you forget it.
That’s Jake Gyllenhaal boomer!
Great to see you. I'm digging the haircut. I hope you are doing well.
Pretty cool !

Good morning Alfred and Red.
Alfred! Good boy.
I’ll pass that along. 😉
Puppy? Nice.
Alfred, long hair chihuahua. Taking him to 1st vet appointment tomorrow. His mom is my brother’s and his half brother is my sister’s.
You sure have magic hands, Red.
I always liked this song. You nailed "Et tu, Brute ?"
Madness shall follow, indeed.
Wow
I think this video is what the first five minutes of swallowing a bottle of benadryl would feel like
I can’t have Benadryl! Took it for a bee sting and then grilled 200 burgers for campers. Got on the radio to the director and said ‘I feel like I’m in a giant marshmallow suit.’ He served the burgers and I had a lie down.
This made me laugh thanks
Thanks for taking us on the test drive, Red.
I don't know what enrages me most: the unrelated Akira imagery zooming in and out like a Windows XP screen saver pulling from a folder with only three images, the aneurysm-inducing bleep-bloops that go nowhere aggressively, or the fact that it's all crammed into my left ear.
for me its the left ear
Is it all coming through the left ear in headphones? If that’s happening, then I need to figure it out. This is my first time with a keyboard. So I just got a Reface CS cause I had to plan & program everything into the multi pad. I’m literally learning as I go…everything is one track at a time, through $40 dollar interface on a free app…check that, I paid like 20 to unlock all the tools with Hokusai. The images are a slide show cause that’s what the app requires for as long the audio goes. I’m just tired of sending my buddies 1:30 of snippets of stuff. I’m literally a middle aged warehouse worker and volunteer bass player/ tech for church. I like a lot of different music. Lately I’ve been on a Vangelis and John Carpenter kick.
If you got time…I just posted Drive Test in mono. Hopefully it alleviates your rage. Thanks for the heads up on the technical issue. Am looking at upgrading my interface…but am always looking at a lot of gear!
I thought my gear was just busted. Thx
@@Redbeard4321 you're good, you don't owe me an explanation. I'm just a jerk online that suffers from that need to be a hyperbolic jerk online when relaying information haha. But yeah, balance seems to be something like 90% left and 10% right since there's still audio there but barely. Depending on how everything is set up, it could be a problem with physical connection to your interface (something not plugged in fully or a mono plug going into a stereo jack or vise versa, for instance). I've had that happen when plugging something directly into a 3.5mm line-in on my computer.
I think you can sell your songs to CZcams content creators and get a percentage of the plays.
A percentage is all I’ve ever wanted!
Very smooth, Red.
czcams.com/video/wArWAUO4v4E/video.html hey Red. this is where you can find some videos of my cover band. They are on my drummers channel here on you tube.
Going back through my old stuff! 1- that girl you got singing is great! 2 your drummer hasn’t posted in 5 months, are the Throwbacks still together? Don’t break my heart Tele!
@Redbeard4321 I would never break your heart, Red. Yes, still together.
Watched another one and noticed your using an IPad music stand setup…which helps my ego. I have the memory of a Goldfish. I can not tell you what song we just played in church two seconds after it’s off the confidence monitor…but I do a good job of coming in, dropping out, building back up…cause I cheat and follow the drummer. 😉
@@Redbeard4321 Yes. I never had an iPad until this band. I use it for lyrics, and I make bass tab notes for any song that is new to me. We have way too many songs, so we don't always play them all.
Thanks Red.
You made me smile, and that's a good thing. Thanks, Red.
Sounds great. Always good to see you, mate.
Life is about learning! Next time I change the heads, I’ll take E Rings and trim off just enough for a snugger fit internally!
Greetings Red. Glad to see you today. The floor tom sounds great with the bottom and top muting. Later today I have my 2nd gig with my old man cover band. Big fan here. Enjoy the weekend.
You gonna get any videos from your gigs! Let me know so I can check it out!
Greetings, Red. Nice classic stands for your kit. I got myself into an old man cover band about five weeks ago. I played out last Friday. My first gig in 32 years.
What's the worst that could happen? You always need to be prepared. I will join you for your next journey to a music store. Give me a call.
I use to go to the bar almost every night to “keep my roommate out of trouble”, so I know how this works. 😉
@Redbeard4321 Good man, Red.
For this and some other videos, I thought I had watched them, but I was actually remembering it being recorded. Notice how I don't say anything ? Professional !
I felt like I was Igor to your Dr. Frankenstein for some of these . . . er . . . modifications. I was like, "This seems a little crazy, but he's the doctor, and you are merely the lowly hunchback."
It’s funny because it’s true!
@@Redbeard4321 You never helped me with that hump.
I'm sorry I didn't check out your channel until now. I just watched the K Bass video and then decided to look at your channel and get caught up. This gave me a lot to think about. I think we're doing well in terms of healing old wounds. I'm dumbfounded by the idea that I had any part in producing such a great guy. ( I'll tell you the totally inappropriate but hysterically funny comment that I successfully fought the urge to leave after you read this.)
I'm totally stoked about you having an upright again. Your playing along with the CZcams drum video the other day sounded pretty good. Daddy is so proud. *wipes single tear from corner of right eye*
Hey there Red. I am on holiday to North carolina for a visit with family. Just finding you now. I hope all is well.
Thanks! Hope you’re having fun with the family!
Construction, fit, and finish of Reverend instruments are top shelf. Hardware is excellent and playability is awesome. That’s a great looking bass. I just bought a Thundergun and love it. I also have a Hofner Contemporary 500/1 which is semi-hollow (chambered) which has the hollow thickness with the sustain of a tone block. Great color on that DK! I got my TG to play in church.
I just got the exact same bass/color, and I took the rotosound flats off and put on DR Sunbeams, nickle rounds. It's still has a huge fundamental and you can roll the highs off if you need to, but the thing has TONE in the upper freq., a very complex beautiful tone. One of the most efficient basses I've ever had. GC salesman hated the color, said it looks like baby puke but it reminds me of Spring's new shoots.
NICE! I think Reverend called the color Metallic Alpine. My friend said it reminds her of Tiffany Blue.
Did you mean to say “Sadowsky” strings?
Yep. Did I say “saNd”? Me not talk good an stuff…
@@Redbeard4321 also Bartolini was pronounced wrong. Let your bass do the talking I guess.
