Tom Malloy - Living in Spain
Spain
Registrace 28. 04. 2013
We live in a small town near Madrid. Why? Because Madrid has so much to offer. But we prefer the country so we bought property nearby. We live in a typical small Spanish town, off the beaten path - not in any tourist guides. We love that the town center has managed to maintain its original character.
My videos are a little different from many because we're not just visiting Spain - it's our home now! I don't pretend to know everything about Spain or Madrid. Instead, we just share our travels with you!
All income from this channel will be donated to charity - If I ever reach 1,000 subscribers.

Jerez de la Frontera
During our stay in Cadiz, we decided to drive north to visit the beautiful and historic city of Jarez de la Frontera. We could have certainly spent more time there, but we intend to return some day.

We decided to visit Almeria for the first time and chose to go off-season before the colder weather arrived. The beaches were not busy this time of year and are absolutely beautiful and the food, for the most part, was outstanding. We also drove along the coast and visited Cabo de Gata and La Isleta del Moro. I hope you enjoy this video.

They played at the sports club / restaurant only a few kilometers away from home. I hope you enjoy this short video.

Wonderful video .😊
So glad you enjoyed it.
Hey Tom, sorry to see you’ve had an accident .. Hope you recover soon buddy 🥂
When you got the loan did age affect the outcome, im under the impression that they want the loan final payment be before your 70th birthday?
Hi Tom, my wife and I are looking to build our own house too. We are going to look at land close to Valencia next week. Do you have any tips on where to start with buying the land and how we would go around choosing a house to build etc?
I'd be glad provide some suggestions. You can go to my "about this channel" page and click on my contact link. Then choose the method of communication, such as email or WhatsApp. It's easier to share lengthy text or a file using that method. I'll start creating a response today and share that with you. Buying property can be tricky because, from my experience, the seller chooses a real estste agent to sell it through, and it may listed with just that one agent. The plot next door may be listed by another agent. They don't seem to share listings. We went to a few agents just to figure out who owned the property we wanted. The property we wanted wasn't even for sale, but the agent found the owner and only then was it put on the market. The town hall will not provide property owners names because, for some reason, it's not allowed, unlike in the US where you can go to city hall and look at the Plat maps, which include the property owner's name. By the way, WhatsApp is used A LOT in Spain for making free phone calls and texting. Even international calls.
Spain is so magical😊
Ez dadila barriro horrelakorik gertatu
Wow, I forgot we went to that town! That was cool, thanks for the memories 😊
Glad it brought back nice memories for you! I remember the mediocre meal I had, but it was a very cute town.
Like the video very much. Did you happen to stumble across the lost city of Atlantis while in Doñana? A lot of historians y researchers are constantly in that area searching for it. Great music and the narrator/ host is not too bad.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. Next time we go, we'll bring the metal detector and do some searching.
Nice spot!
So let's go on more adventures!!
Another beautiful video Tom 🥂 Thanks so much for putting up the subtitles in both languages .. Muchas gracias amigo 🙏
Gracias a ti
@@tmalloydesign Yes I must agree, very nice touch in this video with the use of both Languages. No intiendo porque, pero este metido de usar las dos idiomas, es sumamente mas intersante y cautivante. As always very much enjoy your videos ...
I’d go there!
Very nice, and close to home!
Wow! What a place!?! You weren’t joking about that place.
In Spain, what we call Victorian was known as the Isabelino era after Queen Isobella the second. I fly into Seville from Scotland next month to walk the Via de la Plata/Sanabrés Camino. Zamora will be a high point of my walk.
Very funny sad video
Thanks for the video.... I love seeing all of the small towns you visit. Will be heading there in June touring around the sizzling Andalucia region for 12 days stopping at all of the more visited areas and then heading up to Galicia to cool off. Very much looking forward to this trip, and fingers crossed hopefully retiring there when our kids are grown. Any food recommendations other than "Casa Pepe"? We will be staying in Conil and then heading east toward Granada on our southern leg. I've recently heard about what they are calling "Jamon del Mar" Tuna that's been cured somehow Jamon style? Very much looking forward to finding this, is this common as far as you know? Thanks again Tom!
Hi. I would have responded to your question earlier, but I've been busy painting the living room. I've never tried the Jamon del Mar, called that because it is cut by hand into very thin slices. It is canned, from what I can tell, and available in many grocery stores. I really don't have any food recommendations except for my favorite, fideua. But that is more of a Valencian dish and a hit or miss if it's good or not. Enjoy your travels in Spain. You're coming at a very nice time of year.

I was in Zamora at the same time last year~ amazing.
It was 31 degrees in December? Is that what they consider winter there?
Was this filmed in December? Looks like summer.
at the start of the video it says September 2023.
Can I ask what it cost for the cinderblock walls per ft or meter ?
The construction is precast, steel reinforced concrete (not cinderblock). The final cost for the house including everything except lights was about 1,000 euros per square meter.
@@tmalloydesign yes, I watched your vids! I assume you built the retaining wall or fencewall yourself?
@@tmalloydesigndo you mean a 1000 euros per m² as per ft² that would be quite pricey? And may I ask which company did you choose for the house it self? Thanks
❤
Cheers. Very useful.
😊😊
Thanks for sharing Tom! Visiting end of Jan <3

Thanks for the compliment! I'm glad you enjoy them.
Very nice once again Tom 🥂
Tom, you built your house properly with the amenities you wanted to include. Does it include a battery/solar system? Airconditioning? 😊 why do I ask? Well... retirement is just a year and a half away. And you know what rain does when you have lots of time and rain... How can something get better when you can have an opera playing in the street? It can't...
The house was built to include a heat pump that provides heating and cooling via the floor. And it works very well. We installed the solar panels a year after building the house. It does not include a battery component. The installer suggested that batteries (and their disposal) are not advanced enough yet. Unfortunately, the architect didn't include a channel for the wiring from the panels to the electrical box thing that is on the wall above our electric panel, so we ran the wires on the outside from the roof, down an outside wall, and into the house through a small opening they created. Since then, I've painted the wiring to blend in with the color of the house. Our contract for the electric allows us to decrease our rate during the night. During the day the rate is higher, but we pull much less (or none at all) from the grid, which allows us to dramatically lower our electric bill. Last month it was 21 euros. We also have ceiling fans in the bedrooms, the kitchen and the living room. The solar panels cost about 1/4 of what we were quoted in the U.S. By the way, it hasn't rained here in two months. I also installed a drip water system in the gardens to reduce water usage. And we've learned that it's important to open the windows at night to take advantage of the cool, dry air. We close them during the day. The opera on the plaza was quite extraordinary. Glad you enjoyed it and good luck with your retirement plans!
Tom, at 07:08 I took a sharp intake of breath, simply because I drive in Europa. However I recently took a trip to the UK and there the rules of the road are basically the same, just right becomes left. Seems the USA has the first come, first served system which, to me, is bonkers. Basically you need to keep your eyes on three corners. Why is that?
Love ‘em!
