Blowing the cobwebs off my Dad's Triton
Apart from that beautiful engine, I can tell from your shirt that you use an angle grinder a lot. lol.
Sweet!
What is water pump please
Hi, it's a Jabsco 23430-1201. They aren't exactly plug and play though, I designed and made the drive for this off the fuel pump drive bevel gear. I understand Tony Redshaws diesels do a similar kit though
@@t1711c thankyou very much, advice much appreciated
All that nice exhaust indoors.
Should open door or window for exhaust nice job on rebuild
NEVER hand crank an engine with your thumbs wrapped behind the handle. If the engine kicks back it could easily injure your hand and wrist...big time!
Thanks for the tip - one I follow on other engines, but on the JP in the rare occasion it fires back it does so fairly softly due to the significant weight of the flywheel (I think). You don't want to get in the way of the handle, but it's not breaking any thumbs!
Interesting - I'll try that with mine
Top job!!!!!😊music
I think u forgot the exhaust
What a jewel!
superb
I would build a boat around that engine, love it
Obviously one of the chain gang - like the Owlet! I would really like driving one of them!
Just lovely. 🙂
First go, Id believe that for sure. the JP listers are amazing engines. I have a JP6
Great charme
love that sound of that diesel engine on this boat
You have a fascinating hybrid JP2 / M there. REally nice job. I have a JP2M with a Blackstone box in my narrowboat. Super engine. Whereabouts do you keep yours ? I'm on the Shroppie.
The Lister I think is one of greatest small engines ever made, I used to run a single cylinder air cooled in a 16 foot clinker fishing boat and I can honesty say that she never let me down and kept on going when engines half her age had given up the ghost , ok it won’t get you anywhere faster than concord but nor will the price tag ( a lot of rebuilt engines are available with quite a modest price tag ). Why do I rate an air cooled lister well There’s no heat exchanger to worry about, no impeller to get jammed up, so no starter motor or alternator to go wrong or the hideous price of replacing them just swing it over and off it thuds ,
💯💯💯💯💯❤️❤️❤️❤️ seems like loads of fun!! Back then ...now these fun must have been faded off ...thanks to these 2020 and 2021!
Absolutely gorgeous love me old listers is that a borg Warner separately mounted direct drive or is it 2 to 1? I'm nosey lol I've same kinda set up that's all
Cheers! It's an old PRM (140) gearbox, 2:1 reduction
Awesome
Oh my ,would I be excited to , one own that ,secondly to accomplish a successful rebuild ,thinking of those engine rebuilding days with my Dad working own VW's air cool engines and the small diesels were always y favorite got to help with a Lister and another ,I think Deutz ......great days
Visual work of art, and music to the ears, well done sir....
Sounds wonderful.
Where do you find overhaul parts for these classic engines? Not just Lister, but the whole lot of brands?
There are suppliers for some more common parts like bearing shells, but you end up making quite a lot of stuff (I had to make new head studs, crankshaft weight studs/nuts and some other random bits). I also managed to find new old stock pistons and liners on ebay.
I am currently rebuilding a jp2m. Very interesting version you have here. I would love to learn more about what you have done to the engine.
Cheers Robert - I could bore you to tears with the details! It's a marine auxiliary, so has the Lloyds stamps and dry sump, but has the industrial crank and no marine gearbox. I rebuilt it last winter because the wet liners failed. I ended up sorting new main and big end bearings for it too. While I was doing the job I installed two Jabsco pumps. One driven off the fuel pump drive gear and the other off a v belt drive I installed off the front of the flywheel. I also fitted an alternator. Lots of challenges, and I had to make quite a lot of stuff, but really enjoyed the project! Whereabouts in the world are you? I'd love to help out with any questions you might have. I have many photos of the rebuild too which may/may not be of use?!
@@t1711c Thanks for replying. You wouldn’t bore me that is for certain. I have watched and watched every video on jp2’s. I wondered why you had two water pumps. I got mine for a reasonable price but it needed more work than i thought. One big end journal needed bringing back up as it was 80 thou under. That was not cheap. It is in for new white metal bearings, small ends, crank end bush and pinion sleeve. £2.5k. Crazy money. I have the blackstone but not sure if i will use it. I have a jp3 with a prm in the boat at the moment. I have new pistons, liners, valves and guides. Need to get all the bits cleaned up which is easier said than done. Would like to see the pics of the build and info on how you mounted the jabso on the pump drive gear. Cheers.
Yeah, I don't have a skin tank so one pump circulates engine coolant and the other pumps canal water through a heat exchanger which cools the engine coolant. You won't regret getting a proper marine unit - they're just right for boats, but also more compact than marinised industrial units. I spent a similar amount on my bottom end and I only had a big end regrind and new big and main bearings. Have messaged you links to my piccies on fb - hopefully they will be useful!
Lovely job you've done. I had a jp2 with Blackstone in my old boat. Boatless for 3 years. Bought another with rndm2. Hope it's as good. Happy New year
Sounds good, just need to bed in the pistons rings to the liners - enjoy getting splattered with oil from the exhaust stack!
Super job sounds great 😎
Thats the 55 year service done...
Nice one Tom
happy? of course he's happy!
Where is the Dane now (Dec 2019)? Richard Parsons who owned it in 1960 wants to know
7 years on and not a single comment? How's the bike these days? Any updates?
Me and my mate at 10:15 on Ducatis. Just looking as going again on 5Jun15. Best I managed was about 1:07. Need to get round Gerrards quicker.
Hi mate, don't suppose you have any footage from the session before lunch?
Sorry mate, I've got a few videos from the day, but don't have a clue which one is which - is there something specific you're after?
yep had a high side out of foggys, wondered if you had any footage off it :)
Daniel Rock Gutted for you mate - afraid I didn't catch the crash on camera, but what I did catch I've posted here Highside at Foggy esses They must've been really worried about you mate - they don't normally bring the ambulance out before everyone's cleared the track! Hope you're on the mend, T
This must be the 675 in fast group..... i was in next garage..... :(
That's me - the dark blue one. Managed to get it up and running again though so not too bad - have been fixing the fairings this week :) What bike were you on?
ouch, that's exactly where I flipped it once too.
Yeah - that corner is evil - if you go even a bit wide it goes off camber. I went in a little too hot as well which didn't exactly help...
wheres the clapper?
let him without sin cast the first stone ;-) Hopefully he'll spot this vid and realise how close he got though! Wierd how it threw me off line - not sure why, but took me a few seconds to regain me composure!
I hope you found him in the paddocks later and gave him a good slap! Race - yes, trackday - worst overtake ever!
If you have a vid of session 7 it would be much appreciated if you could put it on
If you have any more videos put them on
nice one - yeah I just about clocked you as you shot past me on the last session! - looked like a sweet lap. I'll probably never get a sub 1 minute lap round mallory the way it's looking :(
It was a good day I was the lad on the blue and green fzr 400 59.6 lsst session
how can you tell? They look the same to me! What distinguishing features are there?
guess I'll have to rename the vt then!
cheers mate, was a top day, and I've left myself plenty of opportunity for improvement next time!
Cracking vid mate. I was there myself in the other inter group. Love the sound of that triple.
Nice vid due and what a good day it was too! I was there in the inters and about 4 bike behind RichoZX636 when he bailed out at Gerrards. Going back soon, hope to see you then Cheers Chris.
