Speed Pool - One Minute Challenge
A buddy of mine challenged me to run out 15 balls in speed pool in less than one minute. Speed pool is definitely a "change of pace" and it isn't a game I have played much. I do remember watching it on ESPN in the early 2000s though. The one rule I remember, which some people may ask, is as long as the cue ball isn't moving, you can shoot even though object balls may still be moving.

One Pocket Ghost - 54 Balls in 5 Racks

Practicing the one pocket ghost. Break the balls, take ball in hand, then shoot till you miss. I like to do this in sets of 3 or 5 games and see how many total balls I can run. This is a great way to improve your one pocket ball running. There is also a version of the ghost where you don't take ball in hand after the break. That's obviously tougher and the breaking style is a little different.

    Excellent performance, The most impressive part is the speed control on such difficult shots. I started playing pool in the early 1960s. I have watched most of the greatest players from then until now. I believe the players of today play better than at any time in history. Part of it has to do with equipment and conditions, but most of it is higher skill levels.

      got to pocket the 15 balls in less than 55 seconds avg. if youd want to compete with the best at speed pool. No mistakes.Thats around 3.5 seconds each shot and less if you take more time on some.Not many players could do it under 1 minute.

    • @PoolMonsters
      @PoolMonsters Před 7 měsíci

      @@mikescorpio13 making every shot in less than 4 seconds is definitely rough. What I discovered when trying to get under 1 minute is how important the break is. You don't want the cue ball flying around the table, but you would also like to make a few balls. Then when it's time to run the balls, you better pick a good pattern because if you don't, you end up wasting time by moving the cue ball too much. Oh yea, remember not to miss.

    It's hilarious that most of these comments are remembering Tony fondly through rose-colored glasses. In truth, Tony never amounted to much because he was essentially a blowhard deadbeat with no drive. People like him are why pool is seen negatively by the general public. Yes he admittedly made money as a gambler but he mainly did it by beating up on naive, over-confident amateurs or low level pros (which, by the way, means nothing since the terms "good" or "pro" are so loosely used in pool). In spite of that, however, most ppl agree that he could never hope to go toe to toe with world class competition for serious money. Where was he during the Action Report days 15 years ago? Why hasn't he ever streamed big money matches with well-known players? Because he's simply not disciplined or talented enough to win.

    • @PoolMonsters
      @PoolMonsters Před 7 měsíci

      I agree on the "deadbeat with no drive" but I disagree on the whole "never beat world class competition." Tony played his best pool in the late 90s and early 2000s. The peak was probably 03-06 when Stevie Little was still staking him. They had a falling out because of Tony's "shenanigans" and after that Tony's game definitely went downhill. I have yet to see a video online that is representative of how well Tony used to play. Streaming just wasn't that popular back then. Some of the players I remember Tony beating for the cash: Evgeny Stalev Alex Pagulayan (at the US Open) Kid Delicious (3 times) Charlie Williams Steve Knight Eric Durbin (for 80k) Bernardo Chavez (King Kong) Justin Hall George SanSouci (Ginky) Pooky Rasmagalyan Henessee

    Here is an updated, more comprehensive guide to Rotation Philadelphia 8-ball "Roto Phil-8". I'd love to hear input on rules if people have ideas on how the game maybe should be played, or let me know if I should word sections differently! Roto Phil-8 (Rotation Philadelphia 8-ball) Rack: ------ BCA rack, except the 1-ball and 15-ball are placed in the middle behind the 8-ball. Break: ------- Use the cue-ball ball like normal BCA 8-ball in the kitchen to break. If anything drops on the break, open table, the player who breaks continues to shoot. If the 8-ball drops on the break, the 8-ball will be spotted. The player who broke the rack will continue to shoot. - APA Caveat (To be discussed by players before the match starts): It can be considered a win if playing on a coin operated bar/pub table where the 8-ball cannot be spotted after a break because more money has to be inserted into the table. Many rules will have to be adjusted/modified because balls can not be retrieved unless money is put into the table. Push-Out (optional rule): ---------------------------- To be discussed by players before the game starts if a push-out is allowed during play only after the initial break. Continuing Play: ------------------ The game now switches to Philadelphia/Scratch Pool. Every shot after the break must be caromed off the cue-ball. Because it is rotation, incoming shooter after the break, on an open table, can choose to start with the low-set (lows/littles) rotating from the 1-ball up to the 8-ball, or the high-set (highs/bigs) rotating from the 15-ball down to the 8-ball. Sets are are not assigned to anyone until a player makes the first legal ball after the initial break A players object ball is always the next number in rotation towards the 8-ball starting with the 1-ball going up to the 8-ball, or the 15-ball going down to the 8-ball. When the table is open, the shooter can attempt either set. If a player accidentally makes an opponents ball into a pocket for any reason at any point in the game, it stays down. Combos: ---------- Players are allowed to carom-combo but not a direct combo. Example #1: Carom Combo If the 2-ball is the next ball in rotation, the shooter can carom the 2-ball off the cue-ball and send the 2-ball into the 6-ball ball that is hanging near a pocket. The shooter must call the 6-ball as their ball and the pocket it will go into, but the shooter must start with the lowest ball that is in their rotation if they are lows, or the highest ball in their rotation if they are highs. Example 2: Direct Combo (illegal, foul) A Shooter can NOT send the 2-ball ball into the cue-ball and make the cue-ball combo directly into the 6-ball. All shots must be of a carom. If this is done, it is a foul, and the ball is spotted back onto the table. Ball-in-hand to the opponent. Any opponent balls made in the illegal attempt will remain down. Any ball belonging to the shooter will be spotted that was made during the illegal shot. - Caveat: If the cue-ball is caromed off another ball before it makes contact with the 6-ball, this is now a legal shot because it was a carom before the cue-ball made contact with the 6-ball and will no longer be considered a "direct combo" Example 3: Dirty Carom Combo When the table is still open after a break, dirty-carom-combos are allowed. The shooter can carom a low (example: 1-ball) off the cue-ball into a high (example: 13-ball). The shooter has to call the high ball into a called pocket. The shooter will be highs for the rest of the game, rotating from the 15-ball down to the 8-ball and will continue shooting. - A called dirty-carom-combo does not allow a shooter to contiue after sets have already been established to the players. If an intentional dirty-combo is done after sets are designated, the shooters turn is over. Not a foul. No ball-in-hand for incoming player. Just end of turn. Fouls: ------- All shots are to be taken Philadelphia style after the break (rotation object-ball into cue-ball). If a player takes a shot like normal pool (cue-ball into rotation object-ball) it is a foul and ball-in-hand to opponent. All fouls are ball-in-hand with the cue-ball. A player can NEVER touch or move an object ball with their hands at any point for any reason throughout the game. A picked up object-ball gets spotted and the turn goes back to opponent with cue-ball being ball-in-hand. - (For new players, because this is a common mistake when learning, I let them place the object ball back down to the same spot it was picked up from to the best of knowledge and continue with their turn as if nothing happened.) The cue-ball must be the first ball that the shooter's rotation-ball makes contact with. If any other ball is hit before the cue-ball, ball-in-hand for opponent. If a player commits any foul while pocketing their own called-ball, it will come back up and be spotted along with any accidentally pocketed object-balls that belong to the shooter durring their attempt. If a player shoots/hops thier rotation-ball off the table, it gets spotted. Ball-in-hand for opponent with the cue-ball. -Any other balls that are not the rotation-ball that get hopped off the table during a shooters turn will not be considered a foul, but those balls will be spotted, including opponents balls that were hopped off the table. -Hopping an opponents ball off the table is not the same as pocketing their ball, where it would stay down in that case. A rail must be hit after legal first contact, or any ball must be pocketed after legal first contact if no rails are hit. Ball-in-hand to opponent if neither happens. How To Win: -------------- First player to make the 8-ball wins. A player can NOT win early like in normal rotaion games. 8-ball must be the last ball in a players set, like in BCA Pool. Like BCA Pool, scratching on the 8-ball is not a loss unless both cue-ball and 8-ball go down in the same attempt.
