This is a student movie. I filmed it in Super 8 mm in 1988 at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. Basically, it's an unofficial Talking Heads music video. To avoid copyright problems, it is presented here without the music. But you should watch it with the music.
So, get ready to play the Talking Heads song "Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On)" on your streaming device, turntable, CD player, or whatever. It's the first track on the album "Remain in Light." After the introductory titles at the beginning of the video, start playing the song when you see the title "Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On)" appear on the screen.
Some of the images are close-ups of faces appearing on a television screen in 1988. In my opinion, it's fair use to appropriate those pictures, but in any case, I do not know what TV series or movies those were. You may recognize a few of the faces, including Marlo Thomas and Ray Milland.
Thanks to Chicago Film Archives for digitizing my Super 8 mm film in 2023. I made a few slight tweaks in the digitized version, adjusting the speed for a closer match with the song, cleaning up a bit of the grain in the image, and increasing the color saturation.
I don't know what it all means.
